Chapter 176

I was momentarily speechless.
Do I miss him…?
It wasn’t easy to answer simply. I had mixed feelings about him. I resented him, felt remorseful towards him, wanted to trust him, but was also held back by memories of the past.
This was something I had to resolve myself, regardless of forgiveness.
But if I were to be a little honest…
“I’m curious about how he’s doing.”
Especially why he suddenly sent our family away that night, and why he hadn’t come with Aiden now… It was all puzzling.
“He’d be happy to hear that,” Aiden said.
I turned my gaze from the window to him. He continued with a bashful expression,
“To be honest, I wish you would become my sister-in-law.”
“…Why do you think so?”
“First, you have a good aura, and unlike others, I can’t read your thoughts without trying.”
He took a deep breath and added.
“But most importantly, my brother likes you a lot. I just want him to be happy.”
“…I also wish for the Duke’s happiness.”
As much as I had suffered in the past, I sincerely hoped for his happiness in this place as well.
Then Aiden continued.
“For my brother to be happy, you need to be there, right?”
Was that really true?
I realized what I was most afraid of.
I was afraid of accepting him, only to have our relationship go awry like in the past.
More precisely, I feared giving my heart and not being reciprocated.
The fear of unrequited feelings weighed heavily on me.
When did I become such a coward?
Even though I’d already come of age and had been living in this world for quite some time now… it’s only recently that I’ve started discovering new things about myself.
Lost in my thoughts, I forgot to respond to Aiden.
Aiden’s face lit up as soon as we met Rose. Clearly, he had missed her—he couldn’t take his eyes off her the entire journey.
“Young Lord, is it true there are roads in the capital big enough for two carriages to pass side by side?”
“…Yes.”
“Wow! So you don’t have to step aside for carriages?”
“Well, there are separate paths for pedestrians.”
“That’s amazing! How can a road be so big? Oh, but I don’t mean our territory’s roads are bad, Lady.”
I laughed, watching the adorable pair and replied.
“Of course, I know. Our territory is more suited for horses than carriages.”
“True. Once I went to another territory with my father, and there were so many carriages. It was a bit bigger than ours but had many inconveniences.”
“Is that so?”
“Young Lady, Young Lord, you both visited the capital, right? I was curious about how it looks.”
At Rose’s words, Aiden licked his lips and then spoke,
“Then… maybe next time… at our manor…”
Suddenly, the carriage screeched to a halt, a sound no one wanted to hear.
The coachman shouted outside.
“Why would you suddenly jump out like that!”
Curious about what was happening, I opened the window to look outside. A woman lay perilously close to the horses, unable to speak properly.
Worried she might be hurt, I quickly got out of the carriage.
“Lady, let me check instead.”
Though Aiden spoke bravely, he seemed just as startled. I waved him off and approached the woman. She was gasping for air and clearly in pain.
“My apologies, Your Ladyship. I will handle this.”
The coachman stepped forward, but I stopped him and asked the woman.
“Are you okay?”
Getting no response, I moved closer. Her face and exposed neck were flushed red.
Feeling something wasn’t right, I touched her forehead, feeling intense heat.
This sense of déjà vu urged me to command the coachman,
“Please help me get her into the carriage.”
“Yes, Your Ladyship.”
After moving the unknown woman into the carriage, we sought a physician. He said it was just a fever, but I knew better.
I had experienced it, just as Morgan, Aiden, and Rose also did.
I couldn’t leave her side, suspecting she might be the one I was looking for.
While I cooled her forehead with a wet cloth, I waited for her to wake up.
