I Unintentionally Cured the Grand Duke’s Insomnia - Chapter 76
38. — Multiple Personalities (2)
“Ah, of course, it’s true that I’m interested in the book the Young lady wrote. It would be great if we could meet again and have a conversation about it together.”
…Book?
At Million’s words, I turned my head as memories of my own forgotten book resurfaced in my mind.
He was smiling mischievously as he held up my newly reprinted book.
“Until next time, Young Lady Adelia.”
As if he didn’t want an answer from me, he waved goodbye and soon disappeared into the crowd that surrounded us.
As I stared at him blankly, I could feel a tiny foot nudge my cheek.
「 Lia. 」
“Noya.”
「 Your expression became stuff. 」
“…Is, is that so? I must have been a bit surprised.”
I chuckled awkwardly and brushed his cheek with the back of my hand. At that moment, Noya, who was being held by me, was lifted up by someone.
“Your Highness?”
“The Young Lady always exceeds my imagination.”
“Yes?”
“How do you know the heir to Marquis Black?”
Cain’s eyes bore into mine as if demanding for an answer. I rolled my eyes hesitantly at his question before cautiously responding.
“Can we move elsewhere and talk about that?”
“….”
“We can’t even waltz here.”

Cain and I rode in a carriage back to the Grand Duke’s residence. Sure enough, Lily and Noya, who had been next to me when I entered the mansion, had disappeared before I knew it.
Sitting on the couch in the office, I glanced at Cain as he entered the room.
“Where are Lily and Noya…?”
“They are in the other room. Rather than that, I think we need to talk about something else first.
He was quite impatient.
“Are you referring to the relationship with Young Lord Black?”
In an instant, sparks ignited in Cain’s eyes.
As I looked into his eyes, filled with such intensity that it seemed like he would burn Million alive if he were in front of him, I swallowed a dry gulp of saliva. No, if he displayed such animosity towards someone like me who was under surveillance, what fate awaited Irene?
He wouldn’t imprison her, would he…?
Feeling a small sense of gratitude that I wasn’t transmigrated into an R19 novel, I gathered my courage and carefully spoke my words.
“There is no relationship between the Lord and me. After all, today is the first time we’ve met.”
It was an honest statement, however, there was no trace of trust on his face as he continued to regard me with suspicion.
I carefully added, clasping my hands neatly on my knees.
“It’s true. I don’t know about the Lord, but for me, I only managed to debut a few weeks ago due to a chronic illness.”
“….”
“Before my debutante ball, I couldn’t even attend social events, so what reason could there be for him and I to meet?”
It wasn’t until after hearing my words that I added that he seemed to believe me a little. Feeling slightly relieved, I let out a breath of relief, and Cain asked his question again.
“Then today…”
“Yes?”
“Why were you with the heir of the Marquis today?”
I bit my lip at Cain’s words.
Judging from his question, it seemed that he still didn’t know that my book had been reprinted yet. Well, at first glance, there wasn’t much difference between the previous edition and the new one, so he might not have even considered the possibility.
Turning my head, I locked eyes with Cain, who awaited my response, and my mind raced to find a solution.
In this situation, I realized there were only two viable options—either tell him the truth and face the consequences or resort to lying in order to buy more time to retrieve the book. It was a weighty decision that held would shape our future, but surprisingly, I didn’t need to deliberate for long.
“I ran into him by chance at the bookstore where I went to retrieve a book.”
“Book?”
“…It was my book that was based on Your Highness the Grand Duke. The book was republished by Cus.”
Cain disliked lies, and given the recent incident in the square where we were seen together, it would be even more challenging to retrieve the books. People who were unaware of the circumstances might jump to conclusions and assume that we were indeed in love.
The Cain from a little while ago had portrayed himself as deeply infatuated with me, just like the title of the book implied. It was a convincing act, so much so that even I was momentarily deceived by it, so I could only imagine how persuasive it appeared to others.
With that in mind, there was no use in attempting to deceive him further to buy time.
Caught in this predicament, I had no choice but to be transparent and wait patiently, lying flat on the ground, uncertain whether I would face his wrath or receive his assistance.
As I cautiously tried to steal a glimpse of Cain’s expression, his face remained partially obscured, making it difficult to gauge his reaction. My anxiety grew, and I nervously pursed my lips before quickly adding a remark.
“In case you misunderstand, I really had no intention of republishing that book! Cus did it on his own…!”
Cain quietly raised his hand as if to interrupt me. While waiting for his words, a low voice came from his mouth.
“What do you mean by talking about the book?”
“Yes?”
“Is it about this book?”
Asking that, he held up my first published book. I nodded cautiously at the sight of Cain like that.
“Yes, that’s right. Lord Black said he enjoyed reading my book.”
