Chapter 170

“Hehe, try to guess.”
“…It couldn’t be the Duke, could it?”
“Ah, I forgot to explain something.”
“What is it?”
Jace breathed a sigh of relief, realizing it wasn’t Ciel.
“As they are to be my hands and feet, they’re not Espers.”
“Then…”
“Besides me, more new Guides have manifested in this world. The Goddess did it directly. And She told me to use those Guides as my servants.”
Jace paused at Seo-yoon’s words. Yesterday’s incident flashed through his mind. Even without her saying it, he seemed to instinctively know who it was.
The feeling from that time resurfaced, and his heart strangely began to race.
“The woman who the Duke brought as a partner? She’s to be my servant. I already like her so much!”
Even as she spoke in a pretty voice, a chill ran through Seo-yoon’s eyes, and her lips twisted subtly, but Jace, lost in his thoughts, failed to react.
Lady Closch is a Guide?
“That’s why I came to take her to the temple right away. She’s still here, isn’t she?”
Humming a tune, Seo-yoon asked, but no answer came from Jace.
“Your Highness?”
“…Ah. Yes. She’s here.”
Seo-yoon’s eyes narrowed at his somewhat dubious response.
Just as she was about to speak, the chief attendant knocked on the door and called out,
“The Duke has come to see you, Your Highness. What shall I tell him?”
Jace felt his mind racing.
Could it be that Ciel already knew?
That the young lady of House Closch was a Guide?
Was that why he always acted that way?
Thinking about it, Ciel’s attitude towards the saintess remained unchanged. And he hadn’t received the saintess’s guiding.
Jace hadn’t thought much about it at the time, but now that everything was connected, it made sense.
Could it be that Ciel had deliberately refused the saintess’s guiding?
He hadn’t thought it possible, but what if Ciel had already received guiding from Lady Closch?
His thoughts branched out wildly. Then Seo-yoon spoke to him.
“What are you doing? Why don’t you invite him in?”
Seo-yoon considered the situation to her advantage. She wanted to tell the duke, who once dared to mock her, directly.
That woman you care so much about is merely my servant.
And with the privileges of a saintess and the power of the temple, I will take that woman away from you.
While Seo-yoon wore a triumphant expression, Jace’s face darkened as he ordered the head servant,
“Let the Duke in.”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
Shortly after, Ciel entered the drawing room, perfectly dressed, and bowed to Jace before standing upright once more.
“I apologize for disturbing you early in the morning, Your Highness.”
“Well… What brings you here, Duke?”
Seo-yoon glared at Ciel for not greeting her, even though she was clearly in sight. She had thought this man merely indifferent towards her, but now she seemed to understand a bit more.
“Do I not appear in the Duke’s eyes? Your Highness, can’t you see me? Have I become invisible?”
“You are very much visible, Saintess. Duke. What are you doing, not greeting the Saintess first?”
Ciel seemed to understand why the High Priest had sent someone to him at night, upon witnessing Seo-yoon revealing her true nature now.
“I apologize, but I didn’t realize the Saintess was here. Who would ever imagine finding a lady present in a place where only His Highness should be? I thought perhaps His Highness had taken a lover to alleviate his loneliness.”
Ciel’s sarcastic remark, apparent to anyone, infuriated Seo-yoon, and Jace felt the same.
“Duke! I cannot overlook this behavior towards the Saintess!”
“I apologize, Your Highness. But I did not expect the Saintess to be in the drawing room near Your Highness’s chambers at this hour.”
Despite Jace’s scolding, Ciel remained unfazed and even preempted.
“I was in a hurry and out of sorts. Please understand.”
And, he deliberately omitted who he was asking understanding from, leaving it ambiguous.
“What urgent matter brought you here?”
“Well, last night, I received an urgent message. Monsters appeared in the Closch territory. Therefore, under my orders, I sent the Closch family back to their domain.”
“…Last night?”
“Yes. The Baron cannot stay here while monsters have emerged. Isn’t that right, Saintess?”
“…Yes.”
Jace was taken aback by Ciel’s words. The reason was slightly complicated, leaving him momentarily speechless.
He wanted to feel that energy again from yesterday…
No.
He couldn’t forgive himself for having such thoughts in front of the saintess.
