It's Not Night - Chapter 210.2
I caught a glimpse of curious greed in my sister’s eyes.
Here we go again. I frowned. It seemed that unless I joined in with her play, Basham wouldn’t tell me where Anat was.
Reluctantly, I got up from the darkness where I had been standing.
[What are you planning this time? Be careful not to anger Mother. This world was particularly created with her attention… ]
[Mother won’t care. She won’t touch this world. So I ask, my sister. Aren’t you curious? What will I do?]
[Whatever you do, make sure it doesn’t affect me.]
As soon as I finished speaking, Basham bent backward and laughed loudly. She mocked me, asking if I really thought that made sense. I had expected as much. However, her voice was so loud that in the end, I had to cover my ears.
[Nera! You’re joking! How could there be no consequences with you? You must know that wherever you go, the haze of conflict follows!]
[It’s just what I said.]
[Ha, still funny. Anyway, let’s go. We can’t waste any time.]
Basham led me to a place where the gods of the earth and sky resided. Why here?I asked, and Basham placed her finger to her lips, making a ‘shh’ sound.
[Look closely, Nera.]
Basham giggled and began to imbue something into the two gods. Something flew with the wind and quickly seeped into them in the blink of an eye.
[You two!]
It was at that moment. The god of the sky saw us and yelled. The god of the earth also turned their head to stare at us.
We were caught! Basham grabbed my wrist and, pulling me away, started running to avoid them.
I, on the other hand, kept trying to glance back, drawn by the strange scent of greed that seemed to flow from Basham. What could be happening to those two gods? Basham, laughing with her shoulders shaking, looked the happiest I’d ever seen her.
I eagerly devoured the fragments of the pieces that flowed from her.
Hmm, delicious.
* * *
It didn’t take long to figure out what Basham had done to the two gods, as Anat soon came to find us.
Anat was unusually angry at Basham. However, Basham seemed to pay no attention to her sister’s words.
Eventually, Basham lay sprawled on the floor and asked.
[Where’s Mother?]
[Mother…]
[See, I told you. Mother doesn’t even care.]
[Still, Basham, don’t you feel bad for the two sisters?]
Having stopped her outburst, Anat now asked Basham in a softer voice. Basham shrugged and gave her a look as if she didn’t care. This caused Anat to sigh deeply.
For a moment, I noticed fragments of conflict forming in my sister before they quickly retracted.
[My sister. Because of you, the Earth and Sky are now bound together. This is… absurd.]
[Anat, you’re the one who told me the ninth sister would be born. And Mother didn’t reprimand me because she knew about all of this from the beginning.]
Suddenly, Anat’s expression became serious. It seemed she had caught the hidden meaning behind Basham’s words.
[You really know one thing, but don’t understand the other.]
As Basham chuckled, Anat’s gaze shifted to me. I smiled gently at my sister.
[I just followed Basham. I didn’t do anything. So, could you stop looking at me like that?]
It wasn’t a lie. I hadn’t done anything. Although I had joined in with Basham’s mischief, it wasn’t me who started this game.
If Anat had read my thoughts, she probably would’ve gotten angry, but, well, sisters can’t read my mind.
I’m sorry, Anat. But what could I do? You haven’t been playing with me lately.
I tried to calm my own feelings of disappointment and, for the first time in a while, I clung to Anat and begged her to play with me.
[Ah, she’s born. Our ninth sister.]
After a while, Basham sat up suddenly and spoke. In truth, we could all feel it even without her saying it.
The moment our other sister was born. All of us gods, except for mother, were interconnected.
[Finally, the world is moving. It’s full of such interesting things.]
As the ten gods breathed life into the world, it began to slowly turn.
We were busy watching the world move for a while, because even when we briefly looked away, the creations Mother had made quickly changed into new forms.
Though much time passed, there was no boredom. The voices of the fragments and byproducts came crashing in like waves, and I was completely entranced. The new flavors I had longed for were now scattered across the entire world.
