Chapter 275

At the voice filled with dismay, David blinked in confusion.
Radis slowly placed her hand on David’s shoulder and whispered in a slightly lowered voice.
“Why did it turn out this way? Have you ever thought about that? Do you have any regrets? Have you ever wondered if things would have been different if you had known then what you know now?”
David, who had been blinking repeatedly, suddenly grabbed her arm with both hands.
“What are you talking about? More importantly, can you stop these people? I never wanted to come to this wretched place in the first place!”
At David’s words, the subjugation squad members scowled. However, David, perhaps emboldened by Radis’ presence, began to pour out his grievances like a waterfall.
“Why should I have to train to catch those filthy monsters? The Tilrod family is a family of knights, but this isn’t even a knight order, it’s a mere subjugation squad! I don’t want to do something as disgusting as subjugating monsters! What did I ever do wrong to deserve this suffering?”
As if something that had been pent up inside him had finally burst, David began to complain about his situation with spit flying from his mouth.
“When you think about it, it’s all your fault! Because of you, my admission to the Imperial Academy was canceled, and everything started to fall apart from there!”
David now screamed at the top of his lungs.
“You’re the one who got me stuck here in the first place! You’re the one who brought that con artist, Felix Roschilde, into our house! Mom was stupid for falling for his tricks, but the reason I ended up like this is all because of you!”
Radis, who had been quietly watching David, finally spoke.
“I do have regrets.”
“Of course you do!”
“My regret is that I let someone as rotten as you be my brother, and allowed our mother to coddle you.”
“W-What?”
“I should have beaten you half to death a few times to make you act like a decent human being.”
“What? Who’s going to beat who half to death? Are you out of your mind?”
Radis shook her head.
“Then and now, you still haven’t learned anything and only know how to blame others.”
“It’s your fault!”
With her eyes closed, she recalled the David from her previous life.
David had ruled over the Tilrod family like a tyrant until the very end. He idled around as if he were royalty, doing nothing, yet he always blamed Radis for his need to stay hidden, as though it were her fault.
In her past life, she had actually believed it was true. But now, she knew better.
Radis opened her eyes and spoke again.
“Fine, keep blaming me for everything and live your life that way.”
“What? Hey!”
Radis looked down at David with cold eyes.
“If you have eyes, you should be able to see the difference between us now. It’s not like when we were forced to live under the same roof as siblings. Once you step out from under Mother’s apron, you really are nothing.”
Looking down at David, who stood there with his mouth hanging open, Radis continued slowly.
“No matter how much you cry and blame me from the depths of your despair, I can just walk away. Your voice can’t reach me anymore.”
Her voice was so cold that even she was surprised.
“You’re kneeling and begging me for help, but I have absolutely no reason to help you. If I hadn’t run into you today, I probably wouldn’t have thought about you even once for the rest of my life. That’s how insignificant you are to me.”
“What? Radis! No, Sister…!”
Radis looked at David with a gaze full of pity, as if she were looking at a complete stranger in a miserable situation, then stood up.
“David, if you don’t want to be lying there on the ground, get up on your own two feet. Don’t expect someone else to take responsibility for your life. And before blaming others, take a good look at yourself.”
She left him with those words and turned away coldly.
David, stammering, tried to grab her.
“Hey! Radis! W-Wait…!”
One of the subjugation squad members stepped in front of him, cracking his knuckles loudly.
“So you never had any intention of being here in the first place, huh?”
The portly man spoke in a menacing tone.
“I’ve seen plenty of rotten new recruits, but I’ve never met one as hopeless as you. You can’t even endure basic training, yet you dream of the Imperial Academy? A knight? What’s inside that head of yours? Should I crack it open to see?”
The man struck David on the head with his sword’s sheath.
David let out a blood-curdling scream.
“Ahhh! No, please don’t! Mom! Save me!”
