It's Not Night - Chapter 177.2
Nera looked down, tears streaming down her cheeks, turning into dazzling jewels as they hit the ground. The jewels lay piled around her feet, signifying just how long she had been weeping.
She didn’t know when she had started crying, but the scattered gems indicated their age.
Someone approached Nera.
“Everything has ended.”
“Mother.”
The Primordial God still gazed down at the green earth, her eyes calm and steady.
“Should we not now yield to the child’s will?”
Nera remained silent. But her mother, the Primordial God, did not chastise her. As eons for humans and mere moments for gods passed, Nera finally spoke.
“Great Primordial God, humans will continue to harm each other and ruin this world. Why entrust them with it?”
“My daughter.”
“These foolish beings will forget us and audaciously attempt to ascend to our places. They will be playing God themselves. They are ignorant and greedy, too precious this world is to hand over to such beings.”
“That is why you also existed, is it not?”
At the Primordial God’s words, Nera turned to face her mother.
“Mother, I…”
“Those foolish and greedy ones have, after all, completed all the tasks and passed the gates. It is time to acknowledge that your sister’s vision was not mistaken. You know it yourself.”
The Primordial God was right. As a god of wisdom and ideals, her sister saw potential in humanity, who were capable of realizing these ideals. They had solved the tasks set by the eight gods and endured the trials. And just moments ago, humans had earned a new opportunity to start anew.
“Though with the help of that child, they have also passed your final test. I know your heart, child, but there is a time to step back.”
“It’s too foolish. All this for those trivial beings…”
The Primordial God quietly watched as Nera spoke pleadingly, the tears flowing freely.
“I will miss Anat too much. My sister, our Anat. The thought of never seeing her again torments me. Mother, I didn’t want to lose my sister. She is meant to be with us forever.”
“You are greedy.”
The Primordial God said with a perceptive smile as she saw through Nera’s nature.
“Mother, I still don’t understand. Why? Why do those foolish beings matter so much? They are irreverent, yet Anat sacrificed herself for their salvation. Why?”
“You already know the answer, yet you ask again. You are still honest and direct.”
It was true. Nera knew the answer yet couldn’t let go of her obsession, a true manifestation of her role as the goddess of greed and conflict. The Primordial God crouched to meet her daughter’s gaze.
Even a god can be an unstable entity. That’s why the Primordial God loved all her daughters.
“This outcome too was chosen by wisdom and ideals. It’s time for us to step back. My child, my daughter, do not deny it.”
The Primordial God’s voice was calm. She tenderly advised her last daughter who was still here.
“Now do what must be done. Isn’t it time to conclude? Your other sisters are waiting.”
With that, Nera conjured three small orbs of light in the air, inserting one into the shattered egg. The egg restored itself to its original form.
Nera watched the egg for a moment before approaching the unrestful dragon, infusing it with the fire that was both its life and essence.
As the dragon received the gift of life, its yellow eyes sparkled to life.
[“Mother of All!”]
The rejuvenated dragon bounced around joyfully.
[“It’s been a while, Lady Nera!”]
Nera handed the egg to the dragon. The dragon clumsily took it and looked up at her in awe.
“My child, I entrust this world to you.”
[“How can I…”]
“Please, carry on Anat’s will.”
The dragon looked down at the egg. A new life was stirring within. Yet the familiar sensation startled the dragon, causing it to glance back up at Nera and the Primordial God in alarm. The Primordial God merely smiled.
Nera brought the last two orbs of light before her. She kissed one of them lightly.
“A child resembling my sister, as promised, I will restore everything to its original state.”
May you truly find happiness.
The two orbs of light moved to their rightful places. Nera watched for a moment and then stepped back. The Primordial God then reached out towards the world.
It was the moment when another world gained independence from God.
