Chapter 168

Radis somehow felt proud of the bright smile that Robert usually didn’t show.
‘You’re so cool, our Captain. No matter where he goes, our Captain will always shine…!’
Not missing this opening, Robert swung his sword.
The huge sound of wind being torn split through the air, and the pressure comparable to that of a mountain suddenly fell before Radis.
The smile on Radis’s lips disappeared in an instant as she saw Robert’s attack, and her complexion changed completely.
‘T-This guy…? Does he want to break everything in here?’
Radis gave up on trying to counter his attack.
If she’d do that, she’d only flatten herself, let alone bake Robert to a crisp.
She quickly retreated, holding up her sword.
Kwaaang!
Where Radis landed, the floor had given in as though it had crumbled.
“Huu…!”
She raised her sword to block Robert’s onslaught, but now her entire body ached. Robert’s sword packed quite a punch because of his wind-attribute mana.
And apart from that, her cheek started stinging. She must have gotten a wound even though his sword didn’t even graze her.
Radis cried out.
“Robert, you’re taking this too seriously!”
While pulling back his sword, Robert answered back.
“Since you keep aiming for my head, you must be thinking of burning off my eyebrows again, huh?”
Unable to say anything to that, Radis closed her mouth.
It happened only once in the previous life.
For some reason or another, there was a time when Robert always looked at Radis with such agonized and depressed eyes.
Worried that the morale of the subjugation squad would fall because of this, Radis singed off the edges of Robert’s eyebrows. She did this while pretending to be focused on their sparring session.
After that, Robert’s depressed atmosphere kind of disappeared, so she thought that it’s a good thing she did it. However, Robert was apparently holding a grudge.
“Robert… You still remember that after all this time?”
“I might’ve fallen for it once, but it’ll never happen again.”
Now that he’s caught on what she was planning to do, Robert would henceforth do his best to keep his eyebrows intact.
Since this was the case, she’d better give up on giving his eyebrows a little fiery trim.
Now, all she would be focusing on was a head-on barrage of attacks.
Running towards Robert, Radis yelled.
“I’m not thinking of doing that though!”
Radis’s sword clashed against Robert’s over and over again, as if with the intention to break his.
Kwang, kwang, kkwang!
The clashing of their swords sounded like lightning strikes shooting down again and again, while her flames caught in the sharp wind started scattering like raindrops.
“Aaack!”
The knights of the marquisate were all mesmerized by this battle between two mage knights, but they all snapped out of it once the flames began to fall right in front of their faces. They scrambled frantically away.
Meanwhile, Robert’s brows became furrowed as he received such a flurry of attacks.
Robert’s wind-attribute and Radis’s fire-attribute were complementary to each other.
Of course, one’s mana attribute cannot wholly determine victory or defeat, but it was a different story when the skills of both competitors’ skills were quite similar.
Right now, on the outside, it might seem like Robert was easily blocking Radis’s attacks, but he was actually feeling the pressure of the growing flames.
Gripping his gradually heating sword, almost too hot to hold, he looked up to see Radis smiling.
‘This cheeky rascal…!’
It was a fierce battle, but Robert nearly smiled as well.
Because Radis was quite blatantly looking at his eyebrows with blazing eyes.
In truth, he didn’t care whether he’d be able to keep his eyebrows or not.
And for a moment he thought that he might be able to live without eyebrows for the rest of his life if Radis really wanted to singe them off.
However, he had to stay at the Russell Marquisate for a little while.
It would be quite difficult to stay in this place without any eyebrows, especially when everyone was already feeling uncomfortable around him in the first place.
Making up his mind, Robert tightly gripped the greatsword in his hand. And, he infused all the mana he could muster.
Radis realized what he was doing right before his sword started to give off a blindingly radiant light.
While drawing out a long line, the raging gust immediately extinguished the walls of fire.
KWANG!
And the next moment, Radis found herself sitting on the floor, her sword some distance away.
She looked up at Robert, her eyes wide open.
‘What was that?’
But now, the sword that’s shining with a brilliant blue light was aimed at her.
Under the undeniable pressure, Radis raised her hands and spoke.
“I… lost…?”
Raising herself to her feet, Radis stepped closer to Robert and whispered.
“Captain… what was that just now?”
And Robert whispered back.
“I learned it when I fought the dragon.”
Hoh. Radis let out a brief expression of her amazement.
She did think that she had taken one step forward with her skills ever since she returned to the past. But Robert, in the meantime, seemed to have taken five steps ahead of her.
While patting off the dust on her clothes, Radis heard one of the knights in the drill hall starting to applaud.
She felt her face immediately growing hot as she looked to where the applause was coming from.
However, the clapping began to start all around her as well.
“Mage knights…!”
“What the hell was that just now?!”
“That was seriously amazing!”
Radis’s face became bright red at once.
Avoiding the knights’ admiring gazes, she looked sideways towards the platform.
But Ardon, the knight captain of the marquisate’s chivalric order, was also clapping.
