Then, when he opened his previously closed lids, his blue eyes looked at me as though he’d been waiting.

Based on what he said, it sounds like he needs her for guiding, but on top of that, he keeps saying he misses her like crazy and wishes he could hold her. It also seems like he was a lot more conscious of her than she realized. They both can recognize each other’s posture, gait, and atmosphere in a glance. While he sounds like he had the expressiveness of a block of wood, it sounds like they actually watched each other with similar intensity.
What’s sad too is that is sounds like Seohyun actually had a really good read on him originally. She thought he looked relieved when higher ups decided to make her his guide and she thought she saw passion in his gaze when he asked her to marry him. Despite his abrasive personality, she was reading into the emotions she thought she saw. And it seems she was right. But a certain apparently fake Saintess came in and convinced her that she’d misread him and none of that was ever there. It was such a light thing to pick up on in the first place that MC’s low self esteem took over and she fell into self doubt. I’m not even sure the ML realizes that happened. He might even think they were mutually in love.

I get the feeling he’s one of the types often used in novels, that doesn’t know how to express his true feelings properly. The type that think what they say is just fine when in reality they are leaving out important parts. I am quite certain he loved her dearly but just didn’t know how to express it. She might have even been the first person he opened his heart to at all. Hence, his words can be misunderstood, unless you add what is missing. “Compared to your Esper’s words, it seems like superior’s words are more important to you.” Seems a bit like jealousy. [ Just shoulder all the burdens in the world by yourself, why don’t you. ] – Seems like he’s upset that she’s not relying on him. Then again, I could be reaching. I’ve just read a lot of novels with this kind of MC.

My guess the saintess wanted both the duke and the prince to be her personal espers (MC said espers usually treat guides really well) and to save her world that was close to collapsing. Either she’s still further away than he could perceive and “Duke?” was more her mumbling to herself (at the end of the chapter she’s still stiring the horse in the direction. There’s nothing like “she looked at him and when he didn’t react she dismounted” or sth. So how close is she really)

I think it varies? I met a Japanese teacher who always called her daughter “Rui-chan” and I felt really surprised she didn’t just call her Rui. I know this is Korean, not Japanese, but it might be a similar type of case where the dad here is adding a suffix or something that means “dear” or “beloved.” It’d probably sound a little funny if that Japanese teacher’s dialogue with her daughter was translated to English and she kept calling her something like “Rui cutie.”

I recommend you to read this novel the tl is amazing, on time. The story is so good. I can’t say it’s fav of all the novels for me. But it has a good storyline and like C-rank deep characters. Also it has a good backstory, twists and nice development through the story. It might be a little slow paced but i prefered if they could go on with the story faster.

It seems like Ciel was originally from this world but he transmigrated to Korea where he met Seo-hyeon. He married her but remained distant until she died (maybe because he originally had feelings for Seo-yoon because they seem to have known each other when they were younger, and she went back to Korea with him). But when Seo-hyeon died, he died and he returned to his younger self and Seo-hyeon transmigrated into Irene (the “true” star). So before he craved Seo-yoon, but now can’t stand her because he saw her real self when he was older- probably she was used to him obsessing over her when they were younger but he knows she drove Seo-hyeon away when Seo-yoon thought Seo-hyeon was stealing him away.

Honestly, The way they talk to/address eachother is so unreal, cringy, and weird. And the way they are all so obsessed and clingy to just their dauther is unpleasant, if parents were fond of both siblings in the same way and the siblings had a cute rivalry relationship it would have been way more natural and cute. Also her mother is on my nerves all the time. She was really good in this episode: putting her daughter’s comfort and feelings first while telling her to think with her brain and considering the dangers. (That was surprising). All the 105 half chapters is abt how irene’s in denial, backround on who the saint was, how regretful the male lead is, and how irene’s living her life as a closch, no closure so far between them. And the recent chap is irene starting to accept him again when she clearly declared that she wont have anything to do with him anymore, that’s why it’s disappointing because there’s little to no payoff.

I have to agree with lalaela. That wasn’t enough. Just a couple chapters ago Ciel wasn’t listening to Irene at all whatsoever. And even just last chapter he said that Irene would be a future Duchess because she knows that he can’t live without her. Ciel still isn’t properly listening to Irene. It’s not his decision on whether she will be a duchess or not. So she should just let him to his thing? Just because he is a little nicer?

