If They Get Obsessed, I’m Doomed - Chapter 99
Chapter 50.2
She wondered if they had all gone to receive disciplinary action, but after thinking it over, that didn’t seem likely.
From what she had heard, although it wasn’t a common occurrence, the training grounds being destroyed happened often enough that it wasn’t grounds for punishment. Sudden sparring matches with weapons were also a frequent occurrence due to the nature of the advanced magic warfare class. Even if Skylar had targeted the crown prince, the circumstances made it difficult to place any blame on him.
The reason for this was that the crown prince had stepped down from the observation platform. Leaving the observation area in the middle of an ongoing duel essentially meant accepting the risk of getting caught in the fight. If he didn’t want that, he should have stayed safely in the viewing area.
So, if Devoncia had given him the opportunity, it would be hard to blame Skylar for what happened.
In the end, Skylar had cleverly seized the opportunity, creating a rebellion where he had nothing to lose, even if it ended in failure.
‘So that’s why Devoncia was so angry…’
Ariel recalled the moment when Devoncia, who always had the upper hand, was forced to move at Skylar’s pace. For the first time, a look of irritation had appeared on his face, usually dominated by nothing but a smile.
“…That was terrifying.”
As she remembered that moment, Ariel got goosebumps. She felt an unsettling chill and, rubbing her arms, instinctively huddled closer.
Devoncia was one thing, but Skylar was no easy opponent either. When he aimed his sword at his brother in the training grounds, there was no hesitation. It wasn’t an impulsive act driven by emotion. If anything, it was much colder, much more calculated than when he usually lost his temper. She had never seen Skylar go after Devoncia’s weak spots with words instead of outright grabbing him by the collar.
It was the first time she had witnessed it.
‘What does Skylar think about what happened earlier?’
She had a faint idea of what had triggered his sudden actions. He must have seen Devoncia chase her into the corridor. That was probably why he had barged through the passage, just as he had followed Lexius the day before.
“Does he want to confront me about it? Is he… expecting an explanation?”
She honestly didn’t know.
Just like before, Ariel had ended up being seen with Devoncia again. Though she had been caught while trying to escape, Skylar wouldn’t have known that. And yet, strangely, his opinion of her didn’t seem to change. Even when he saw her trapped by Devoncia, his gaze didn’t falter like it had at the imperial palace.
His gaze was completely consumed with hatred, fixated solely on Devoncia.
So, while Ariel might have been a trigger for what happened, she probably wasn’t the main cause.
Skylar had a deep-rooted trauma about losing things, especially to Devoncia. His hatred for him was something he never even tried to hide. Today’s incident could very well have been an explosion of all the resentment that had been building up inside him.
‘…Given how tense things are, would it be better to just avoid seeing him for a while?’
Ariel gave it some serious thought. While she was already keeping her distance, she wasn’t sure if she should distance herself even more or if things were fine the way they were. It was hard to tell which approach would be better for her plan.
Devoncia, who constantly tried to lure her in.
Skylar, angered by Devoncia’s actions.
Lexius, who found amusement in provoking both Devoncia and Skylar through his reactions.
And Racine, who had no interest in any of it.
The lineup seemed impossible for a balanced strategy from the start. No matter which option she chose, the other side was bound to get complicated.
Ariel hugged her knees and glanced down at her phone. Everyone was at the imperial palace, except for Racine, who seemed to be in class. There was no one she could realistically meet, and even if there was, she had no excuse or way to approach them.
‘It’s still early in the semester, and just adjusting to everything is exhausting. Maybe I should take a break from all this for a bit…’
After all, she couldn’t strategize properly without first getting adjusted to the environment.
Just as Ariel was about to stand up, the system window on her phone suddenly changed.
『 A target has been detected nearby. 』
『 Skylar von Aither Lévretin
▷ Favorability towards you: ♥♥ (He’s strongly conscious of you and will often initiate conversations with you first.)
▷ Current Location: Academy Main Gate 』
Skylar’s location had changed.
Ariel stopped herself from standing and gazed at his moving portrait, almost entranced.
His location kept updating in real time as he was getting closer and closer. His portrait on the screen was moving toward her at an alarming speed.
The distance between them had closed to just a few dozen meters. Ariel quickly slipped her phone into the pocket of her school skirt and focused her gaze on the garden.
Skylar stepped out of the black car that had stopped nearby. He didn’t notice Ariel sitting under the tree as he stood, staring at the dormitory building. Then, slowly, he turned his head and scanned the garden. It didn’t take long before his gaze landed on her.
His blue eyes widened in surprise.
When he saw her crouched under the tree, he approached her, clearly taken aback. The urgency in his brisk steps was evident.
“Why are you sitting like this? Are you hurt?”
His first words were filled with concern. There was a look in his eyes that could almost be described as affection. Feeling uncomfortable with the attention, Ariel instinctively averted her gaze, lowering her head.
“I’m okay. What about you?”
Skylar looked like he wanted to frown at Ariel, who had lowered her head, but stopped himself. The simple concern in her brief question, ‘What about you?’ caught him off guard and made him so unexpectedly happy that he was left speechless.
“You’re not hurt? Are you really okay?”
Still hugging her knees, she continued to speak softly, her voice clearly filled with concern for him.
In that moment, something inside Skylar surged uncontrollably. The heat of it spread rapidly through his chest, making it hard to breathe.
Struggling to contain his rising emotions, he spoke in a low, quiet voice.
“You can see for yourself.”
“….”
“Look at me, Ariel.”
After repeating it twice, Ariel finally raised her head. Her pale face, partially framed by the soft waves of her black hair, turned toward him. Her dark, gleaming eyes locked onto his.
“You seem fine, but…”
Ariel smiled awkwardly. It looked like an apologetic one, with a hint of sympathy.
Skylar reached out toward her smiling face. His fingers, trembling slightly, carefully pushed aside the hair that had stuck to her cheek. The unease in his movements rippled through her hair, lightly brushing her skin, carrying the faint tremor of emotion he couldn’t hide.
She couldn’t help but notice something was off about Skylar.
‘What’s going on with him?’
She stared at him, curiosity flickering in her gaze.
Bzzz—
Her phone vibrated from inside her skirt pocket.
『 Favorability rating has increased. 』
『 Skylar von Aither Lévretin
▷ Favorability towards you: ♥♥♡ (He thinks about you often. He occasionally follows you around.) 』
