My Fiancé Keeps Sabotaging My Love Life - Chapter 6
Chapter 3.2
Even though she had no idea why he was so convinced, unlike him, she actually knew how the original story went. So instead of wasting time arguing, she figured it’d be much faster just to prove him wrong.
Having calmly organized her thoughts, she asked in a clear, firm voice.
“So if I can prove I don’t have the same mark as you, you’ll break off the engagement, right?”
Axion’s face showed a flicker of something unreadable, but he nodded without protest.
“Yeah, if that happens, you can do as you wish.”
They agreed to stay engaged until the mark appeared. But if it turned out to be different marks, they’d call the engagement off.
Even though it was happening later than she’d hoped, the thought that she’d finally be able to break off the engagement made Evelyn breathe a sigh of relief. Still, part of her couldn’t help but wonder if, by some slim chance, they did end up with the same mark, what would happen then?
‘Not that there’s any way that’ll actually happen, of course.’
After taking a light sip of warm black tea, she asked in a much softer tone.
“But… just hypothetically. What if I did turn out to be your imprint partner, what would you do then?”
“If you were my imprint partner…”
A strange glint of satisfaction flickered in Axion’s red eyes as he thought for a moment. Then, as his words trailed off, a smile slowly spread across his lips.
“I suppose a warm spring would be nice.”
At his sudden mention of the season, Evelyn tilted her head in confusion.
“Huh? Why are you talking about spring all of a sudden?”
At that, Axion stared at her as if wondering why she was even asking something so obvious.
‘Why… why is he looking at me like that—’
Just as Evelyn started to feel uneasy under the strange tension, a sly grin crept across his lips.
“We’d need to prepare.”
“Prepare for what?”
“Our wedding.”
‘He’s insane…’
She scowled and glared at her fiancé. Just like she thought, he was far beyond the bounds of normalcy.
“Cut it out with that creepy talk.”
At her cold words, Axion let out a low chuckle, seemingly amused by the situation. Taking a quick breath, she forced herself to stay calm and continued.
“Anyway, I get what you’re saying. But could you at least do something about that marriage announcement?”
Axion, looking as if he didn’t understand why it was necessary, replied in a rather indifferent voice.
“We’ll end up doing it soon anyway, so is there really any need to correct it?”
…Unbelievable.
The thought of continuing this engagement with someone hopeless from the very beginning made her dread the bleak future ahead.
Stifling a sigh, she mustered the last bit of patience she had left.
“Fixing a news article shouldn’t be hard for you.”
“Well, if that’s what my fiancée wants.”
Axion nodded lightly, then pulled a small case from his pocket and handed it to her.
“What’s this?”
“Open it. It’s a gift for you.”
“A gift…?”
Right now, in this situation?
Evelyn was a bit surprised and absentmindedly opened the small case she’d received. Inside was a bracelet, glittering with vibrant rubies set closely together. The gems, which resembled the color of Axion’s eyes, sparkled brilliantly as if they’d just been polished.
Her green eyes wavered at the sight of such an extravagant item.
‘I definitely refused when he said he’d send anything to the marquis’ residence…’
And yet he managed to prepare something like this in just one day. His efficiency was terrifying. Honestly, the bracelet somehow felt more like a shackle than a gift.
‘He didn’t put a tracking spell on this or something, did he?’
Evelyn eyed the bracelet suspiciously, but Axion just gave her a lazy smile, as if he’d anticipated her suspicion.
“There’s no magic on it, so you can relax.”
‘…Can I really trust that?’
While wondering if she should take her fiancé’s word at face value, she soon stood up from her seat.
“Alright, thank you. I’ll see you at the coming-of-age ceremony.”
