Chapter 237

“Heh…”
Ciel, reminded of that day, tried to suppress his laughter before continuing.
“He got slapped with gold coins. Pfft, she threw a pouch full of coins so precisely at his face.”
“Haha! To think Lady Irene has such courage. Did Count Ashur just let it be?”
“Of course he threw a fit, but verbally, he lost to my Rin.”
“What did she say?”
Jace found himself getting increasingly absorbed in the story. The gloominess he felt a moment ago due to the saintess was gone.
“She said that neither by rank nor by deeds does he deserve to treat her as such.”
“Ah…”
“And she added that if he wanted to be treated like an elder, he should act like a proper uncle to me and my brother.”
Jace couldn’t take his eyes off Ciel, who wore a proud and reassured expression. Would he make such a face if he had his own Guide? Or was it simply the look of a man in love?
As Jace pondered seriously, a brick fell near them. However, before it could reach the crown prince, Ciel used his wind ability to return it to its place.
“I, I’m so sorry!”
A worker, pale as death, knelt down. Jace waved it off as nothing, and Ciel spoke up.
“It’s alright to call me for such matters.”
Like he had done for the workers in Clarsent, Ciel used his wind ability to lift the heavy bricks. He directed them where needed and commanded.
“Your task is to quickly repair the collapsed houses. Don’t worry about the minor details and focus on your main job.”
“Yes, understood!”
The workers, initially intimidated by the noble, began to work diligently. Watching them, Ciel noted the setting sun and said to Jace,
“Well, Your Highness. I’ll leave this area to you.”
“…Huh? Where are you going?”
Jace, lost in thought, responded belatedly. However, Ciel was already flying off into the distance, smiling happily at the thought of Irene receiving her new dress.
He felt ecstatic just thinking about the couple outfit they would wear at tomorrow’s celebration, although he had yet to tell her they were matching.
“I’ll have to surprise her more in the future.”
Ciel, though feeling a bit foolish, wore the happiest smile in the world as he headed towards the ducal residence.

“My daughter, you’re so beautiful. You were pretty even with the gloves, but I like seeing you even more without them.”
As preparations for the celebration were underway, my already prepared mother came with praises. She still looked at the unscarred back of my hand as if it was a miraculous treasure.
A small laugh escaped me, causing my body to shake, and a maid cautioned,
“Ah, Milady. Please, just a moment…”
“Oh, sorry.”
The dress I had chosen this time was a sleeveless empire style dress, a design not popular in the country but something I had always wanted to try. I boldly decided to go for it.
The color was a deep blue, with tiny diamonds embedded from the chest upwards, sparkling like stars in the night sky. Since the dress was of a simple style, the maid put a lot of effort into my hair.
She swept it to one side and adorned it with an obsidian accessory. Not just one but several small pins were inserted, harmonizing with the deep blue dress.
“Is this peridot accessory sent by His Highness the Archduke?”
“Yes, Mom.”
Mom said, peering into the large wooden box placed on the table. Ciel had sent about twenty pieces of jewelry with gems matching the color of my eyes.
The box contained necklaces, earrings, rings, and bracelets of various designs. I chose the accessory with the simplest design among them.
In the end, I wore a necklace with a large peridot pendant that’s closely set with transparent diamonds, and its matching pair of earrings. On my wrist, I wore a ribbon made of chiffon, similar to the dress’s material, with a small peridot gem dangling from it.
“My daughter, you’re so beautiful. Probably the most beautiful in the empire?”
“Do you think so only because I’m my mom’s daughter?”
I said, getting up from the chair. Then, from the other side, a response came.
“I see it that way too.”
Turning quickly at the sound of Ciel’s voice, I saw him leaning against the door, smiling at me.
