If They Get Obsessed, I’m Doomed - Chapter 63
Chapter 32.2
“All students, dismissed!”
The Crown Prince’s aide ordered the dispersal and only then did the students form lines in unison and leave the auditorium.
The doors leading out were also strictly divided according to rank.
Ariel walked alone, not belonging anywhere.
Most of the student body hesitated to associate with her, given her status as a transfer student. They cleared a path for her, stepping aside. Even the young lady who had shared a conversation with her earlier at the adjacent seat awkwardly showed a forced smile before hastily scurrying away.
After leaving the auditorium, Ariel walked through the corridors alone.
‘If this is the case, I won’t have any friends, and there won’t be anyone to talk to…’
It was a sad premonition. Although she hadn’t necessarily come to the academy to make friends, she had hoped to meet someone who wouldn’t make her feel overwhelmed when she met them. She didn’t want to spend the entire three years surrounded by targets who had aggressive and dominating personalities.
After all, three years was quite a long time to live like that.
Ariel paused in front of a door leading outside, passing through a wall adorned with stained glass. She didn’t want to leave the quiet space. For some reason, she felt like another troublesome situation was about to unfold, and she wanted a moment to catch her breath.
However, it was impossible.
“Ariel Huckley, right?”
The voice from behind sounded refreshingly eerie. It felt impossible for those two words to coexist, yet that was how that person approached her.
“Young Lady Huckley, Young Lady Chappelle is calling for you.”
As Ariel stood frozen, facing forward, a stern voice reprimanded the person who spoke to her.
“Don’t speak like that. She’s a transfer student who received special treatment from His Highness the Prince, so shouldn’t you treat her with more respect?”
“I apologize, Young Lady.”
“Make sure not to make the same mistake next time.”
The woman reprimanded her attendant before quickly turning to Ariel.
“Ariel, would you come over here?”
Having no corner to escape to, she turned silently to face Princess Chappelle.
The woman with lush chestnut hair wore a mask-like smile. Even though the person in front of her didn’t seem friendly, there was no apparent hostility either. At least, that was how Ariel felt.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Your Highness Chappelle.”
She bowed politely. As soon as she mentioned the title mentioned in the regulations, the woman’s eyes lit up with satisfaction, and her lips curved into a pleased smile.
“What a truly beautiful face. You’re certainly worthy of His Highness the Prince’s attention.”
Anastasia evaluated her as a pretty doll as if that were her only merit.
Although it was a treatment that could be upsetting, Ariel responded calmly. Being treated like a doll didn’t bother her much. Lexius had treated her similarly… no, he had been even more explicit, so it didn’t feel particularly unpleasant.
“Well, let’s put that aside for now.”
“….”
“You’ve been called by His Highness. It’s a great honor, isn’t it? Now, follow me quickly.”
As the Princess brushed past Ariel and headed towards the door, the attendant immediately followed her and unfolded a parasol. Ariel didn’t seem to have a choice. There was no corner to refuse when the Crown Prince called, so she reluctantly followed Princess Chappelle.
‘Her name is… Anastasia Chappelle.’
She thought it was a pretty name. The other one’s name was Blanche Mellor… wasn’t it? Ariel also thought that name beautiful.
If she couldn’t fit in with regular students, what if she tried to fit in with these people?
Sometimes, she hoped to have conversations with them. Still, becoming friends with someone whose name she couldn’t even address seemed impossible. It felt impossible for her to ever get close to Anastasia due to the staggering gap in social status she keenly felt today.
Ariel watched her white school uniform, stark against the surroundings, slowly fluttering as she trailed behind her with meandering steps.
Anastasia walked a few meters and stopped in the shade of a cedar tree.
It was the front of a convertible with no roof. Seated in the far right and highest position of the spacious backseat was a man of noble stature, resembling a masterpiece. As his profile, facing the front, gently turned to look at Ariel, his heterochromia eyes distinctly revealed a strong presence even in the dim shadow.
“You’ve brought her well.”
“Of course. Whose orders am I following?”
In response to the Crown Prince’s light praise, she politely clasped her hands together and shyly replied. Anastasia, who openly expressed her emotions and seemed unsure of what to do, seemed very endearing. However, the Crown Prince had no interest in her. He looked beyond her and sent a smiling glance towards Ariel.
Seeing that, she politely bowed and avoided his eyes. Given the immediate situation, it was awkward to face him. Ariel kept her gaze down and moved forward to stand behind Anastasia.
The aide opened the car door and bowed to Anastasia.
“I’ll escort you, Young Lady Chappelle.”
At that moment, her purple eyes flashed sharply. She first shot a thorny glance at the car before turning to the aide.
“I distinctly told you to call me…”
“I was the one who ordered it.”
Devoncia cut off her anger.
Anastasia, who had been furious, abruptly stopped speaking as her eyes widened in surprise.
“…Your Highness?”
Even though she asked for confirmation, he didn’t say anything more.
When there was no explanation or clarification, she rolled her eyes anxiously. Then, as if finding a suitable rationalization, she smiled brightly.
“Ah! It’s for the activation of the regulations you instructed today! I was slow to understand.”
“Do you really think that’s the reason?”
“Yes? Your Highness, what do you mean…”
“Ariel, come here.”
The Crown Prince blatantly ignored Anastasia’s words and cut her off, and of course, he did so while calling Ariel.
In response to his summons, Ariel had to raise her face, which had been facing the ground. It was a command from the Crown Prince that she couldn’t resist. She moved with an unwilling step, feeling as if she were being led to a slaughterhouse. Still, refusing would only lead her to an even worse place.
In front of her, the convertible was visible, with the Crown Prince and Princess Chappelle seated in the upper seat.
Anastasia’s purple eyes fluttered.
As Ariel met her gaze, a chilling sensation washed over her.
Something had gone terribly wrong.
