Marriage with a Suspiciously Demure Husband - Chapter 98.2
Chapter 98.2
I didn’t want to ruin my mood when I came out to enjoy myself.
“Good luck charms! Carry them with you like an amulet, and good luck will come your way!”
‘Good luck?’
A man with messy, half-tied-up hair was selling all sorts of miscellaneous items. I headed toward him, hoping for a change of pace.
When I approached, the man laughed cheerfully and told me to take my time browsing. There were colorful bracelets woven with gemstones, long tassels that would suit a sword belt, and wooden ornaments engraved with unknown symbols.
‘Good luck, huh.’
“See anything you like?”
“Just looking.”
Neither Kairos nor I liked flashy things, so we didn’t wear bracelets or anything like that, so they seemed unnecessary. The wooden ornaments were a bit too big to carry around. They were a bit clunky, too.
I glanced at the sword at Kairos’s waist.
‘The sword belt ornament might be alright.’
It was supposed to bring good luck.
“….”
I thought about getting him a gift but quickly came to my senses. I stopped my hand from reaching for the tassel. I quickly dismissed the thought, afraid Kairos might get the wrong idea if I gave him a gift on a whim. I didn’t want to add to the confusion.
“…I’ll buy it next time.”
Even though the merchant looked disappointed, I left even more hurriedly than before. That strange gaze followed me throughout my time in the village. I looked around several times but couldn’t find the source.
On the way back, I thought I saw a suspicious person, but they were wearing a deep robe, so I couldn’t see their face.
‘There are guards around, and if there were any danger, Kairos would have noticed it first. Maybe I’m just worrying over nothing.’
I stared at the spot where the suspicious person had disappeared for a moment before heading home.

The ball was held ten days later. Once I’d set my mind to it, it wasn’t difficult. Mrs. Tene handled most of the preparations, and I sent out invitations to the nobles of the territory. Since I only had to do such simple tasks, I didn’t have to be too busy.
‘It’s strange how little I have to do. Kairos must have done something, but there’s no proof again.’
Still, I diligently checked the food to be served and kept myself busy.
“Hizan, could you help me get ready? It’s alright to be a little more extravagant today.”
“How about something with a bit of fur? It’s not cold inside, but just as an adornment.”
“That sounds good.”
Winter was coming early in the North. It was a bit strange to say winter was coming since the four seasons weren’t distinct here and it was generally cold, but as December approached, the air definitely felt colder.
When I opened the window in the morning, I could already smell winter. It wouldn’t be surprising if it snowed. There had been two monster intrusions and hunts in the meantime.
I heard that three follower beasts appeared at once.
Perhaps worried about me going out, Kairos only told me late in the evening after he had dealt with them. Usually, one follower beast led several other beasts, but three appeared at once.
‘One of them kept muttering something incomprehensible before it died. Something like, “Found it, must find it.”’
Unlike last year, with the lord firmly in place, the atmosphere in the territory had been good so far, but if this continued, people would start to feel uneasy. That’s why I had to make the ball perfect.
“Something feels missing…”
“It couldn’t be any better.”
Mrs. Tene had said she would bring tea, but it was Kairos who entered the bedroom.
“Well, it’s like you did everything yoursel—”
I turned my head and came face to face with Kairos. I was momentarily stunned by his appearance, dressed to the nines.
‘Oh, right. He’s exactly my type.’
He was absolutely perfect…! I thought I’d become immune to his looks, but I was wrong.
‘These eyes! Eyes! Eyes! I wish I could control my eyes that react to his looks.’
He was perfectly dressed, but other than his eyes, everything was monochrome, so how could it suit him so well…?
‘He didn’t purposely sweep his bangs back because I like it, did he?’
All sorts of thoughts ran through my head.
“Hazel?”
“Ahem, you’re, you’re well dressed.”
As if seizing the opportunity to tease me, Kairos gave a playful smile.
“Does my wife approve?”
“Well, it’s, it’s passable.”
As I averted my gaze, I heard laughter beside me.
“Passable enough to stand next to me?”
He was practically shoving his face in front of mine. He must be doing this on purpose, knowing I’m weak to his face.
‘His face is truly poison.’
“Of course it’s… ugh, really. Go away.”
Annoyed, I balled my fist and poked him in the side. Kairos’s laughter grew louder.
‘Ugh, so annoying.’
