Marriage with a Suspiciously Demure Husband - Chapter 111.2
Chapter 111.2
Kairos spoke hurriedly, as if trying to gather spilled water. He kept interrupting me, as if he would never hear my answer.
“So you don’t have to answer now. I know what you’re thinking. I wish I could just pretend I never said anything that day…”
“Kairos!”
I cupped his cheeks in my hands. His eyes flickered, then closed completely.
“Hazel, please, later…”
I stood on tiptoe and kissed his lips. Kairos’s eyes flew open in surprise.
“I’m not leaving.”
“…What?”
“I’m not leaving.”
Kairos’s face was a strange mixture of emotions—neither a smile nor a frown. His eyes were a little redder than usual, slightly glazed with tears.
“That’s what I wanted to say.”
As I smiled, Kairos let out a deep breath, as if he’d been holding it for a long time.
“…Is this a dream?”
“Does it feel like a dream?”
“I don’t know. I don’t know what I just heard.”
He heard me, yet he pretended not to. I decided to let it slide, just this once.
“I’m not leaving you, not even in a year. And I think… I think I still love you. That’s why I came here. It’s sudden, but I thought it was better to say it now.”
In that instant, Kairos pulled me tightly into his arms, his hands gripping my waist. Our scents mingled, overwhelming us. I reveled in the surging joy, unwilling to let go of the moment.
As if we were the only two people in the world. Pushing him away now seemed ridiculous, but knowing how precious he was to me, I couldn’t help myself. I wasn’t sure when I could tell him about what I’d learned from Mrs. Tene today. But I was going to protect him.
“Are you still confused?”
“No. Tell me you love me… Tell me anything.”
“…I love you.”
How long had it been since I’d said those words to him and truly meant them? It had only been a few months, but it felt like a lifetime ago.
Holding me closer, Kairos said.
“I won’t let you regret this decision.”
“…You already haven’t.”
“I’ll do better. I’ll do anything you like, anything you ask.” He continued, like a child unable to contain his joy.
“I won’t let my pride get in the way anymore.”
“It’s okay. Whatever you do, I’ll like it.”
“What does that even mean?”
“I’ll just… I’ll take care of everything. Day and night, I’ll do my best.”
Lost in the joy, I paused, pushing lightly against his chest.
“Wait, something feels strange. Is it just me?”
“Yes, it’s just you.”
His words were so absurd that I burst out laughing. I cupped his cheeks, stood on my tiptoes, and kissed him again briefly, then turned and ran. Suddenly, I felt shy, but I didn’t get far before he caught me.
“Why?”
I asked, feigning annoyance.
“You can’t just leave like that.”
“…Like what?”
“After making my heart explode.”
“I didn’t do anything.”
I struggled to escape his embrace, but he only held me tighter. I wasn’t sure when I would be able to tell him everything I’d heard today… but at least one thing was resolved, and I felt a sense of peace.

“Someone get me some eggs!”
“Kevin just went to the chicken coop!”
The kitchen was bustling. Everyone was rushing around, preparing dinner.
“We’re out of cream! Have someone go to Rouse and get more!”
“I’ll go!”
“Thanks, Angela!”
Angela, her brown hair neatly tied up, headed for the back door with a cream pitcher.
“Hmm, I’m so glad the Master and Madam are in good spirits today.”
Their relationship fluctuated, so they always had to gauge their moods. Usually, the Master prepared Madam’s dinner himself, but today, they were so lovey-dovey that they’d left dinner entirely to the staff.
The delighted chef had prepared three times the usual amount of food, and they were quickly running out of ingredients.
“Still, this is nice.”
Angela couldn’t shake the pleasant premonition that peace had finally arrived.
“Hey.”
A soft voice called from behind her.
“Yes?”
As Angela turned, a small hand reached out and grabbed her face.
Angela’s body crumpled to the floor. The woman, her face hidden by a deep-set hooded robe, scoffed and nudged Angela’s limp form with her foot.
“This will do nicely.”
She looked up at the Duke’s castle.
“Double and triple-layered defenses. Makes it difficult to enter.”
A pleased smile curved her lips.
A strong gust of wind partially dislodged her hood. Oh well, it didn’t matter now that I’ve succeeded.
Lemon-colored hair streamed in the wind.
