It’s not entirely false that he needed to be comforted.
Even after reuniting and spending several nights together, unease still gnawed at Albert’s composure.
He knew well how much Jung-in cherished him.
Her attempts to understand his words and actions, being conscious of his anxiety, were undeniably endearing.
But he was aware. Apart from Jung-in’s feelings and actions, a monster had taken residence in his own heart during her absence.
For a week, they endlessly became one, night and day, possessing and being possessed.
They saw and beheld each other in the most primal human form.
Yet, the thirst remained.
Like a desert that remains barren despite absorbing every drop of water, like a basket with a hole that never fills, there was a deep emptiness within him.
Their separations due to Jung-in’s trials had happened twice.
Each departure marked a significant turning point in Albert’s life. Each time she left, his world turned upside down.
Jung-in was the typhoon that swept through his life. He wouldn’t have been able to continue living without having changed.
The feelings experienced during their separations were vividly etched in his memory, tightening around his throat.
Loss and despair. And the unavoidable sense of betrayal, despite knowing it wasn’t her fault.
As he was lost in thought, Jung-in’s voice pierced his reverie.
“I’ll sleep here tonight. Let’s think more about sharing a room.”
Her gentle pat on his back resonated with him. Albert bit his lip.
What am I to do with you.
His heart was filled with emotions, sometimes manifesting as anxiety or as thirst.
Sometimes as desire—as possessiveness—and at times, a cruel wish to destroy everything around her.
Even if he already had her, it seemed insufficient. His hunger would persist even if she stayed by his side for a lifetime.
Observing the change in Jung-in’s expression, Albert wrapped his arms around her waist and slid his hands behind her knees.
Effortlessly lifting Jung-in into his arms, he began walking.
“No— Let me down!”
Jung-in’s struggles were futile against him.
Albert feigned pain, slightly recoiling as he received her feather-like punches.
Even this was a form of contact, so it wasn’t too bad in his opinion.
“You look pale, so I thought a bath would be good. The tub here is much larger and nicer than the one in the tower.”
Her protesting voice fell silent, her lips tightly shut.
He had hit the nail on the head with his suggestion. Her face lit up with interest.
“A bath is fine, but I can walk perfectly well as an adult, so please put me down.”
“Do you dislike it?”
Jung-in shook her head and honestly replied.
“I’m just worried I might feel heavy after eating so much. You know, it’s human nature to want to appear perfect in front of the person you like.”
How could every word she speaks be so lovely? Albert smiled and continued walking.
In the bathroom, Albert set her down right in front of the luxurious tub.
“There.”
“This is one place where I really can’t win against you.”
Jung-in grumbled softly as she stepped out of his embrace, but she didn’t forget to quietly thank him.
The marble tub exuded elegance, perfectly complementing the white marble and silver fixtures adorned with pearls.
As Jung-in marveled at the tub, she turned her head.
“But where are the maids? I want to ask about filling the tub and the oils to use.”
The answer was obvious. Albert gestured to himself.
“I’m right here.”
“…You can’t be serious. How could I make Your Imperial Majesty do something like this? Even I have some shame left in me.”
“That’s why it’s worth more. I only do this for you.”
“We don’t have time for this. Didn’t you say you had to meet Mercy earlier?”
“The meeting is in three hours.”
He responded lightly as he passed Jung-in to turn on the tap. Warm water began to fill the tub.
As he adjusted the tap, the flow of water became stronger, steam rising from the nearly scalding water.
Confirming the water level, Albert began to remove his jacket and unbutton his tightly fastened shirt.
“And I’m tired, too.”
“…You can’t be serious.”
Jung-in looked at him suspiciously, but he made no attempt to deny it.
Albert’s eyes curved up into crescent moons.
“The bathtub is large enough for two people, and then some.”
As her face often flushed throughout the day, her reactions truly never grew old.
