Chapter 9.2

***

“Young Lady. Young Lady Audrey. Wake up.”

“Hmm, what is it…”

As I wondered who the main culprit was who woke me up in the morning, I saw Sarah’s face.

She would normally just do her job cleaning without caring whether I woke up or not, so what was the reason she woke me up today?

“A boutique clerk came and gave me these boxes with the Young Lady’s clothes and shoes. Did you really buy them?”

“A boutique? Ah… They were a gift. They’re mine, so just leave them here and I’ll organize them later.”

“Did you say you received them as a gift? They look very expensive. Was it perhaps Viscount Lowell, who promised to marry…”

“Ugh, don’t say creepy things. They were a gift from Sir Trish.”

However, Sarah’s expression didn’t brighten up at all. She seemed to think that the old viscount and Trish were the same kind of human being.

In terms of personality, I guess, but their age and looks aren’t the same, right?

Apart from being old, if his face is okay, you can sigh and move on even if he does bad things, but if he’s ugly and his personality is trash, there’s no way to recycle it.

“Sarah, you’re still young, so I don’t think you know anything…”

“I’m only one year younger than you.”

“Then I’m saying this as a senior who has lived one year more than you. You can’t meet a man just by looking at his face, but you can’t meet a man by not looking at his face either.”

Sarah looked at me, certainly wondering what the hell I was talking about, but this was strictly true.

The most important thing was a man’s face! The next thing was money, and the next thing was his body.

I couldn’t help but swear at myself for being materialistic. Such was the truth of the world.

“In any case, I want to sleep more. Don’t wake me up.”

“The Baron saw it too. I think you need to explain where the gifts came from.”

“Ah, really. Then you should have said that earlier.”

I laughed as I imagined the face of Baron Delphonie, embarrassed in front of the expensive gifts.

Trish was a much better groom than the one he found. I was curious about his reaction and how he would deal with it.

“… What is all this?”

Unsurprisingly, Baron Delphonie pointed to the boxes in the middle of the living room and asked where they came from.

It was a very narrow living room, so even though there were only three or four large boxes piled up, the living room felt cramped.

Maybe it was because there were three people there.

“You know it when you see it. It’s all mine.”

“Where did you get it?”

“It was a gift. Our family isn’t in a situation to buy things, right?”

He was a man who tried to sell his daughter to a perverted old man, so my words weren’t nice.

As if taken aback by my courageous attitude, Baron Delphonie looked at me for a long time without responding right away.

“Ah, right. Did Viscount Lowell buy it for you?”

Was that the best answer he could come up with?

I responded with a frown, not hiding my displeasure.

“Sorry? Why would I receive a gift from that old man?”

“Old man? How dare you speak like that of your future husband…”

“I never said I was going to marry him?”

“Audrey, you’re out of your mind.”

Baron Delphonie, who was not immune to his daughter’s attitude, began to get angry in the middle of the living room, not caring whether a servant was watching or not.

“Where is the man who will buy such expensive gifts for you?! Did you meet a man selling your body like your mother? Choosing only dirty things to do…”

“Be careful what you say, Father. I never sold my body, and this is a gift from someone who loves me. It was given with pure affection.”

I realized Baron Delphonie was more pathetic than I thought after exchanging a few words, so I didn’t want to talk to him.

After instructing Sarah to move the gifts to my room, I grabbed the last of the boxes and sneered at Baron Delphonie as much as I could.

I wanted to give a blow to the man who could only blame his daughter without acting like a proper father.

“How did my mother meet a man who lacked this much ability? Well, I suppose that’s why she has come to her senses and caught another one.”
