The reason Adeline became Sien’s maid was because he was the one who bought her at the slave market. If it hadn’t been Sien who purchased her back then, she would have been sold off without a doubt to some noble with a perverse kink.
Of course, this place wasn’t exactly normal either, but compared to being sold to a pervert, it was the better option.
At the very least, her master Sien, who bought her, hadn’t made her into a plaything for his desires.
In other words, no matter how filthy his personality was, or how much of an untouchable madman he was, to Adeline, Sien was the benefactor who gave her a job and the strength to keep living.
But dying… Now, that’s a different story…
Adeline’s face instantly turned pale.
What she feared most in the world was dying at Sien’s hands, not anyone else’s.
The terror she’d stuffed into the corner of her memory resurfaced, creeping up from her toes and threatening to strangle her whole body.
But even this was blocked by Adeline’s loyalty.
‘…Still, the Young Master needs the saintess.’
From Adeline’s perspective, her best hope of not becoming just another maid to be killed was to hope that the two wouldn’t fall in love.
Over the past three years though, Adeline had seen Sien suffer countless times because of his magic.
He was her precious master, and she sincerely wished he wouldn’t be in pain anymore.
So, after a brief inner struggle, Adeline finally reached a conclusion.
Not to interfere with the original work.
‘When the time comes, if the Young Master really does imprison the saintess like in the original, I’ll just leave the mansion.’
Until then, as Sien’s loyal maid, she intended to do her utmost to help him win the saintess.
‘I’ll do my best, so please consider that as paying off my debt for being saved from the slave market.’
Quitting her job as a maid would be something for after that.
Lifting her head to look up at the sky, Adeline soon returned to her usual expressionless face and decided to think about what lay ahead.
‘Then I’ll have a chance to meet the saintess too, right?’
She couldn’t help but want to see her at least once, since the novel described her as so beautiful and holy, regardless of Sien.
“Adeline.”
Still, since he was one of the main male leads, the day would come soon when Sien and Claire would meet. That meant she would get to see Claire as well.
Sien always took Adeline with him wherever he went.
It was rare for someone who wasn’t a noble lady-in-waiting or a male attendant, but a maid, to be taken everywhere, yet Sien was a man who made a habit of this daily.
He took her literally everywhere, to the point where he would even bring her outside the Empire, where monsters roamed.
People who didn’t know that he had no interest in women would think Sien kept his maid close at hand because he intended to lay hands on her sooner or later.
Naturally, this meant rumors about the two followed as a matter of course.
However, there was not a single person in the Empire who dared to utter such rumors in Sien’s presence.
On the other hand, as someone who was directly involved, Adeline would occasionally hear them, but she was the type to let most things go in one ear and out the other.
Dealing with things this way hadn’t caused her any problems anyway.
…At least, until yesterday.
‘Wait, what if the saintess hears these rumors too?’
A small worry bloomed inside Adeline.
In the original, there hadn’t been any such rumors between Sien and his maid, but because she’d transmigrated into this body, these rumors suddenly sprang up out of nowhere.
If she’d known this would happen, she might have been more careful.
Of course, even if Adeline had been careful, nothing probably would have changed.
Sien was always someone who did whatever he pleased.
Even so, the reason Adeline was having these pointless worries was simple.
‘The saintess already hated the Young Master in the novel…’
The reason for that was obvious. Sien had tried to use the saintess’s holy power to purify his own poison.
Of all things, the method of purification wasn’t at all ordinary, so from Claire’s perspective, it was inevitable that she’d feel repulsed by Sien.
Because the method of purifying his magic was, quite literally, to have sex with her. The closer the contact, the more effective it was.
“Adeline.”
After Sien imprisoned Claire, he did it with her every day, so it was only natural she’d want to escape.
And because of that, innocent maids ended up dying.
There was no doubt that the killings weren’t just punishment, but also meant to force Claire to submit.
‘Ah, what do I do. I suddenly don’t feel like helping anymore…’
Adeline squeezed her eyes shut.
Imagining her own head rolling on the floor, gratitude and everything else vanished, and she just wanted to run away from the mansion.
