I Reincarnated As A Villainess, But Why Did I Become A Cat Butler Instead? - Chapter 323
Chapter 162.1
“You’re walking the rest of the way from here.”
As soon as they reached the capital, Dimitri told Samael to set down Esca, who had been carried all the way there in the demon’s arms like a baby. He then dismissed Samael.
“Humans have made so many convenient things. Why do you insist on ignoring them and making me do something this ridiculous?”
Dimitri grumbled.
It was the same complaint he’d been muttering the entire journey.
‘It was good when I flew with Rowaine.’
Back then, it was an ecstatically happy experience. But for some reason, flying the same way with Esca just irritated him.
Esca, on the other hand, wore a calm expression as he adjusted his clothes, which had been slightly disheveled by the wind.
“Thanks to you, Dimitri, I got to try something new. Flying through the sky is quite enjoyable.”
Leaving the satisfied Esca behind, Dimitri turned away coldly.
“I’m going ahead. Whether you take the carriage or walk is up to you. Just don’t get caught by any trouble along the way.”
Dog shapeshifter slaves were highly sought after by humans, which made dog shapeshifters wandering alone easy targets. Even though Esca was a wolf shapeshifter and not a dog, in his human form, he resembled one enough. Still, Esca was as strong as Dimitri and knew how to survive on his own, so he would be fine.
“Don’t worry. I’ll see you later.”
Esca, ever good-natured, said with a calm smile.
“Hmph. Who said I was worried?”
Dimitri summoned Samael again and shot up into the sky. He was eager to see Rowaine as soon as possible. But as he neared the mansion, an increasingly unpleasant energy washed over him.
‘What is this? A demon’s energy…’
He could feel Agaliarept’s presence radiating strongly from inside the mansion. Seeing the lingering traces of a fight, he realized something terrible had happened.
He hurried into the mansion.
“Master…”
“Where’s Rowaine?”
The butler started to greet Dimitri, surprised by his sudden arrival, but Dimitri cut him off sharply, his irritation clear. Taken aback by his tone, the butler flinched and pointed toward the upper floor.
“She’s in the parlor on the second floor.”
The moment he heard ‘parlor,’ Dimitri was already racing up the stairs before the butler could finish his sentence. As he opened the parlor door and stepped inside, he saw Rowaine leaning on Avila’s shoulder, crying with a stricken face.
And there, hovering on the opposite side of her, was Agaliarept, larger than ever before.
“Rowaine!”
“Ah, Dimitri!”
When Rowaine saw Dimitri, she quickly stood up but swayed unsteadily.
Her face was deathly pale. Even though the exact color of her complexion was hard to make out, Dimitri could still tell she was pale, using his intuition and the subtle shades he observed.
“What happened? Did Count Heres come here?”
“Dimitri, what do we do?”
Instead of the tearful Rowaine, Coco, now in human form, spoke with a serious expression.
“Captain, that man took Sasha! He kidnapped her!”
“He kidnapped Sasha?”
What could have happened? Why would Herman take Sasha?
Coco gestured toward Agaliaept.
“Rowaine asked the demon to find out if Sasha was safe.”
Agaliaept let out a pleased, sinister cackle. He had grown so large that it looked like he could swallow everyone in the room in a single bite.
“Heehee! The little one is still alive! Not dead yet. I can sense Abaddon’s power! Kikiki!“
If something terrible had happened to Sasha, her contract with Abaddon would have been broken. Since Abaddon’s power was still present in this world, it meant, at least, the worst-case scenario, Sasha’s death, hadn’t happened.
Still, staying alive didn’t mean Sasha was out of danger.
‘I need to calm Rowaine down first.’
Dimitri shot a sharp, disapproving glare at Agaliaept, who was feeding off Rowaine’s fear and using it to exert influence over her. The demon was pretending to soothe her, but in reality, he was only twisting the knife.
“Kekeke! Abaddon is writhing! Looks like it’s drooling with hunger! It’s all excited at the thought of snatching that little kitten’s life soon! Heehee! But don’t worry, the kid’s still alive for now!”
Rowaine, her voice trembling with tears, grabbed onto Agaliaept.
“What are you talking about? What do you mean, ‘take her life soon’? Are you saying something has already happened to Sasha?”
It was clear now that, until Dimitri arrived, Rowaine had been completely caught up in Agaliaept’s manipulations.
‘So that’s why he’s gotten so powerful.’
Dimitri clicked his tongue and gently rested a hand on Rowaine’s shoulder.
“Rowaine, don’t take everything that thing says so seriously. A demon isn’t a god. It acts like it knows everything and talks as if it can fix anything, but all it really does is trick and manipulate people.”
Agaliaept rolled his eyes shamelessly.
“Heehee, all I did was help. Heehee! I was just trying to help! So unfair! So unfair!”
“Shut up before I tear you apart.”
