The place he guided me to was a small cafe a little away from Erhel’s central square. There were no private rooms, but since there were only a few customers, it wasn’t a bad place to have a quiet conversation with him.
What was interesting was that most of the customers were women.
“It’s a place I often visit when I come to the capital. Not many people come here.”
I nodded vaguely at his words and glanced around. For a moment, I felt like I made eye contact with a woman who had been glancing this way.
“Please, have a seat.”
“Ah, yes. Thank you.”
I thanked him with a nod as he pulled out the chair for me and then sat down. He took a seat across from me before opening his mouth.
“I thought about taking us to a place with private rooms, but I figured you might feel more uncomfortable being in an enclosed space with me.”
I awkwardly smiled, finding it hard to agree or disagree with his words. He seemed amused by the obvious emotions on my face as a smile played at the corners of his mouth. Perhaps because of that, the atmosphere wasn’t too bad. However, since this was only the second time I had met him, it was hard to start a conversation easily.
‘It might seem rude to get straight to the point.’
Just then, the waiter approached the table with the tea we ordered, and soon, the tea was placed in front of both him and me.
“Try it. It tastes quite good.”
“Oh, yes. Thank you.”
As I nodded to him and held the teacup, the subtle aroma of the tea calmed my complicated mind a little. I took a deep breath and slowly parted my lips.
“The reason I went to see His Highness the Duke today was to ask him to help me find someone.”
“A person?”
“Yes, I’m looking for someone who is knowledgeable in magic and medicine… Could you possibly help?”
His eyes narrowed at my words. After a moment of seeming to collect his thoughts, his gaze suddenly sharpened.
“Is it related to the Master of the Magic Tower?”
His pointed question made me grip my teacup tightly. At first, I wondered if I should deny it, but I soon changed my mind. Even if I denied it, it was a lie that would soon be found out anyway.
“I can’t say that it’s not.”
“Did he cast the spell on the Young Lady?”
When I nodded, he promptly asked as if he had been waiting. I blinked for a moment and then quickly shook my head.
“No, not me, but my maid.”
“By maid, do you mean the maid who was with you today?”
“Yes, that’s right. Lord Diel used petrification magic on my maid. That’s why I’m looking for someone. I want to make sure that there aren’t any lingering effects from the petrification magic on Marie.”
Estieren’s blue eyes calmly met my gaze at my words as his long fingers tapped the teacup.
Growing anxious at his silence, I continued my words quickly.
“I know that it’s a high-level magic and that it’s not widely used yet, so there hasn’t been much research on it. However, I believe the Magic Tower should have some knowledge about it. I heard that once a spell is created, the Magic Tower must research and verify its stability.”

“So, if possible, could Your Highness find out if there are any wizards or healers who are researching petrification magic?”
Although I said this, I knew very well what an embarrassing request I was making. From the beginning, I came here with the intention of asking Allen to find someone, but I wasn’t entirely sure he could actually do it.
As I anxiously waited for an answer, Estieren, who had been quietly watching me, finally opened his firmly closed lips.

“Yes.”
My eyes widened in surprise at his nonchalant response. In fact, just hearing him say he would try was enough for me to consider it a success, yet I was both willing and doubtful of his confidence.
“Do you happen to know someone who is doing the research?”
He nodded briefly and then added with a hint of a smile on his face.
“Of course, even so, some preparations are necessary, so I’ll contact you again in three days.”
“T-Three days? Is that really enough?”
He smiled mischievously at my questioning gaze and replied.
“Didn’t I tell you, Young Lady?”
“….”
“My abilities are better than you might think.”
