I Think I’m a Horror Game Villain - Chapter 121
Chapter 121
“This is too much. Too much. Too much.” She muttered rapidly, like a sped-up cassette tape, then abruptly lifted her head, meeting my gaze. Her eyes, black as ink, narrowed into crescents.
“Hey, Heyna.” The chilling, metallic rasp was gone; the ghost spoke with Rose’s voice again. Her blackened eyes had returned to their original color. “Do you really need to find such a bothersome child?”
As if trying to persuade me, she whispered in a soft voice. “Honestly, Heyna, you don’t like Rose either, do you? All she does is scream and whine. She’s always causing trouble. Wouldn’t it be easier if Rose just disappeared?”
“…So, what do you want from me?”
“It’s simple. Just leave this place.”
“Leave Rose here?”
“Yes. Rose wants that too. Even if you force her out of here, she won’t be grateful. She might even get annoyed, asking why you woke her up.”
I couldn’t say anything. She wasn’t exactly wrong. It was true that Rose didn’t want to wake up from her dream. That’s why all the ghosts in the ballroom had taken on Rose’s appearance. Her narrow, light blue eyes curved slyly.
“Don’t worry about it, Heyna. No one will blame you if Rose disappears like this. They’ll probably be happy. Everyone secretly wishes she would vanish. A child that no one likes…”
“So that’s what you thought.” I interrupted her. There was no need to listen anymore. “Now I understand why you hid yourself away.” Rose’s reluctance to wake up wasn’t just from fear. “You wanted to disappear because you felt like no one liked you, like you were only a burden, didn’t you?”
“…What are you talking about, Heyna? Rose isn’t capable of such deep thoughts. She’s selfish and only cares about herself.”
“Yes, that’s right. Rose is very self-centered.”
“See! You think so too, Heyna! So…”
“But she isn’t selfish and only cares about herself.” Rose had warned me to stay away from Dekir, and she’d been very careful about how she said it, probably because she thought I liked him. If Rose were truly selfish, she wouldn’t have been so considerate of my feelings, or given me that warning. “Rose is just bad at being honest. Everyone around her was probably the same.”
Like the young ladies who just blindly agreed with Rose, no matter how she behaved. “You said no one likes Rose. You’re wrong.” I told her, the girl who hated herself, who looked just like Rose, exactly what I thought. “Because I like Rose.”
“…Lies! You hate Rose too, Heyna! She’s annoying and bothersome! You think she’s a nuisance!”
“Yes, that’s true.” Rose sulked, cried, and screamed over trivial matters, constantly causing problems. In a horror game, she was nothing but a nuisance character. And yet… “And yet, I still like her. Rose is my friend.”
“That doesn’t make sense! You said she’s annoying and bothersome! How can you be friends with someone like that?”
“That’s what friends are like. Sometimes they’re annoying and bothersome. But then you like them again. That’s what real friends are.”
It’s impossible to always get along. Some days, you fall out over the smallest things, and other days, you can barely stand the sight of each other. But then, you make up just as easily and laugh together again. That’s friendship. A real friend, not a fake one who only offers insincere flattery.
“So I’m going to wake Rose up. I can’t leave my friend alone.”
“….”
The ghost that looked like Rose stared at me silently. Her blue eyes gradually darkened, and her red hair turned a dull, lifeless color. After glaring at me for a long moment, she spoke in a sharp voice. “Go ahead and try. Rose will never come out to meet you on her own.”
The ghost turned black and vanished in an instant. That had sounded like the real Rose. When I looked around again, the illusions of Rose that had filled the ballroom were gone. Should I go now? To find my cowardly, crybaby, dishonest friend.
“Heyna.” I turned at the sound of my name.
“Dekir! Where have you been?”
“I was looking for Rose over there… but then everyone in the ballroom suddenly turned into her, and I was so surprised I started looking for you. Did you find her?”
“No. I couldn’t find her.” I told Dekir everything that had happened. He listened intently, then suddenly asked, “Heyna, what would you do if you had to choose between Rose and me?”
“Huh?” Suddenly? “I don’t understand why you’re asking me that, Dekir. Both you and Rose are precious to me. Why do I have to choose?”