I… I think, I know what author supposed to write about the personality of ml.
In the past, in his original world, when there is an esper but not guide. The esper will suffer from a terrible pain, especially when the ml is S-class, the highest class of esper. When holy water can’t erase that terrible pain, Suddenly, a saintess appear, everyone regard her as a daughter of god because she show up out of nowhere and that’s because she can relieve that terrible pain, that the esper suffer too.
Because all of that too, the ml follow blindly her word.
And i think there is some sentence that said esper gradually appear, but not with the guide.
And someday saintess said to ml and the crown prince that she will bring more guide from her world to ml world. And because ml is the highest esper, she choose him to bring in korea.
And i don’t know if i read this sentence from the novel version or manhwa version. But it is said that if esper always continue use their power, there will be a price that need to paid. And that is a feeling of terrible pain that feel like your whole body is being on fire.
And yeah, that saintess trick him. She bring him to korea to use him, tied him into korea government so that he can save korea from those monster.
Of course he feel betrayed, because he must use his power continusly, feeling that terrible pain over and over again.
And he did say that his first impresion of our FL is bad because her posture look like a trained soldier that government send to spy him.
And if i am not wrong, he did say that he miss her so badly. When he saw the lifeless body of his wife, his body, his mind, his heart, burning like crazy. In the end, he also died like his wife, burning alive.
So, in my oppinion, he did lover her so badly. But because of the environment, the trauma, and his habit of being a noble. Make him unable to express his feeling toward his wife.

So, the fl think that her first life is at modern world and reincarnated to historical world. But then she found out that actually, her first life is at historical world. In the first life she died young, and there is someone who want to save her soul. So, her soul getting reincarnated in modern world, because her soul not from that modern world. In that world, she live a missrable life, everyone just naturally reject her.

This is a very well written novel, you have read between the lines until the story deigns to spell it all out to us. All the clues and puzzle pieces are painting an intriguing picture.
He first thought his wife was sent by the government, but was then relieved by their match rate and her guidance, it's a boon considering how much they have him use his power. Then he loved her, and married her, but it didn't change his trust issues. A commenter from previous chapter (Andi) put it perfectly, I think she had a good read on him initially, before Seo-yon poisoned her thoughts.

He was initially distrustful of her, and after they got married, he was likely still wary of opening up for multiple reasons.

– She could be used against him if they realized how much she means to him. You can't blame him for being paranoid of the sheer amount of surveillance he's been subjected to. For a someone coming from medieval era, the amount of ways he'd realize they can keep tabs on him must have be horrifying. Even for nobleman who grew up always surrounded by servants. There's simply no escape.
– She never opened up to him, or at least not enough. He might have known how much sh-t they've been giving her, but the story never gave any indication she mentioned any of it to him. She endured, like she always did. It must have had a negative influence on their marriage.

Don't yell at me, I'm not excusing him entirely. I'm just stating my theories as to why he pretended not to love her. In the end, two idiots who didn't know how to be with one another.
Her, desperate to be loved, but not knowing how it's like to love and be loved healthily. She simply endured, not speaking out in fear of losing him. She held on to him the way she knew and learned, as an orphan who grew up with nothing, who has to fight to keep what is theirs.
Him, arrogant and entitled, now cornered and surrounded. Think of it as a nobleman who found himself as a prized slave or gladiator in a faraway country, one that is so foreign, that it might as well have been alien, and he given up as such by someone he never once suspected. How much is his, really, in this situation? How much can he trust those around him? But she gave her life for him, he must have realized belatedly that he could have trusted her, he could have opened up, wasted so much time to not, and now she's dead.
These are my thoughts. They're my impressions from the first season of the webtoon and to this point of the novel. I'm sharing them because I got tired of seeing comments bashing those and their choices. I'm not denying they're idiots, just that humans are infinitely complex, and they can be more than just one thing. Plus, the fact that you can't discount the influence of the environment/situation has on decision making.
I'm looking forward to what this novel has on store for us, and I sincerely hope in doesn't dissapoint my expectations.

I had a condition that caused my liver and gall bladder to misfunction causing toxins to not be properly filtered (very dangerous for the baby in the last month of pregnancy).
