Chapter 170

“I heard all about it from Ardon. Radis, you’re truly amazing.”
Radis’s face turned red as she was slicing the lamb.
“A-Amazing, no way…”
“No, Radis! It’s the first time I could understand why Sir Sheldon stayed at House Tilrod. It’s true that a few gifted teens awaken their abilities at such a young age, but only one out of a hundred of those gifted people can use their abilities as freely as you!”
Radis’s face turned as red as the beet that’s right next to her lamb.
“No, but I…”
Radis trailed off before she could say, ‘I’m not a teenager.’
She couldn’t even cut the deliciously ripe lamb before her because the grip on her knight loosened.
Looking at her with such passion in his gaze, Yves spoke in a clear voice.
“Radis, you’re a prodigy.”
In the end, Radis could do nothing but lower her head, wrapping both hands over her steaming face.
Looking at her like that, Yves Russell smiled with satisfaction.
‘Adorable…! Should I bestow upon you the peerage of a knight? Should I award you a territory?’
But one second later, his face hardened.
‘Territory… No way! If I give you one, you’re going to leave this place, aren’t you! No territory for you!’
And suddenly, he realized that Robert was staring at him.
As though he was some terribly suspicious person.
Yves cleared his throat and spoke to Robert.
“Ahh, yes, our dear guest from House Roderick.”
Robert’s brows furrowed as he frowned slightly.
“…Please feel free to call me Robert.”
“Of course. I heard about your skills from Ardon as well…”
Just before this, he’d been complimenting Radis on her skills as though lathering gold paint upon her. But now that it’s Robert’s turn…
“Y-You’re…”
Yves’s mood plummeted.
He couldn’t bear to praise the son of his enemy.
Yves’ lips and chin trembled while he forcibly kept his smile intact.
“You’re also gr… greeaa…”
As Robert realized what Yves was about to say, his mood also soured.
His impression of Yves Russell in the previous life wasn’t very good, and that didn’t change at all in this life as well.
No, if he were to be honest, the more he interacted with the man, the more he disliked him.
Robert would rather not hear any praises of being a genius or a great man from Yves Russell.
If he heard such a thing, he might just feel so terrible that he wouldn’t be able to hold a sword for the time being.
Robert spoke quickly.
“Please take back your compliment. I still have a long way to go. I don’t deserve them.”
“Um, then, continue your diligence.”
“Thank you.”
While Robert and Yves let out a sigh of relief, Radis’s complexion went back to normal as well and she raised her head.
Fanning one hand over her face to ward off any lingering heat on her cheeks, she spoke.
“Anyway, there’s something I’d like to tell you, Marquis.”
“What is it?”
“You asked me before what I’d like to do, right?”
“Uhh, I guess? Yeah.”
Yves watched as Radis took in a breath nervously.
The loveliest pair of black eyes looked straight at him.
Unknowingly, he had turned his body so that he was facing her squarely, leaning forward towards her as well.
Robert’s existence had long since been forgotten.
“I’m going to form a mercenary guild.”
“Okay.”
Yves nodded automatically with a soft smile upon his lips, however, he soon came back to his senses and asked back.
“What? A mercenary guild?”
“Yes.”
“Why? This is so sudden, Radis. You, forming a mercenary guild? If you want to be a knight, I can arrange a suitable position for you.”
But Radis replied calmly.
“Ever since you told me about the White Dragon Knights last time, I’ve been thinking about it. I don’t want to be a member of a chivalric order like the White Dragon Knights. If I belong to a chivalric like that, I’ll have to fight against people, not monsters.”
“…T-That’s right.”
Radis shook her head.
“Unless it’s absolutely necessary, I don’t want to do that.”
“Wait, Radis. Are you saying that you want to become a mercenary, not a knight? Why would you choose that? You…!”
Yves’ voice gradually raised in volume, and he stopped himself short of yelling these words.
‘You can just stay with me! Don’t do anything dangerous! Just, forever, stay by my side!’
But Yves Russell couldn’t find it in him to say such a thing. He shut himself up.
This isn’t what Radis wants.
It’s what he wants.
Yves Russell covered both his nose and mouth, rubbing his lips slightly.
As though trying to wipe off any trace of the words he had nearly uttered.
After a while, Yves Russell spoke again.
“…You’re serious about this? Is this really what you want?”
Radis nodded, her eyes lighting up.
“I’m not saying that I’ll start right now. I’ll be preparing gradually.”
Yves then turned to Robert.
“By any chance, you didn’t put this idea in her head, did you?”
“Marquis, Cap… I mean, Robert is my friend. But this idea is entirely my own, and Robert offered to help me.”
Even as she said this, she need not say anything more for Yves to know.
He rubbed his eyes and groaned.
