Obviously, It's My Child - Chapter 210
Now, there wasn’t much that could be done even if Erich looked, but perhaps there was only one living room and reception room in the house.
As he turned his hand to close the bedroom door, Claire curiously asked,
“Are you concerned about the butler?”
That couldn’t be the case. Erich treated the butler and staff almost like furniture.
It was the first time Erich realized that he was bothered by it. That was when Claire was just wearing a robe over her slip.
But for now, it wasn’t about the butler.
“Linus is here.”
“Oh, here?”
It wasn’t like it was an inappropriate place for him to be, but since Erich seemed bothered, Claire found herself feeling awkward as well.
There was a knock on the door again.
It must be Linus. Claire made a troubled face, but Erich, undeterred, kissed the back of her ear.
Claire’s lips barely parted.
Erich lightly bit her lips to deepen the kiss.
As he steadied her swaying body and waist, he whispered,
“Did I wake you with the noise? I should have gotten the report outside.”
“Was there something important?”
Claire, still half asleep, buried her face in his chest and asked lazily,
“Linus is going to leave Ludendorff.”
“Ah…”
She lifted her head at that.
“He would be going to the imperial palace, right?”
“After meeting with Lady Augusta, yes, probably.”
Claire sighed and placed her hand on Erich’s arm, which was around her waist.
“Why? Are you worried about him?”
“A little. He said he didn’t want to meet, but he still went.”
“It probably took him a while to think about it.”
“True. He’s a bit old for a whirlwind phase though.”
Erich didn’t fully understand that comment, but he caught the gist from her tone.
“You should go say goodbye.”
“Anyway, I’ll see him in the capital.”
“True, but I feel bad if he thought it was a hassle. I should’ve gone to talk to him right after Lady Augusta left.”
“You’ve done your part.”
Claire murmured with her eyes closed.
“Even though you’re feeling uncomfortable yourself.”
“He’s blood-related to me.”
“Well, you were surprisingly cold for that.”
Claire laughed.
“There were some practical reasons, too. If he grows attached to Elliott, in case… if something happens…”
“Sounds like you’re worried the sky will fall. It won’t happen. Even if we suffer some losses, nothing drastic will occur.”
Erich lightly tilted Claire’s chin and looked into her eyes.
“Well, that’s true. It’s a worry ahead of time. Anyway, I hope Linus is okay. The thought of fighting with the future Emperor is terrifying.”
“If Linus becomes emotionally independent from the Empress, that might not happen.”
“Do you think that’s possible?”
Erich couldn’t give an optimistic answer.
“I don’t know. A person’s nature doesn’t change that easily.”
“It’s probably for the best not to think about it. That’s why inheritance shouldn’t work like this.”
“You can’t choose your children, but you still have to raise them properly.”
“You’re wrong. In this case, the problem is not being able to choose the parents.”
Normally, Erich would have said that since the family’s honor and legacy had been passed down, it was only right to fulfill the corresponding duties.
But considering the dangers Elliott had inherited, he couldn’t speak lightly about it.
“What are you thinking?”
“It’s nothing.”
He thought of his father, but it wasn’t a subject for discussion right now. It was an old matter that was too petty to bring up now.
As if reading his thoughts, Claire tugged at his tie.
“Are you planning to choke me?”
Before the words were even finished, their lips met.
Erich had no intention of resisting and was swept along.
It was amazing how every kiss felt completely different depending on who initiated it, even if it was the same kiss.
Forgetting that the aide was waiting outside, he wrinkled Claire’s smooth gown.
In the process, the luxurious silk tie, which had been carefully arranged by the butler, slipped out from under his waistcoat, and the neat arrangement was ruined.
It wasn’t until her fingers slid into the knot and loosened the tie that he realized what had happened.
Erich stopped kissing and, with a smile, said,
“Are you going to mess it up, and then I’ll fix it?”
“Sorry, but I know how to tie it, you know?”
Claire said, then placed her lips against the open collar.
“Ugh.”
She nipped at the raw mark from last night, and Erich let out a short groan. The sharp pain spread deeply.
With a satisfied look on her face, Claire adjusted his collar and wrapped the tie around it again.
As her hand brushed his neck, Erich murmured her name.
“Claire.”
But there was no third kiss.
Claire took a step back, surveying him with a look that seemed to evaluate him, stopping at his waist.
Erich sighed in disbelief.
Claire reached for him again.
Unbuttoning his waistcoat, adjusting the tie knot neatly, then rebuttoning it without a hint of impatience.
“What’s wrong with tying your husband’s tie for work?”
Whether Erich glared at her or not, she said this with a smile and then slipped out of his arms.
She flopped onto the bed and said,
“Go ahead. I’ll sleep some more.”
“Ha.”
Erich swiped his hand over his forehead, through his hair. The feeling of being toyed with was definitely not pleasant.
Claire waved him off with a dismissive gesture. Erich was about to say something, but a cautious knock sounded from outside.
“I’ll see you later for dinner.”
He made his declaration and strode out.
