Chapter 138

“Hahaha! If you’re that desperate for my goods, I suppose I can be generous, just this once.”

“Truly?”

“Of course. Do I look like a man who goes back on his word?”

“No, never! Thank you! Thank you so much!” The blue-haired man bowed his head repeatedly. The piggish man looked down at him, his voice dripping with malice.

“However, there’s a price for my generosity. You need to show me some… sincerity.”

“Sincerity…?”

“Don’t worry. I’m not going to take money from someone who clearly has none.” The man spread his legs, his ample belly jiggling, and gestured with a thick, gold-ringed finger towards his crotch. “If you want my goods, crawl like a dog and beg. I’ll decide whether or not to do business with you based on how much… heart you put into it.”

His words were met with a roar of laughter.

“Good heavens. Are they all mad? What’s so funny about this?” Rose couldn’t comprehend the scene unfolding before her. “What are these goods that are worth this kind of humiliation?”

The blue-haired man, groveling on the ground without a shred of dignity, and the deranged men who treated him with such contempt—their behavior defied all logic.

“Well? Can’t do it?”

“No! I’ll do it!”

Just as the blue-haired man lowered himself to crawl, a furious voice cut through the air.

“What is the meaning of this?!”

A familiar face appeared, filled with righteous anger. It was Tommy. His deep navy eyes were dark and cold, like the depths of the ocean.

“Get up, Father.”

As Rose had suspected, the blue-haired man was Tommy’s father.

“T-Tommy? What are you doing here?” The blue eyes, which had remained steady throughout the barrage of insults, now flickered with uncertainty.

“That’s none of your concern.” Tommy snapped, his gaze fixed on the men who had just humiliated his father. “Do you know who I am?”

The men instantly dropped to their knees.

“Yes, of course we do!”

“How could we not recognize Master Tommy?!”

“You’re Master Tommy Liverton, heir to the Liverton County!”

“…What? Tommy Liverton?” Rose was stunned, but she decided to observe the situation unfold.

“You dare treat my father like this? I refuse to do business with any of you ever again! Get out of my sight!”

Tommy’s words drained the color from the men’s faces.

“Oh no! Master Tommy, we’re so sorry!”

“We made a terrible mistake, not recognizing your esteemed presence! Please, forgive us just this once!”

The men pleaded profusely, but Tommy ignored them, turning to his father.

“Let’s go, Father.” He helped his father to his feet.

Witnessing the entire scene, Rose finally understood Tommy’s dream.

“He wants a high position so he can protect his father from this kind of humiliation…”

His father had suffered insults and degradation at the hands of the nobility. It was only natural that Tommy, having witnessed this, would harbor resentment towards them.

“Then that’s why he was so cold to me…” Rose recalled their previous encounter in the dream.

“You clearly haven’t learned your place. With a single word, I could have you and your entire family banished from this empire. Understand?”

She had unknowingly struck a nerve, triggering Tommy’s trauma.

“I shouldn’t have said that.” Rose felt a pang of regret for her careless words.

Just then, a voice called out to her.

“Come here, Rose.”

Tommy’s voice made her jump.

“Wh-what? Did he notice me?” She was surprised that he knew she was there, but even more surprised by…

“Why is his voice so gentle?” His tone was completely different from before—unbelievably soft.

“Come here, Rose.” Those simple words were laced with affection, as if spoken to a beloved.

“Beloved?! What am I even thinking?!” Rose mentally chastised herself for her absurd thoughts.

“This is perfect! I can tell him this is all a dream.” She started to step forward, ready to confront Tommy, but froze in her tracks. An unbelievable scene unfolded before her eyes.

“That’s mean, Tommy! You can’t just leave me like that.”

Another Rose—or rather, a woman who looked exactly like her—appeared out of nowhere and linked arms with Tommy. Dressed in a pristine white gown, she pouted playfully. Tommy gazed at her with adoration, then…

…kissed her.

“He’s… mad!” Rose frantically rubbed her own lips, her face burning even though she hadn’t been the one kissed. Unable to bear the sight any longer, she turned away.

“I’m sorry, Rose. Are you still mad?”

“…Hmph.”

“So… you’re not going to look at me?”

“.…”

“Hmm?”

“…I don’t know.”

“Don’t be angry, my love. You know I adore you.”

“…Then kiss me.”

Rose listened to their childish banter, utterly bewildered, until finally…

“Hey, Tommy! Are you crazy? What are you doing?!” She couldn’t contain herself any longer and stepped in front of him.

“…R-Rose?” Seeing the real Rose, Tommy’s composure crumbled. He flustered, like someone caught doing something they shouldn’t. Rose marched towards him.

The other Rose, his father, and the other men had vanished.

Glaring at him, Rose demanded, “Even if this is a dream, this is too much! Who do you think you are, my…”

“My husband?” The words caught in her throat.

“Why… why is my heart racing like this?” She had felt this sensation before, a similar flutter in her chest when she’d developed a crush on a charming young marquis she’d met at a party. Of course, she’d quickly gotten over him after discovering he was a womanizing gambler, but… the point was, her heart was pounding in Tommy’s presence, just like it had then.

“Why? I don’t… l-l-love him!”
