“What, what is the meaning of this?!”
I pushed against his chest in surprise, but he only pressed his lips back against mine.
“Mmm…!”
He pulled away slightly, his voice a low murmur.
“Sharing breath, in preparation.”
His languid tone was unfamiliar, unlike the usual gruff yet tender Reinhardt I knew.
“Even if we share breath now, it won’t last until we reach the barrier… What’s the point…?”
Before I could finish, his lips covered mine again as he moved against me fiercely as if trying to devour my very breath, forcing my lips apart. Reinhardt held the kiss for a moment before pulling away with a warning.
“I’ll keep stealing your breath until you agree to take me with you.”
And then his lips descended once more. I struggled against his hold on my waist and neck, though his grip was too strong.
“Do you still not understand me? I would never put you in danger.”
His lips returned to mine.
“Don’t say things that anger me.”
He pulled away and then kissed me again.
“Just say you’ll take me. Do you want this to continue?”
He kissed me roughly and then softly before he pulled away again.
Our eyes met as I trembled.
“…Fine. Let’s go together! I said I’ll take you!”
I finally surrendered, my breath ragged. Reinhardt instantly released me. I couldn’t deny the unwelcome pang of disappointment.
“I specifically asked for your cooperation so I wouldn’t fall for you. This is a breach of contract!”
“I told you clearly. I’d only do this until you agreed to take me. If you had agreed sooner, none of this would have happened.”
“But…!”
However, I was too preoccupied trying to resist the urge to wrap my arms around his neck and kiss him back to even think about agreeing to anything!
…Of course, saying that would be tantamount to admitting I already liked him, so I kept my mouth shut.
“But?”
“…Never mind. Let’s just go.”

“This time, I’ll do it. Reinhardt, stay still.”
Standing face to face with Reinhardt near the barrier, I pulled him close by the neck and kissed him, just as he had done to me. Even though it probably meant nothing to him, I put a bit of vengeful force into the kiss, parting his lips and breathing into his mouth.
When I pulled away, I was surprised to see his ears bright red. He even avoided my gaze as if embarrassed!
“Now, do you understand how I felt?”
I teased, reaching for his hand before thinking better of it. Holding hands would probably only make me feel giddy, so I settled for taking his sleeve and pulling him toward the barrier as usual.
“You can breathe now.”
“…So that’s how it felt.”
Reinhardt finally exhaled as we passed through the barrier. A wave of satisfaction washed over me, but I forced myself to maintain a haughty air.
“You kissed me first, remember? Why are you acting so surprised?”
“And you acted so flustered every time I kissed you. Why was that?”
He knew exactly why! How could he tease me like this after kissing me so relentlessly?

In this battle of who gets more embarrassed, I had been utterly defeated. As I struggled to hide my burning face, a chorus of voices erupted.
“Irowel!”
“Irowel is heeere!”
The squishies bounced towards me, throwing their soft bodies against mine. My embarrassment vanished in an instant.
My sweet squishies! Thank goodness you’re safe!
“Irowel. Missed you.”
“Yeah. Missed you!”
“ Reinhardt is here too.”
“Hi, Reinhardt.”
“Uh. Hi.”
Reinhardt awkwardly raised a hand in greeting. The vanquisher of the Tartars exchanged pleasantries with the Tartars themselves. It was a heartwarmingly bizarre sight.
“I missed you too, my cuties.”
I hugged the squishies tightly and then looked around.
“Did any other humans come through the barrier beside us?”
“Nope. None.”
“Yeah. None.”
“What about Larboris?”
“Brother’s over there.”
“Brother! Irowel’s here!”
The squishies pointed towards Larboris, who sat with a sullen expression, looking slightly older than before.
“Larboris, why the long face?”
“Maybe he’s sulking because Irowel took so long to get here. He missed her.”
