My Past Life is Riddled With Many Sins - Chapter 146
The group arrived in the Kirel Kingdom through the teleportation magic and was greeted by a well-groomed middle-aged man.
“I am Owen, your guide. Please follow me.”
When the middle-aged man showed a symbol representing the underworld, the Crown Prince nodded. It seemed they had procured a guide from the underworld’s information guild, someone well-versed in the geography of the Kirel Kingdom.
Regina inwardly screamed.
‘That man, it’s Lennon!’
Despite having disguised himself completely, changing his appearance and age, she recognized him instantly. Bliss and Darien seemed to have the same reaction, their faces immediately contorting.
Lennon, catching her gaze, winked slyly. She stared at him blankly and thought.
Darien, Bliss, and Lennon—was this some kind of hell? But the true abyss was still ahead.
“I am alchemist Fernel.”
A strikingly androgynous beauty with a slight lift of the skirt greeted them, and Regina heard Bliss muttering under his breath in a shocked tone.
“Is that freak Rivnoir out of his mind? Why is he wearing a dress?”
It was the unexpected appearance of Rexid Rivnoir, the Third Concubine and one of the Seven Guardians of the Empire.
Rexid Rivnoir was a tribute to Empress Yekarna from one of the empire’s many vassal states.
At the time, Yekarna already had four legitimate spouses: Grand Duke Friedrich Eldenberg, the First Concubine, Iskanda Nyx (who had destroyed and brought the Lislet Kingdom to ruin), and the Second Concubine, Mary Batusha, a daughter of a Baron family. In addition, she had two lovers: Margrave Skyler Linzmeyer and Marquis Lennon Kysis.
It was well-known across the continent that the Empress, who had recently taken Mary Batusha as a concubine, couldn’t satisfy her desires with just five men, so she extended her reach to women as well.
For Yekarna to accept the prince as a tribute, the intention behind it was all too clear.
Yekarna, with a sense of curiosity and amusement, watched the delegation from his seat as they carefully unwrapped the packaging. Inside, they found a cage, and within it was a stunningly beautiful androgynous figure.
The man, with his long, gray-tinged blue hair and ocean-colored eyes, gazed up at her like a water fairy. That was Regina’s first encounter with Rexid Rivnoir, who was taken in as one of the Empress’s concubines.
She was very satisfied with his beauty, as she was weak to beautiful things and filled the cage he was in with treasures before sending it back. Later, Yekarna invaded that vassal state, squeezing much more from it than she had initially given, but that’s another story.
‘At this point, it’s no surprise, but damn, I was really a piece of trash in my past life.’
She would give a large gift. But she would eventually reclaim the original amount and interest. If that wasn’t a gangster move, she didn’t know what was.
As Regina reflected on her past self, the Crown Prince’s voice reached her ears.
“I’m Fabian Gustav Villarperosa Lee Enfield. Are you the alchemist that claimed to have created a device that reacts to demonic energy?”
“Yes, Your Highness.”
The alchemist Fernel, the reincarnation of Prince Rexid Rivnoir, answered.
Regina was taken aback by the unexpected exchange. She had only been informed that they were heading to the Kirel Kingdom, not that they would be discussing such a thing. Yet, neither the Archbishop Duke, Bliss, Darien, nor Lennon showed any signs of surprise. It seemed they had been briefed beforehand.
She glanced at the side of the Crown Prince’s face.
‘He’s my descendant, but such a disappointment.’
When he suddenly mentioned going to meet an alchemist as soon as they arrived in the Kirel Kingdom, she thought perhaps they were buying some kind of bomb-like object, but this hidden agenda had been in place all along.
But, in a way, it seemed well-planned. By sharing the information only with trusted people, there was no risk of it leaking prematurely.
Regina realized that, as someone who wasn’t even from the Empire and wasn’t nobility, and hadn’t been acquainted with the Crown Prince for long, there was little reason for him to trust her. Now, she understood why.
However, the fact that the alchemist being the reincarnation of Prince Rexid Rivnoir seemed to be news even to Darien and Bliss. Even Lennon, who had the best information guild on the continent, had information about the alchemist Fernel but seemed to be seeing him in person for the first time, only now realizing his true identity.
“Can I examine the device?”
“Yes, of course.”
Fernel, speaking in a refined, antiquated tone, handed the Crown Prince a box the size of his palm. The Crown Prince’s knight received the box and opened it. Inside was a small stone.
“It doesn’t give an exact distance, but when there is a presence from the demon world within a certain radius, the stone will emit light.”
“How did you figure that out?”
“By chance, I obtained a plant-based monster and experimented on it. Afterward, I carried this stone with me and found that when it glowed, there were creatures nearby that appeared to be either animal- or plant-based monsters.”
“Appeared to be?”
The Crown Prince raised an eyebrow at the vague wording.
“I didn’t verify everything, so I missed some cases. However, the ones I managed to catch dispersed into black smoke.”
“So, according to you, it’s not certain whether it can detect devilkins. You’ve had success with monsters, but there’s been no case with devilkins yet.”
“There was one occasion when it glowed on the street, but since they resembled humans, I couldn’t attack rashly. All I can do is wait for this ‘Yelena’s Stone’ to find a wise owner.”
Regina almost coughed when she heard the word. ‘Yelena’ was Yekarna’s childhood nickname, one that had been unused since adulthood, to the point where even she had half-forgotten it.
It seemed she wasn’t the only one who remembered ‘Yelena,’ as Lennon, Bliss, and Darien all had mysterious expressions. It was only the Crown Prince, her descendant, who looked utterly confused.
“Yelena?”
“She’s the one I admire, Your Highness.”
