I Picked Up the Trash Others Threw Away - Chapter 36.1
Chapter 36.1
The restaurant Trish recommended was a new three-story building, with commoners mainly using the first and second floors, and nobles mainly using the third floor.
Couples or families sat at the tables on the third floor and enjoyed their meals while watching the night view from the windows.
We sat among them, ordered a course meal, and shared a glass of wine while chatting casually. Spending a peaceful evening playing the role of a loving couple was surprisingly enjoyable.
But while we continued our meal, I started noticing something strange. A man and a woman sat awkwardly in the window seat across from us, not exchanging a single word. They were barely touching their food.
It wouldn’t be a big deal if that were it, but they both kept glancing at us and hastily turned their heads whenever our eyes met.
‘Am I imagining things?’
I tried to ignore it and continued talking to Trish, but when he got up to go to the bathroom, the man in the window seat did the same.
‘… No way.’
There was no reason for someone to be trailing us, but it also wasn’t a bad idea to check at least once, so I kept an eye on the woman.
I casually stared at the window while keeping her in my peripheral vision, but she still didn’t touch the food.
Meanwhile, Trish returned to his seat, and I stood up, saying that I would wash my hands.
I deliberately walked slowly to the bathroom and then turned my head to see the woman getting up as well. It seemed that Trish hadn’t noticed yet.
I didn’t enter the bathroom stall. I paced in front of the powder room when the woman arrived, pretending to move out of the way.
“Tsk. My lipstick smudged.”
Even as I deliberately took my time fixing my lipstick and washing my hands, the woman didn’t leave the bathroom.
Unable to hide my suspicion, I boldly decided to talk to the woman.
“Excuse me, I’ve been watching you for a while.”
“… Sorry?” the woman asked, surprised. She didn’t seem to have expected me to speak first.
“You and your lover didn’t speak at all during your meal, so I was wondering if you had a fight. I’m a bit nosy, so it bothered me a lot.”
“…”
“Or maybe you were too focused on something else to talk? You seemed to be very interested in us, too.”
As I struck her directly, the woman didn’t respond immediately.
But then, the bewildered woman suddenly smiled, and she spoke in a different tone than before.
“As expected, you are perceptive. Mr. Seraph said it was hard to keep an eye on you.”
“Seraph? So, I guess you work for him. Why did you follow us when you could just approach us openly?”
“There are many eyes watching both us and the Lady. We’re not here to threaten you, so please don’t be alarmed.”
We weren’t even allies, we were just in a contractual relationship. What kind of fool would lower their guard in this situation? She might be hiding something.
I crossed my arms and looked at the woman, leaning against the bathroom door.
“State your business.”
“Yes. Mr. Seraph asked for your cooperation to come to Moonlake today. He said he needed a dealer to run the game.”
“I have no other plans tonight, so I’m willing to cooperate, but I can’t go right now. I need time to prepare.”
“We’ll send a carriage to your residence at exactly midnight. Then I’ll be going back now.”
As if that was enough, the woman bowed politely and left first.
I tried to press the somewhat strange feeling of the one-sided request, and headed back to my table. The suspicious man and woman had already left.
Trish, who had finished his meal, grumbled as he wondered why I had taken so long.
“Trish, did anything happen in my absence?”
“What do you mean? Nothing happened. I was worried for a while that you had collapsed in the bathroom.”
“Gosh, I shouldn’t have opened my mouth.”
I shook my head and briefly told him that Seraph had invited me to Moonlake tonight.
Trish blatantly expressed his displeasure, frowning at the fact that we were being followed.
“Everyone who dwells in the back alleys is like that, but he really is a shady bastard. Couldn’t even send a proper escort.”
“That’s why I’m planning to go home and then head out alone. Could you have the servants keep quiet? I don’t want anyone to find out.”
“Are you sure you want to go? You never know what might happen. At least take Simon—no, don’t take Simon. Take Allen with you.”
“Even if I’m accompanied by an escort knight, I’ll be alone in the game room. Besides, they’re sending a carriage for me…”
