Savage Forest - Chapter 146.1
When Enya arrived at her original destination after parting with Jahan, Piache’s class was in full swing.
“It’s Enya!”
“Wow…!”
A few children looked up and greeted her enthusiastically.
Recently, the rebuilding of Nervana Forest had progressed so much that Enya had fewer tasks to do. Just then, Piache had suggested that Enya assist in the class, which wouldn’t require much physical effort, and Enya gladly accepted.
In fact, Piache’s offer was very welcome. Tarhan seemed relieved as well. Even without Tarhan’s reaction, the other Nervana people had started to notice Enya’s pregnant belly, and whenever she attempted any strenuous task, they would stop her immediately.
The children crowded around her, eager to claim the spot next to her.
“You little rascals! Can’t you stay quiet?”
Piache quickly quieted the children.
However, Enya couldn’t help but smile as the children clung to her hands and showered her with affection.
Small hands pulled at her arms, and every time they met her gaze, her lips curled into a smile of happiness.
“Enya, what words are we learning today?”
“Pinyo hit me!”
“Hey, stop pushing!”
Enya gently separated the children who were pushing each other as they tried to get closer to her.
“Be careful, you guys.”
At that moment, a loud voice drowned out the chattering of the children.
“Ugh, these little rascals!”
It was Ihita. She had been helping Piache since their time in Aquilea and was also assisting with the writing lessons.
Ihita seemed to be struggling with controlling the kids, as she approached Enya and grumbled.
“I really don’t know what to do with these kids. Ugh! This is why I’m scared of having kids myself.”
Enya couldn’t help but laugh at Ihita’s words. While the children were indeed adorable and lovable now, Enya could understand that dealing with their chaos every day would be quite overwhelming.
“I came to switch with you. Reyhald came back for a bit, I think. His group probably finished early today.”
“Oh, really?”
When Enya mentioned this, Ihita’s face brightened immediately.
Enya encouraged her.
“Hurry up and go. It looks like he’s waiting for you.”
“Should, should I?”
Ihita grinned mischievously and glanced at Piache. Piache didn’t even look up, simply waving her hand dismissively.
With Piache’s permission, Ihita rushed out without looking back.
“Honestly, I can’t stand the sight of it.”
Piache mumbled as she wrote on the large stone slab used as a chalkboard, her fingers covered in white powder.
Despite her complaints, Piache always took excellent care of Ihita and her entire family, who had moved to Nervana Forest. While Enya was like a daughter to Piache, Ihita was more like a granddaughter.
As Piache wrote, she seemed to tire and slumped into her chair.
“I’ll do it.”
Enya hurried over and took the small jar of white powder from Piache’s palm.
“Hmm. Are you sure?”
Piache chuckled as she sat back, patting her shoulders.
Enya gathered all the children together.
The children, realizing that the lesson was about to begin, excitedly shouted and gathered around Enya and Piache.
Unlike Piache, Enya didn’t smear the powder on her fingers. Instead, she placed her palm on the jar and furrowed her brow while focusing intently.
The white powder, made from crushed and dried plants of Nervana, reacted immediately to Enya’s power.
Soon, the powder from the jar began to swirl out and dance freely on her palm.
“Wow!”
The children’s eyes sparkled as they saw the spectacle. Some of the children pushed their friends aside to get a closer look at what Enya was doing.
“Don’t push.”
Enya quickly closed her palm, causing the powder to fall to the ground. When she sternly declared, the children, who had been pushing to claim a spot, immediately quieted down and sat down neatly and quietly together.
Enya watched the scene with satisfaction before placing her hand on the ground where the powder had fallen.
The powder quickly formed letters on the rock’s surface.
“Alright, let’s begin.”
At Enya’s cue, the voices of the children reading the letters out loud echoed through the forest.
When the break came, Piache approached Enya and handed her something wrapped in dry leaves.
“You should eat this every now and then. It’s no good if a pregnant woman doesn’t eat.”
Enya smiled, accepting it, and bit into the treat. It had a nutty taste.
“You’re really good at handling the children.”
Piache muttered as she sat next to Enya.
The children were running around happily chasing after the moving vine that Enya had made. Their shouts of excitement, trying to catch the escaping vine, had not stopped since earlier.
Piache laughed at the cute sight and then turned to Enya, suddenly saying,
“When the baby is born, you’ll raise it well.”
Piache’s gaze turned to Enya’s protruding belly.
Enya, caught off guard by the compliment, turned her face slightly, trying to hide her blushing cheeks by looking elsewhere.
Suddenly, memories from Aquilea came to mind. Back then, they had had similar conversations, but at that time, the words were more along the lines of, ‘The baby will be born healthy,’ instead of ‘raising it well.’
Back then, they hadn’t even dared to imagine the possibility of the baby being born. The chances of the baby not being born safely had been much higher.
But now, it is different. The baby was healthier than ever, and Enya was just waiting for the final month.
“Have you decided on a name for the baby?”
Piache asked.
