Side Story 19

Translator: Yonnee

—

It has been eight years since Adela was born.

In that time, Adela gained a younger sibling. Now, an 11-month-old baby boy.

“Did you sleep well, Joos?”

I called Joos’s name as I held him in my arms.

Joos giggled, seemingly recognizing his name.

Ever since I was first pregnant with Joos—pronounced as ‘yoos’—Albert had wanted to give him a name that included part of mine.

Yoo Jung-in.

He was adamant about continuing the legacy of a name well-known even among the people here, and after much thought, we decided on this name.

Our baby, who had Albert’s gray hair and my black eyes, had a gentle look that resembled me.

When his eyes were wide open, he strangely reminded me of Albert, and when he smiled brightly, he looked more like me.

His chubby cheeks were incredibly adorable, and he was a really calm baby.

Just like with Adela, the labor was short, and afterward, he remained as peaceful as he had seemed at first.

He slept and ate well, transitioning smoothly from baby food to toddler food.

Three times a day, Adela, Albert, and I took turns feeding him.

“Bwah…”

Joos moved his little hands while looking at me.

After feeding, we played together until he fell asleep, allowing me to handle my duties in the meantime.

“When did you grow up so much?”

I laughed as I watched Joos, who still looked half-asleep.

Joos had grown a lot in no time.

Children always seem to grow up magically fast.

Seeing him like this reminded me of Adela’s early years.

I was so surprised when she revived everyone’s memories.

Thanks to that, my relationship with Mercy also returned to how it was before.

However, I was always worried that Adela’s immense power might be too much for her or cause problems.

But contrary to my concerns, Adela grew up to be a thoughtful and cheerful child.

Albert’s help played a big role.

After I got pregnant with Joos, he diligently studied how to raise a child. His dedication was almost like that of a student preparing for exams.

He would return late from work, and instead of sleeping, he would spend time reading about parenting and how to be a good parent.

“I don’t want to repeat even the smallest of the mistakes my parents made. That’s why I have to try.”

That was what he said one day when I suggested he should get some sleep.

Unlike Adela, Joos was an ordinary person with no magical powers.

“So, maybe that makes me more curious, Joos.”

Will you resemble me, or will you resemble Albert?

I thought to myself and then shook my head.

No. Rather, no matter what you are like, you will always be loved.

Just having you here with us is a great blessing.

“Whatever path you choose, Albert and I will support you, Joos.”

Joos smiled brightly again, as if he understood my words.

“Momma!”

The door burst open, and Adela and Blanc appeared. Blanc was walking slowly from a distance, while Adela sped up and reached me in an instant.

“Joos, it’s your big sister.”

I bent my knees to Adela’s eye level, and she eagerly welcomed Joos.

“I washed my hands before coming in. I also took a bath.”

Adela said, looking at me as if expecting praise.

“Well done.”

I patted Adela’s head. As I bent down to meet Adela’s gaze, she awkwardly held Joos.

When I gently passed Joos to Adela, she skillfully took him into her arms.

I could feel a bit of magic being used, showing her determination not to make even the slightest mistake while holding her brother.

“Joos, Joos. Grow up quickly so we can play together.”

“Baaah!”

Joos, realizing Adela was there, reached his hands towards her as well.

Even before Joos was born, Adela had been filled with anticipation for her new sibling.

Watching her study about babies with Albert had filled me with such pride.

“Oh, right. Momma. I have a gift for you.”

Adela, who had been smiling brightly at Joos, suddenly looked up with a serious expression.

What could it be?
