My Past Life is Riddled With Many Sins - Chapter 3
“The sixth candidate was the Empress’ lover, the Margrave. It’s said that his obsession with the Great Empress was so intense that he hated her even talking with anyone else other than him. Due to his fiery temperament, some speculate that he might have been blinded by jealousy and assassinated the Empress.”
As the Margrave turned, his aiglets and cloak swayed gracefully. He walked confidently, then he looked alternately between the two empty seats and finally took one.
Lastly, a scholar-like male puppet with a monocle appeared.
“The seventh candidate was another lover, the Chancellor. There were testimonies from palace courtiers claiming that he and the Empress had a bad fight the day before. Although the cause is unknown, they had a heated exchange during a private audience with the Empress, and afterwards, the Empress declared to the Chief Attendant that she would end her relationship with the Chancellor.”
The Chancellor took the last remaining seat. With that, seven men and women surrounded the Empress that had fallen on the bed from left to right.
“Now, who among them truly killed the Great Empress?”
The puppeteer skillfully manipulated the puppets to enact scenes of harming the Empress.
People in the audience, sipping their drinks and watching the puppet show, offered their thoughts.
“It’s probably the First Concubine. Imagine how dreadful it must have been to lie down with the enemy who killed your parents and brothers.”
“The Margrave, for sure. He couldn’t bear the Empress meeting other men and women, so he went crazy and committed murder in rage.”
“Surprisingly, it could be the Second Consort. Think about it. How would you feel if some crazy noble took you as their concubine, with the same thing between your legs?”
“If that’s the case, the Third Consort is also a possibility. The Empress forced him to take men.”
“No, it’s definitely the legal consort, the Grand Duke. The Great Empress’s habit of recklessly with her lower body won’t end until death do them part.”
“What if the identity of Favorite Concubine, in fact, an assassin sent from another country? It’s highly likely he honey trapped the Empress in case their own country might be invaded.”
“Maybe the Chancellor, in a quarrel with the Empress and out of anger…..”
Amidst various speculations, Regina diligently carried the beer. Holding twelve glasses with both hands, she stacked six more on top and effortlessly moved them all at once, earning cheers from those around her.
“Here it is, Regina’s special service!”
“It’s amazing to see how she can do that with those slender arms.”
It wasn’t anything particularly surprising. Living as a daughter in a tavern, she naturally acquired these skills.
Regina quickly served beer to several tables.
“Four glasses of dark beer for your order.”
“One Bernena beer, two Lehman beers, and three Mallus beers. Is there anything else you need?”
“Two glasses of beer and one glass of Rim beer, right?”
Being a local establishment, the customers who frequented the place were always the same faces. Naturally, Regina had memorized their preferences well, so there was no confusion in the orders.
While Regina was half-absorbed in her routine, someone approached her.
“Oh, I’ll enjoy the drinks. By the way, who do you think it is, Regina? Among the seven, the culprit who killed the Empress.”
The tip of Regina’s fingers holding the beer glass grew slightly tenser.
“Well? I just…”
Rolling her eyes and mumbling, Regina picked up the beer glasses to serve another table. In that brief moment, the somewhat drunk voice of a man echoed from somewhere.
“Honestly, it wouldn’t be surprising no matter who did it!”
Regina’s body momentarily lost balance, thankfully, her ten years of serving experience kept the beer glasses in her hands from spilling. But the unexpected blow to her bones was not insignificant.
How long will she endure this pain? Why are people so interested in others’ private lives? What does it matter who died at the hands of who from over 200 years ago?
“Seriously, whether it was a man or a woman, you shouldn’t use your lower body promiscuously. What’s more, no one knows who among the seven is the culprit.”
Hearing the chuckles in response, Regina swallowed a sigh.
‘Yes, yes. I’m the owner of that promiscuous lower body, that it’s not strange if someone killed me…’
Having vivid memories from a past life, is it a blessing or a curse? If she had lived a good life, perhaps it wouldn’t matter. But what if the sins of her past life were not just a few? What if people are still ridiculing the mistakes of that previous life?
Before she became Regina, in her past life, she was the Empress named Yekarna.
She was cruel, viewing war as a mere hobby and despite achieving significant accomplishments worthy of being called a Great Empress, she also accumulated a lot of karma and eventually met her demise.
Now, she’s reborn as the daughter of an ordinary couple running a tavern in the village.
Was it because she had lived a life of debauchery? Now, she had little interest in such matters. It’s not that she hated it, but it was more like… she tasted enough about it. It wasn’t something she felt the need to pursue, even if it had some excitement.
At first, she struggled to adapt to the fact that she was born into a commoner, but as she lived, it turned out to be not so bad.
A life without intrigue, schemes, or constraints. Going to bed without worrying about her life being in danger, eating without fearing poison, and socializing without the complexities of political calculations.
Bloodlines were not an obstacle that needed to be eliminated for the sake of seizing power, turned out to be strangely endearing and sometimes annoying. Her parents didn’t ask for much, just wishing for her to grow up healthy.
In a small village where the most thrilling gossip was the neighbor’s husband getting his hair ripped out by his wife, Regina dealt with the same customers every day. Then gathering around the same table with her family for a simple meal and engaging in leisurely conversations, then she would eventually fall asleep.
It was an unbelievably peaceful daily life.
