Shal Tribe (2)

“Haa. My feet won’t step out.”

Declan let out a long sigh as he rested his forehead on my shoulder. Knowing how he felt, I gently caressed his broad back.

“Go with caution. Don’t worry about the children.”

“I can’t believe I have to leave at a time when it won’t be enough, even if I stay by your side all day.”

As he uttered so, his caress on my stomach was full of concern.

The Gemina Kingdom, which had been on the defensive after the Imperial Army was dispatched, barely survived the crisis. However, Shal’s resistance was more persistent than expected, and it ended up being a long-term battle.

In addition, Shal attacked the borders of the empire with guerrilla tactics against the allied forces, and Declan, who couldn’t bear to see it, had to step out himself.

“I wish I could come with you.”

“Where are you going this body?”

He straightened up with his words that popped out of concern.

“Still, His Holiness said he would go so I feel more at ease.”

As soon as the war broke out, the temples in the Gemina Kingdom had already dispatched priests to the battlefield. Though when Declan’s campaign was decided, the Pope sent a message that he would support along with the cardinals.

“I had a strong wife.”

“His Holiness is worried about you, too.”

“Me? It’s purely because of you.”

Declain twisted his lips while saying, “It’s not because of me. Still, it’s something to be thankful for. Because it helps a lot.”

Still, he acknowledged the Pope’s goodwill.

“I will be back before you give birth.”

“Don’t push yourself too hard.”

“I don’t want to leave you alone. I must see it when my child is born.”

His soft lips that touched my forehead calmed my anxiety a little.

“I’ll be waiting for you.”

Declan, who hugged me tightly once more, lightly mounted the horse. Behind him, knights in shining silver armor mounted their horses one after another. At the same time as the horn booming, the horses kicked off the ground, and the surroundings vibrated.

“Greetings, the sun of Burgundy, Your Majesty the Emperor. I am grateful that you have come to visit my abide.”

Seian, who was standing at the front of the soldiers, bowed to Declan and greeted him.

“You’re bothering me because you can’t deal with a young tribal chief.”

He gently rolled his eyes at Declan, who raised his eyebrows disapprovingly.

“I’m sorry. In the meantime, I’m busy trying to do my best to rebuild the kingdom.”

Declan’s brow furrowed at his words.

“That’s why you didn’t immediately respond to the request for support.”

“As the commander-in-chief representing the kingdom, I will definitely repay this favor.”

Watching Seian bow his head respectfully, Declan clicked his tongue slightly. Although he tried to take his anger out on an annoying situation, he always had a knack for making the other person a bad guy while smiling.

“I don’t need anything in return.”

Seian’s smile didn’t change despite the remarks that completely disregarded the Gemina kingdom.

“I will do my best to follow suit.”

As Seian replied calmly, Declan glanced at him. He immediately looked away indifferently and shouted at the people who met him.

“One week. Erase Shal’s traces from this land.”

Seian’s face, which had been smiling the whole time, cracked at the sudden remark.

This was also true of the people of the Gemina Kingdom. They all looked at Declan with their eyes wide open. Among them, only the imperial army was calm. As if they had expected it from the time they heard that Declan was going to war.

“Excuse me, Your Majesty. Wouldn’t a week be too much?”

Declan lowered his gaze arrogantly at Seian’s cautious question.

“It’s not even a proper country; it’s just one tribe, and that’s already a long time.”

Confidence overflowing all over his body matched him so well that everyone who was taken aback was nodding their heads.

“I’m very annoyed right now.”

Whether it was Knan or Knon, it wasn’t enough to chew on that b*stard.

Everyone in the vicinity groaned as the murderous intent erupted from Declan in an instant. Their body shuddered because it felt like they were being torn apart just by looking at those ferociously shining green eyes.

“Your Majesty, to keep the schedule in line, we’d better start right away with the strategy meeting.”

When Duke Castor, who was familiar with this situation, suggested it, Declan nodded and headed straight to the barracks. Seian, who barely managed to get himself together, and his advisors also followed. In the meanwhile, the Pope and the cardinals were waiting for Declan after he left the meeting.

“We’re a little late.”

The Pope, with a benevolent smile, approached Declan,

“I was just in a hurry. You must have had a hard time coming a long way.”

“No. Our savior is worried so much about you, so we need to alleviate that worry.”

“The Empress said that thanks to you, her heart is at ease.”

Normally, he wouldn’t have responded because he didn’t want to see the Pope act as Erica’s family. However, this time, their support was of great practical help, so he decided to be generous.

“Is that so? Thank goodness. This is something worthwhile.”

At the mention of Erica, the expression of the Pope, as well as the cardinals’ faces, instantly brightened.

“Take good care of the wounded until the war is over.”

“Leave it to us.”

* * *

A fully armed Declan mounted his horse, staring at the Shal’s army lined up in the opposite direction.

“Is that guy Knan?”

Declan asked, pointing to the man commanding the front of the enemy. The man, clad in animal fur and holding a greatsword, was impressive with black hair that was put up.

“Yes, even though he looks sleek, his strength is no laughing matter.”

“It means that if we catch him, it will be over.”

“You have to be careful. He’s quite clever. He knows how to use tactics.”

“Let’s see if he’s as clever.”

He snorted and glared sharply at Knan in the distance. It was because of that guy that he had to leave Erica alone, who would be having a hard time because of her heavy body. In addition, because of him, he may not be able to see his child being born.

