I Picked Up the Trash Others Threw Away - Chapter 31.1
Chapter 31.1
The Malekiah family’s villa was mainly used by the count and countess as a summer retreat.
There was a lake nearby where you could enjoy boating, it was safe to swim there as long as you didn’t venture into the deeper areas.
The reflection of the sunlight on the water’s surface was particularly beautiful, and the countess said that her mind became naturally clearer when she sat by the glass window in the dining room and looked at it.
“Wow…”
I couldn’t help but admire it as I stepped down from the carriage.
Just as the countess described, the exterior of the villa was breathtaking, in harmony with nature. Even when the count’s family didn’t visit, the villa’s servants were always tending to it, so it was natural.
After hearing about Trish’s marriage, the villa’s servants had already made preparations to welcome us. They stood in a neat line, bowing politely, while sneaking curious and tense glances at us.
This was because the villa was quite far from the main house, and except for the count and countess, who frequented this place, they never saw their sons.
They were also very curious since the second son, who was called a ruffian, had gotten married.
“Greetings, Young Master Trish and Young Lady!”
They all raised their voices.
Their blatant curiosity was overwhelming, but I felt at ease when I realized that they were watching our reaction to know how to respond.
“Nice to meet you, everyone. This year, the Malekiah family’s gathering will take place in the villa.”
“Yes! We were informed, Young Lady.”
“Mother gave me permission to host the gathering this time, so I came beforehand to check everything. Could you show us around while our luggage is unpacked?”
“Of course. I am Rumati, the head butler of the villa. I will help you get around. Young Master Trish, it’s been a while since you came to the villa, isn’t it?”
“Long time no see, old man. It seems like you’ve aged a lot since the last time I saw you.”
Trish’s tone was cocky, but the bright smile on his face showed that he was genuinely welcoming the other person.
With a nod, Rumati squeezed Trish’s hand without reserve.
“I worked hard to teach you the rules of etiquette, but it was all in vain,” he calmly said. “You’re as unruly as ever, Young Master.”
“I don’t know, maybe your teaching skills were lacking?”
The two laughed out loud as if it were a joke shared between each other.
Unlike Stefan, the head butler of the main house, Rumati was relaxed and playful.
It wasn’t just Rumati, though. If the servants of the main house were quiet and discreet, the servants of the villa seemed much more easygoing and honest than they were. Maybe it was because it was a smaller house surrounded by nature, relatively far away from the bustling main street?
“I used to come here often when I was a child. It brings back memories,” Trish muttered as he looked around, clearly pleased to be back at the villa after such a long time.
“Is that so? It seems to be a special place for you.”
“It’s a place that contains memories of the past. It hasn’t changed much.”
We followed Rumati around the exterior of the villa.
A little pier with a ferry, a crystal-clear emerald lake without a single ripple, a flock of ducks floating on the water surface, a bird perched on a tall tree, looking at us…
Passing the lake and heading towards the back of the villa, there was a small vegetable garden which Trish explained to be the result of Rumati and the gardener’s tending.
The poultry farm and stable were connected, so it was easy to carry fertilizer around.
It was a lovely house. If I came to live independently in the future, I wanted a house like this.
“It’s really beautiful. I think I’d be happy every day if I lived in a house like this.”
“It may not be as grand as the main house, but it’s perfect to rest and relax.”
“I like this place better. It’s quiet and comfortable, away from the city center.”
“The Young Lady is quite frugal. I think you’ll love this place. I am proud to say that the air here is very clean.”
