The Omega Princess and Her Two Leashes - Chapter 95
Chapter 95
This back alley was where alphas came, one after another, to sate their starved desires with a single omega. The alley itself was a massive holding pen, a prison for captured omegas. R*pe and gang r*pe were commonplace here. Human trafficking thrived without consequence, and brothels flourished. It was a cruel and horrific darkness existing just behind the peaceful, warm sunlight. The alphas fed on the omegas’ lifeblood here, then went back out to their world, laughing and chatting amongst themselves.
“Ah, I see. They’re practically possessions, but not legally so, meaning there’s no protected ownership. They’re essentially public commodities. Hmm, a loophole in the law.”
Leybid nodded, having understood the situation without Arlenrose’s explanation. He had, after all, been educated as the next emperor. Such understanding was only natural. “Then why not just legally define omegas as property?”
“That would be the easiest and fastest solution.” Arlenrose grimaced, as if disgusted, but agreed. He was right. The quickest way to end this atrocity was to legally classify omegas as possessions.
Guaranteeing and protecting an alpha’s ownership of an omega would improve the situation. However, that would officially reduce omegas to less than human, mere objects. Someone might argue that the reality was already thus, but legal codification was a different matter entirely. Once the law branded a being as subhuman, there would be no turning back. Should they brand them to protect them? Or should they allow this current horror to continue? Somewhere, even now, alphas were heatedly debating this very issue. Criticism of the royals and nobles, who did nothing but neglect the situation instead of creating laws or finding solutions, was also rampant.
But the choice itself was inherently flawed. No alpha had even considered the possibility of recognizing and protecting omegas as equals. Arlenrose didn’t bother explaining this, assuming the alpha beside her shared the same mindset. However, Leybid seemed to realize this on his own and shook his head. “No, that’s not right. Regardless of the circumstances, legally defining a fellow human being as property… that’s absurd.”
Arlenrose looked at him, surprised. But his next words made her frown again. “Hmm… but wouldn’t this all be resolved if the Empire just unified the continent?”
“The Luversiana Empire?”
“Yes. Our empire treats omegas much better. If the empire ruled this land, the omegas’ plight would naturally improve, wouldn’t it?” The Luversiana Empire, unlike the Kingdom of Fleurose, had already improved omega rights. Leybid, utterly convinced of this, spoke casually, but Arlenrose stared at him for a moment, then abruptly turned away, as if she felt it wasn’t even worth responding.
“Why? Is it patriotism? This country treats you like this just because you’re an omega princess. What’s so precious about it?” Leybid pressed, following close behind her. Instead of answering, Arlenrose bit her lip. “Let’s stop the idle chatter.”
“But…” Leybid trailed off, realizing the commotion erupting around them.
“Demons!”
“The revolutionary army is here!”
“It’s a terrorist attack!” The cries they’d heard earlier in the town square were echoing again. They were on their way to the scene of the attack. Leybid, recalling the fact he’d momentarily forgotten, looked up in the direction of the noise. A large mansion was ablaze. Around it, people were shouting, trying to extinguish the flames, while others clashed with weapons drawn.
“That’s…?”
“The mansion of the wealthy Graham.”
“Wealthy?”
“Yes. He’s captured and imprisoned hundreds of omegas, keeping them all to himself.” The flames reflected in Arlenrose’s violet eyes as she stared at the scene.
***
The wealthy Graham was a greedy man. He owned dozens of trading companies, amassing more wealth than any commoner, and he had imprisoned more omegas in his mansion than anyone else. He’d hoarded so many that the number of omegas outside his walls had dwindled drastically. Alphas suffered, unable to properly manage their heats, and in the back alleys of the town, single omegas endured the hardship of serving multiple alphas.
