With an unpleasant sensation as if something was regurgitating from my stomach, a metallic taste of blood lingered in my mouth.
Simultaneously, a searing pain radiated through my abdomen from the sharp blade. My body, which had struggled to keep up with the rapidly unfolding situation, faltered and collapsed onto the ground.

With each inhale and exhale, blood seeped from the wound inflicted by the blade in my abdomen. Despite walking on undoubtedly dirty soil, a child’s pristine feet came into view as I glanced downward.

Contrary to the questions swirling in my mind, I slowly raised my head as I retched and vomited blood again. Even though it was a dim alley, the face concealed beneath the robe wasn’t clearly visible, but I was certain.
The child before me was someone I had never crossed paths with throughout countless cycles of repeated lives… No, perhaps they weren’t even a human.

The voice coming from the child in the robe was eerie, yet not unfamiliar. Although the blood that flowed incessantly had now blurred my vision, in front of me, the system window blinked without respite.

Seeing the child nod calmly, anger welled up within me.
“No! I’m not doing it anymore. I don’t even know how many lives there are!”

Laden with bitterness towards an adversary who didn’t understand my situation, a voice tinged with a hint of complaint inadvertently slipped from my lips. However, despite the child’s tearful gaze directed towards me, there was no discernible response.

“That’s the only way to end this cruel life that’s been given to you.”
Amidst the fireworks illuminating the sky, heralding the finale of the festival, the surroundings briefly bathed in light, revealing the child’s visage tucked within the robe’s folds for the very first time.
Unlike the deep blue irises that seemed to encapsulate recordings of life, the child’s eyes held a resolute determination.