As he faced the perpetrator’s face, his anger boiled like boiling lava.

“Emperor of the Empire! You finally showed up.”

Suddenly, Knan came to the middle between both armies and shouted loudly:

“I guess the murderer who made the continent tremble was also afraid of me? Seeing that he just showed up.”

Knan laughed out loud as he slung his greatsword over his shoulder. Declan’s eyes, on the other hand, were cold as he slowly drove his horse forward.

“Boy, if you go back like this, I’ll let you live.”

Judging from the reports that have come up so far, this war would be a long one. If left alone, it was obvious that it would continue even after his second child was born, so that was why he set out on his own since he didn’t want his child to be born in an uneasy and hideous atmosphere.

His child deserved the blessings of the whole continent. Furthermore, he didn’t want Erica, who was already physically struggling to care about the war.

Recalling the reason he had come this far, his anger towards that b*stard who wasted his time could not go away. Nonetheless, Declan quietly closed and opened his eyes, suppressing his anger. He had sworn not to wield his sword recklessly after God granted Erica to him.

“Ha, that’s not even funny. Who’s going to let who live?”

However, that one word from Knan broke Declan’s patience.

“It’s not a big deal to be proud after conquering Gemina. Even if it wasn’t for the imperial army, Gemina would have fallen into my hands a long time ago.”

“This, this barbarian!”

“How dare you mock the kingdom when you’re a mere tribe!”

The knights of Gemina Kingdom shouted in rage.

“If you silence that tribal chief, the kingdom will never forget that grace for generations.”

Seian, who had come to Declan’s side before long, smiled and opened his mouth. Still, he was also the one who ruled a country.

His eyes weren’t smiling.

“You don’t need the body?”

“If you give it to me, I will be grateful.”

“Well, I was going to give it as a gift for my child’s birth, but I’m going to be especially generous and make concessions for you.”

With his grim words, Seian lowered his head towards him.

“All troops, ready for battle”

At Declan’s cry, all the soldiers raised their weapons and increased their momentum. Upon realizing that, Knan’s eyes turned sharp in an instant.

“I will reap the skin of the toothless tiger.”

Exclaiming, he rode his horse back to his army. Taking that as a signal, Declan raised his hand and the archers stepped forward and fired their bows.

It was the beginning of a battle.

After watching the battle for a while, Declan looked at one place and quietly raised his sword. The soldiers felt the numbness in their bodies at the sight. They understood his will and paved the way.

“Survive on your own. Then, I’ll take his body.”

Leaving those words to Seian, Declan kicked his horse.

After a while, wherever he passed, the enemy soldiers fell like fallen leaves in an autumn wind, and the road was parted.

Seian, who was watching Declan’s back, trembled slightly as the memory of the past battles came back. Everyone began to act as if they had forgotten who Declan was before, saying that the Emperor had come to his senses. Nevertheless, he never forgot the fear and helplessness of that time.

…The crazy killer didn’t change.

He was just watching, by the master who gave him the leash. But still, he was ready to reveal his teeth to anyone who touched his master at any time.

Seian expressed condolences to Knan, who was brandishing a greatsword in front of him.

‘…The end of foolish things is always like that.’

Soon after, Seian turned around and did his part diligently, swinging his sword. Meanwhile, Declan, who ran to Knann’s location in an instant, twisted his mouth when he faced him.

“It’s too much for you to call me here.”

“I guess the rumors weren’t very false. Well, that much should be enough to raise this Knan’s reputation.”

Knan behaved leisurely as if he knew Declan would come after him.

“I don’t have time to accept a boy’s joke, so come on.”

As Declan crumpled his face in annoyance and raised his chin, Knan’s black eyes shimmered wildly.

“Boy? Yes, you should be beaten by a boy. It will be very embarrassing.”

Knan grinned, revealing his teeth, and charged, brandishing his greatsword.

Chaeng!

Declan sat atop his horse and leisurely slashed his sword.

“They say that your strength is no laughing matter, but it’s not a big deal.”

Seeing the motionless Declan, his eyes trembled.

“Then, now you are mine.”

Declan raised his momentum in earnest as though showing he had been generous until now, and soon, a green aura was applied to his sharp blade.

Seeing that, Knan’s eyes widened slightly.

“Ugh.”

A trail of green light resembling an aurora followed, and in an instant, Knan rolled off his horse. Simultaneously, Declan got off his horse and pressed on, not giving him time to get up. Even though Knan reflexively raised his sword to block his attack, it didn’t last long.

Compared to Declan, whose breath was not disturbed, Knan’s body was becoming tattered.

“Ha, because of such an insignificant bastard.”

Annoyed, Declan brushed his hair and fixed his sword. In the meanwhile, Knan staggered by the invisible fast and strong attack, as if it had been a joke up until now.

Tap.

His blow broke Knan’s seemingly unbreakable sword and the man fell, but still, the vivid irritation on his face did not go away. Concurrently, Shal’s forces began to falter at the fact that their chief had fallen. Declan took a deep breath to calm his desire to wipe them all out.

When the frightened ones ran away, only the evil ones remained to kill him.

A deep green aura rose again on his sword.

That day, Shal was wiped off the map.

Thanks to the war ending in less than a week, Declan was able to safely arrive in the Empire before Erica gave birth.
