Daniel handed Radis a bound notebook.
“The final story is recorded here.”
Unlike Alexis’ writings, the final story was written in neat, orderly script. Radis opened it.

The monsters’ last resistance was fierce.
However, the Stewards succeeded in sealing the rift in the black forest at the center of the continent.
The gate to the underworld, which had gaped open beneath the roots of the Underworld Tree, began to close.
Verad, covered in blood after holding off the monsters, shouted,
“Alexis, destroy the Underworld Tree!”
Alexis, also drenched in blood, stood at the edge of the rift.
Before the gate to the underworld closed completely, she had to destroy the Underworld Tree and send the remaining monsters back to the underworld with it.
That was the only way to seal it perfectly.
At that moment, someone called her name.
“Alexis…!”
She turned around. The one who had called her was Dantes.
His gaze, filled with a certain resolve, met hers as he shook his head.
Seeing him, Alexis ultimately lowered the hand gripping her sword.
Luu remained silent, waiting.
He was a being incapable of doubting that a Steward would ever refuse the duty given to them by the gods.
Only Verad realized what was happening.
He shouted with wide eyes,
“Alexis, no!”
The rift vanished. But the Underworld Tree remained, standing tall.
Luu slowly raised his head and looked at her.
“Alexis, why did you do that?”
She struggled to avoid looking in Dantes’s direction.
“Luu, you won’t understand, but this is what humanity needs.”
“Alexis, are you rejecting the duty the gods bestowed upon you as a Steward?”
“Duty, duty! I’m so tired of it!”
She screamed in an outburst.
“What have the gods ever done for me? This cursed power? If they hadn’t given it to me, I could have lived a normal life! That’s what I really wanted!”
A single tear fell from Luu’s eyes as he looked at her.
“Alexis, not only have you succumbed to temptation and forsaken your duty, but you have also denied the love of the gods. You called their gift a curse, so now it will truly become one.”
Her fiery red hair darkened to black and began to coil around her body.
She struggled to escape, but the hair transformed into thorny vines and constricted her.
“Dantes!”
Furious, Verad rushed at Dantes and knocked him down.
“You…! What have you done?”
“Aagh! Get off of me!”
“She wouldn’t have made such a decision on her own. It was you! You used her love for you…!”
“The decision was hers!” Dantes gasped.
As they fought, the curse relentlessly consumed her.
Her skin tore open, and bright red blood poured out.
Unable to endure the unbearable pain, she screamed and dropped her sword.
She heard Pyrrh calling to her from where he had fallen.
[ Alexis! Alexis! ]
Luu spoke.
“It’s unfortunate, but this curse is of her own making. The only one who can break it is herself.”
He turned to Verad.
“Neither a human nor even I, the incarnation of a god, can end her life. Verad, only you can free her from the pain of her flesh.”
“What will happen to her soul if she’s freed from her physical suffering?”
“If she dies under the curse, her soul will be dragged to the underworld, where it will suffer eternal torment.”
After a long, agonizing silence, Verad approached her slowly, holding his shield, Kairos.
He knelt before her as the thorny vines tightened around her face, leaving her unable to speak.
Her dark eyes looked up at him, pleading.
‘It hurts too much. Please, end it. I want it all to be over now.’
Her eyes spoke those words. Verad’s golden eyes welled with tears.
Ignoring the thorns cutting into his hands, he gently caressed her cheek.
Verad whispered,
“Alexis, I love you. I always will.”
He summoned all his mana and created an immense spell. With it, he gently closed her eyes.
Her time stopped then and there.
Watching, Luu spoke.
“Pyrrh, are you watching?”
[ Yes, Luu…! ]
“Look closely. Humans have will. While we move according to Providence, their will has the power to change even the flow of fate.”
A sad but admiring smile appeared on Luu’s face.
“That is what gives them a dignity that surpasses both the immortal spirits and the infinitely powerful demons.”
Connected to Alexis, Pyrrh lost its light and followed her into a deep slumber.
The sword would likely wait for a long time before someone came to awaken it again.
