Chapter 56

“Why are you hesitating so much?”

I wondered how to broach the subject. After some deliberation, I decided to get to the point without any preamble.

“I think I might be the villain.”

“…H-huh?”

“I think I’m the villain.”

Dekir looked quite taken aback. However, he soon spoke in a serious tone.

“You think you might be the villain. That sounds like you’re not sure whether you’re the villain or not.”

Dekir was sharp as ever.

“Yes, ‘I’ am not the villain, but ‘Heyna’ seems to have been the villain.”

“What do you mean?”

Dekir looked at me with a puzzled expression, as if he didn’t understand at all.

“I’m not originally from this world. This place is actually a game created by my friend, and Heyna is one of the characters I created. When I opened my eyes, I possessed Heyna.”

“….”

There were two reasons why I decided to reveal to Dekir that this was a game world and that I was not Heyna.

One was to tell him everything and ask for his help.

‘Heyna’ was undoubtedly the villain. And as Heyna, I had to hide my true identity until the end.

Evidence that I was the villain could emerge anytime, anywhere. I needed an accomplice because it would be difficult for me to hide all the evidence on my own.

‘Dekir said that he would be on my side without hesitation, even if I was the villain.’

Dekir would surely be my ally.

The other reason was…

I didn’t want to lie to him anymore.

It was a somewhat emotional reason.

Dekir had hidden evidence for me despite the irrefutable evidence that had emerged. And I didn’t want to deceive him anymore, especially after he had confessed his feelings to me so honestly.

“I know it’s hard to believe. It sounds ridiculous, even to me.”

This world was simply an amusement created by someone, and everyone here was just a game character. It was hard to believe all of a sudden…

“No, I believe you.”

“Huh?”

“I believe you. Because it’s Heyna who’s saying it.”

His eyes held a clear conviction that made my heart ache.

“So, you’re saying that, oh, no. Since you’re not Heyna…”

Dekir seemed to be struggling to figure out what to call me.

“Just call me Heyna. I’m Heyna now.”

“Yes. So, Heyna, are you saying that the original Heyna in the game before you possessed her was the villain?”

“No. The Heyna I created wasn’t a villain. But judging from the remaining memories and the evidence that has emerged so far… I don’t know why, but it seems like Heyna has become the villain.”

I told him everything that had happened, my dream the previous night, and the faint memories of ‘Heyna’ that had surfaced.

Dekir listened to my story seriously and then said, “You must have had a hard time all by yourself.”

“I was really nervous that Anna would find out, but fortunately, it seems to have gone well. And this time, you helped me too.”

“No, that’s not what I meant. You were suddenly trapped in a game, and you said you didn’t remember who you were originally. If I were you, I think I would have been so flustered that I wouldn’t have been able to do anything.”

Dekir’s words made me feel dizzy.

In retrospect, it was strange.

At that time, I hadn’t given it much thought, simply assuming it was a way to escape the game… But why can’t I remember who I was, even now that time had passed?

Furthermore…

“Thinking about it, there’s something strange.”

“Something strange?”

“Before I met Dekir in the dining room, I couldn’t move freely like I can now. Until then, I had always acted like the real ‘Heyna’…”

“You mean your speech and behavior are different now?”

“Yes.”

I briefly explained what had happened before I met Dekir. From when I had fainted at the sight of the severed wrist to how I had given option to speak.

Dekir listened to my story, once again with a serious expression.

“You’re very different from the Heyna I know too.”

“Yes. I’ve changed so much, but no one seems to find it strange. The three of them have been with me all the time.”

Rose and Tommy might not notice, but surely Zion, who often suspected me, would have noticed something amiss.

No one had questioned the changes in ‘Heyna’s’ speech and behavior.

“Maybe this is another error that occurred when I entered the game?”

Like the favorability that didn’t exist in the original game, the severed wrist and Anna, which had become collectibles in my inventory.

I decided to temporarily set aside the questions clouding my mind.

For now, my priority was to escape this room within the time limit.

“Anyway, my goal is to escape this mansion safely and get out of the game. So Dekir, please. Help me.”

It was a cruel thing to say to Dekir, who had just confessed his feelings for me. Once the game was over, I would cease to exist, and Dekir, a character in the game, would be left here alone.

However, Dekir replied without a moment’s hesitation.

“Yes, I will.”

“Thank you. And I’m sorry. I…”

Before I could finish saying that I couldn’t reciprocate his confession, Dekir interrupted me.

“Ah, I thought so.”

“Huh?”

“They say that first loves never come true. I thought I might be different.”

His self-deprecating laughter was short-lived, and he soon returned to his usual gentle smile.

“But I’m still glad. You told me all this because you trust me that much. I’ll help you return safely to your own world.”

“Thank you, Dekir.”

***

Dekir handed me the second memory fragment. I used [Distortion] on the second memory fragment.

[Today, ■■■■■■ ■■ came.
■■ blurred ■■■■.
My name is Anna!
■■■ ■■■ was blurred.
■■■ ■■■ blurred again.]

The drawings, the words, and all the information that could identify me were blurred.
‘This way, they won’t be able to figure out the contents of the diary at all.’

Now that I had processed the memory fragment, the next thing to do was…

“Now, let’s think about how to get past this.”

At my words, Dekir took out his walkie-talkie.

“How about we ask the others what they’re up to?”
