My Contract Husband is Going Crazy Because of My Iron Wall - Chapter 59.2
Chapter 59.2
“Okay!”
I hurried to the dressing room and changed.
‘Yes! Finally escaped that awkward situation!’
I cheered internally and sat at the vanity to dry my hair with a towel. In this world without hair dryers, towel drying was the only option. It usually took several maids to do the job, so it was taking quite a while on my own.
“Wife? Are you there?”
Apparently, my prolonged absence was making him anxious again.
Reinhardt spoke from outside the dressing room door. Now that I was dressed, there was nothing to be embarrassed about. I called out to him confidently.
“Yes, you can come in.”
He entered immediately. He watched intently as I continued drying my hair.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“It’s… fascinating.”
“Don’t you dry your hair like this, Reinhardt?”
“Mine dries quickly if I just towel it off.”
“But you must have seen your mother drying her hair.”
“I haven’t. I’ve never shared such a personal space with her.”
‘Since we share a bedroom, he’s seeing a side of me that even my parents haven’t.’
A strange, indescribable feeling washed over me.
“It must be tiring to keep rubbing your hair like that until it’s dry.”
“It is. I wish there were a magic tool that produced warm air.”
“I should commission the magic research institute to develop one.”
“I already looked into it, but it’s not exactly a small sum to commission something like that. It’s not even that important, and it would only be for my personal use.”
Reinhardt simply smiled as if wondering what the problem was.
“May I try?”
I readily handed him the towel. It wasn’t like he was stroking my hair, just drying it. It didn’t seem like something to get flustered about.
“If I’m going to do it, I’d like to see your real hair.”
Since we were alone, there was no reason not to. I took off my ring. Reinhardt gulped, staring at my now-pink hair.
‘…Does my hair look tasty?’
“Wife.”
After drying and toying with my hair for a while, Reinhardt softly called my name.
“Yes?”
“Irovel.”
“Yes?”
“You will never disappear from my sight again.”

That night, lying beside me in the marble-floored bedroom, Reinhardt stared at me with wide eyes.
“What is it, Reinhardt?”
“Wife.”
“Yes?”
“I can’t stand it anymore.”
“Stand what?”
He abruptly sat up.
“I have to go beyond the barrier. Now.”
“…What? Now?”
I stared at him, bewildered. He was suddenly talking about crossing the barrier in the middle of the night?
“Don’t we need to tell Larboris and the squishies about Empress Roxanne?”
“Ah, I was planning to, but… I didn’t think you’d be so concerned about them. We’ve been seeing them more often lately, but you seemed a bit uncomfortable around the Tartars.”
“I can’t help but think about them.”
Reinhardt hurriedly dressed and packed a bag.
I quickly followed suit, and we expertly slipped out of the mansion and stood before the barrier. Even after all we’d been through, this moment was always nerve-wracking.
‘I should probably go first again.’
I thought. But then, Reinhardt lifted my chin and kissed me.
Late summer snow began to fall softly. Warm breaths mingled in the cold air. Neither of us moved our lips. Yet, I felt this kiss was different. Perhaps it was because Reinhardt didn’t pull away, even though I’d forgotten to breathe.
“Wife.”
He whispered, his lips barely parted as if about to kiss me again.
“I was terrified, too. Terrified of losing you.”
“….”
“I’m so relieved I found you. And that you… haven’t left me yet.”
‘…Yet.’
His words implied he knew I planned to leave him eventually. Perhaps I was mistaken.
“You speak as if you’ll leave the moment our contract ends. Why were you so eager to go before it even expired?”
I wasn’t mistaken. He knew.
“I want to keep you in my arms all day, every day, and never let you go.”
Reinhardt reached out to me but then withdrew his hand as if it had been aimed at empty air all along.
“Why do you do this to me…?”
With a sigh, he kissed me again. And once more, I forgot to breathe.
