The Omega Princess and Her Two Leashes - Chapter 88
Chapter 88
“Hmph.” Leybid defiantly devoured the rest of the crepe, but the taste remained revolting. It made him nauseous. While Arlenrose was briefly distracted, talking to Camin, he discreetly discarded the remaining portion. When she turned back to him and saw his empty hand, her eyes widened.
“Oh, you finished it?”
“Of course. Something like this is easy for me.” Arlenrose chuckled at Leybid’s exaggerated pride.
“Yes, well done.” It was a perfunctory compliment, but it inexplicably pleased Leybid. His decision had been right after all. It had been difficult, but ultimately rewarding.
“By the way, aren’t you just as much a greenhouse flower as I am?”
“Me?” Arlenrose tilted her head, looking amused. A silent laugh escaped her lips. “Not at all. I spent two years living outside the castle walls.”
Leybid’s eyes widened at this unexpected revelation.
“I’ve never heard that before.”
“Of course not. The kingdom would hardly announce that their princess ran away. For two years, they covered it up by saying I was ill and needed rest. They were very thorough.”
“You ran away? For two whole years?” Leybid was stunned. Even he, who considered himself to have lived a somewhat rebellious life, had never contemplated such a drastic act.
“So, where were you all that time?”
“Oh, I just wandered around here and there.” Arlenrose’s voice trailed off, a cryptic smile playing on her lips. “So, I can eat food far worse than this and sleep on cobblestones. Completely different from a greenhouse prince like you.”
The comment was strangely irritating. However, Leybid was still reeling from the revelation and could only stare at her, speechless. The princess of Fleurose had spent two years wandering the world, sleeping practically on the streets. Even hearing it from her own lips, he found it hard to believe. Such a past seemed impossible for someone with her ethereal, pristine, and elegant appearance.
“Hmm… Fleurose must have better security than I thought. An omega with your looks managed to wander around without any problems.”
Such a thing would be unthinkable in the Empire. An omega as beautiful as Arlenrose would be kidnapped, sold into slavery, or forced into prostitution the moment she stepped outside unattended.
Arlenrose gave him a look that suggested he was utterly clueless. “Fleurose having good security? Absolutely not.”
“But… as you can see, the streets are so peaceful, everyone seems safe…”
“Oh, is that how it seems?” Arlenrose laughed, a sharp edge to the sound that made Leybid fall silent. Her laughter subsided, and she pointed a finger ahead.
“Look.” Her finger indicated a picturesque scene: charming houses, people strolling through the streets, laughing and chatting without a hint of conflict. With a sardonic twist of her lips, she asked, “Do you see a single omega among them?”
Leybid’s breath hitched as he realized the source of his unease. Not a single omega in sight. Now that Arlenrose had pointed it out, it was glaringly obvious. Only alphas were out and about. It was as if omegas had been completely erased from this world.
“Then where are all the omegas?”
Arlenrose’s laughter was self-deprecating.
“Not in the sunlit places like this, but in the shadows. In back alleys and brothels. The luckier ones might be inside someone’s house, but they’re still treated like slaves or possessions. It’s all the same.”
Leybid looked around, frowning in disbelief.
“But even so, how can there not be a single omega? Doesn’t anyone go outside?”
“It’s not that they don’t go out, it’s that they can’t. They’d be taken the moment they stepped outside.”
Arlenrose glanced at Camin and fell silent, indicating she didn’t want to continue this conversation in his presence. Camin believed she was an alpha. In Fleurose, an alpha wouldn’t be knowledgeable about, nor sympathetic to, the plight of omegas. It was a topic best avoided around him.
‘Hmph, he doesn’t even know she’s an omega.’
Leybid scoffed internally, feeling a strange sense of superiority. He knew Arlenrose’s secret, and Camin didn’t. It gave him an odd sense of satisfaction.
