The Omega Princess and Her Two Leashes - Chapter 94
Chapter 94
“Your Highness, physical violence isn’t the only way to crush someone. I was crushed, just like them.”
Leybid’s expression shifted at the unexpected words. “I… crushed you?”
“Yes.”
“But… isn’t ‘crushed’ a bit extreme…?”
“Ha!” Arlenrose cut him off with a scoff, glaring at him. “Your Highness, I’m the one who experienced it. What’s the point of you, the perpetrator, arguing otherwise? Are you trying to control my feelings now, after already taking control of my body?”
“No… I…” Leybid was speechless, stunned. Arlenrose held his gaze for a moment, then turned away with a silent sneer. The intensity of her contempt was suffocating. A sudden wave of turmoil churned within him. ‘…Did I make a mistake?’ The thought struck him unexpectedly.
‘Mistake’ was a foreign concept to Leybid. He never reflected on his actions with regret or remorse, so the notion of recognizing a mistake was alien. Yet, there was no other word to describe this feeling—the feeling of having made a terrible, irreversible error.
He’d assumed Arlenrose was unaffected because she acted unaffected. He thought her defiance meant he could continue his behavior. But… what if he was wrong? The thought sent a chill down his spine, a cold sweat breaking out across his skin. Yet, he couldn’t understand why he felt this way. Why did he care so much about her feelings? She was just a plaything, a temporary amusement. Why should he care what she thought of him…?
“Your Highness, why are you just standing there? Come on. We don’t have much time.” Arlenrose, walking ahead, glanced back impatiently.
“Oh, right. Coming.” Leybid pushed aside his complicated thoughts and hurried after her. He felt slightly better. He’d been anxious that she wouldn’t speak to him again, but she had, and that somehow felt reassuring. As they walked, the abused omegas remained scattered around them. The horrific sight made Leybid shudder, no matter how many times he saw it.
“Why is the kingdom like this? I knew they treated omegas like possessions, but this is…”
Arlenrose’s voice was frigid. “It’s the opposite. It’s because they aren’t considered possessions.”
“Not possessions? But everything I’ve seen…”
“Legally speaking.”
“Legally…?”
“Yes. Current kingdom law doesn’t define omegas as property.”
Kingdom law didn’t recognize omegas as possessions. It seemed logical, as omegas were people. But the problem was the lack of protection. Not legally property, yet practically unprotected, they were free game, to be claimed and stolen without legal consequence. In that sense, omegas held by royalty or nobles were better off. They adhered to a certain decorum, respecting legal boundaries and refraining from stealing each other’s omegas.
But commoners were different. Here, omegas were prey for the strongest. Even bonded omegas could be taken by force, with no legal recourse for retrieval, as they weren’t considered property and therefore had no ownership attached to them. An omega could be taken, and that taken omega could be taken again. The only way to reclaim a lost omega was through force or by taking another from someone else. Thus, the strong held multiple omegas, while the weak had none. Alphas deprived of omegas, consumed by frustration, roamed with desperate eyes, searching.
