Chapter 60.2

* * *

A few days later, upon hearing that the culprit who had drugged my tea had been caught, Reinhardt and I rushed to the interrogation room.

Located deep beneath the Grand Duke’s mansion, the interrogation room was connected to the prison, giving off a damp and gloomy atmosphere. Under the dim yellow lighting, two chairs were placed.

Mario sat on the left, and a maid I’d barely seen before sat on the right. Both looked terrible.

“We caught them trying to escape. We searched their room and found sleeping pills.”

The soldier guarding the interrogation room saluted Reinhardt and continued his report.

“They confessed who ordered them and how they were contacted. We plan to apprehend and interrogate them today.”

“And this one?”

Reinhardt gestured towards Mario with his chin.

“We raided the meeting place of this individual and the intermediary, but they had already sensed something and escaped.”

“Figures.”

Reinhardt let out a hollow laugh as if he hadn’t expected much. He then ordered the soldier to leave before roughly ripping the gags from Mario and the maid’s mouths.

“What do you think I’m going to do to you?”

At his ominous murmur, the maid and Mario whimpered and trembled.

“I’m… I’m sorry… I’ll never do it again, please have mercy…”

“Please, just spare my life…”

“Your deaths are already decided. Now all that’s left is to decide how painful the process will be.”

“Sob… p-please…”

“Your Grace… you can’t do this to me! You know how well I’ve treated you!”

I looked down at the pleading Mario with an indifferent gaze.

It was true that Mario had treated me well, unlike a typical kidnapper. He answered my questions and made sure I was fed.

But what did that matter?

Mario hadn’t let me go, regardless of whether I lived or died at the hands of his client. That couldn’t be considered being treated well.

“You should have let me go, Mario. That would have been treating me well. You missed your chance when I gave you one.”

I smiled faintly and handed Mario the bread and milk I had brought.

“Just like you did, I will cooperate fully with my husband and ‘them.’ I don’t care what my husband and ‘them’ do to you. But I will make sure you have bread and milk.”

In a way, I was treating him better than Mario had treated me. It was so difficult to find hard bread in this wealthy Grand Duke’s mansion that I had no choice but to give him soft, fluffy bread.

“You can come out now, guys.”

I said, opening the pendant of the necklace I was wearing. Two streams of mucus shot out from the pendants and merged into two large lumps.

“We’re big! We’re big!”

“Yeah! That’s right! We’re big!”

The squishies, now in their full form, bounced around joyfully. Startled by the sudden appearance of the Tartars, Mario and the maid screamed.

“Aaaaagh!”

“Ta, Ta…!”

Reinhardt quickly gagged them, cutting their screams short. They simply stared back and forth between Reinhardt and me with crazed eyes.

“Can block their noses before blocking their assholes?”

“I want eyes! We should gouge out their bad eyes!”

“Do whatever you want.”

As soon as Reinhardt gave his permission, the squishies giggled with delight.

“Yay! We’ll kill you slowly!”

“Yeah! We’ll kill you gently!”

“My lady, there will be blood. Would you mind stepping out for a moment?”

Reinhardt, who was cleaning his sword, spoke to me in a gentle voice that didn’t match his actions.

“I will. As a mere collaborator, I don’t need to see such a gruesome sight.”

I said pointedly, smiling sweetly as I walked out of the interrogation room. Soon, ear-splitting screams echoed from within.

* * *

Tigris Agrahan.

He was the imperial knight who had previously been ordered by Roxanne to find someone to kidnap Irovel.

For some reason, he had been gathering information about kidnappings for years, so he was able to hire only those who were experts at covering their tracks and disappearing. This was beyond Roxanne’s expectations.

Roxanne had simply wanted to use someone as her shield. It was a stroke of luck for her that she had chosen Tigris.

“The Erestein side is looking for the person behind the kidnapping?”

“Yes. But since I’ve planted so many intermediaries, it will be difficult for them to trace it back. They’re all experts at covering their tracks.”

“Well done. You may leave now. Forget everything we talked about just now, but subconsciously continue to work for me.”

Tigris bowed to Roxanne and left the Empress’s palace. The moment he did, the red aura surrounding him vanished. At the same time, the conversation he’d had with Roxanne disappeared from his memory.

‘It’s happening again.’

Tigris, who had been finding it strange that his memory disappeared whenever he entered and left the Empress’s palace, took out his notebook. There was a memo written there that he didn’t remember writing.

—To-Do List for Today—
[ Scrap newspaper articles about Lady Irovel ]
[ Request Link Newspaper and Adam Newspaper to publish interview articles about Lady Irovel ]
[ Report their movements ]

He definitely remembered writing the first two lines but not the last one.

Who were ‘they’? Even if he didn’t know that, he seemed to know who he was supposed to report to.
