I Picked Up the Trash Others Threw Away - Chapter 27.1
Chapter 27.1
The person who entered the bedroom was Trish, who had become my husband since yesterday.
The neat clothes he had changed into while I was asleep, and his tidy hairstyle were the first things that caught my eye.
After that, I saw the trays he held in both hands and the food piled on top of them. He seemed to have brought the meal himself, which was something he could have ordered a servant to do.
“Are you awake? You slept for a long time.”
“You should have woken me up. We could have gone out together.”
“It would be even more strange for a bride who just had her first night to wake up early in the morning. I told them you’d eat breakfast in your room, so just take your time eating and getting ready.”
“Thank you for your consideration. How did the servants react? Did they suspect anything?”
“Why would they? Who would dare to ask their masters about their intimate situation? Unless they are reckless enough to do that.”
That was true. I affirmed Trish’s reply with a snort.
My mind was still in a daze since I had just woken up, so I started by washing my face. The cold water on my fingers woke me up.
As I walked out of the bathroom in my robe, Trish had set up the table and was waiting for me.
“Hurry up and eat.”
Even if it was a relatively light breakfast, the first breakfast at the Malekiah mansion was very luxurious.
From a commemorative cake made in advance by the chef as if to celebrate the newlyweds’ first night, to freshly baked bread, to clam chowder soup made with fresh seafood, to cabbage porridge and various fruits prepared to relax one’s mind.
I was sleeping soundly because I was tired from the wedding ceremony, and the hunger came later.
I couldn’t hold back when I smelled the food. I picked up the bread in the basket and started eating it with butter.
Trish glanced at my face, eager as I looked at the meal in front of me, and shook his head.
“You look too healthy and energetic for a new bride,” he muttered. “Pretend you’re a little tired for a day or so.”
“I have a pile of work to do, how can I pretend to be weak? The family’s servants are so strict they won’t even care if I’m groaning in pain.”
“Some servants have been in the family for generations, so they’re a little strict when it comes to etiquette. But what does it matter? There’s nothing they can do if the bride who could later become the lady of the household complains a little. Just do what you want.”
“Lady of the house? You’re not even the heir…”
“You seem to have forgotten, but I’m your husband since yesterday. A wife should respect her husband, Audrey.”
I ignored Trish’s words and drank the soup. Was he talking about respecting one’s husband now?
‘No. Is that the right thing to do in this day and age?’
In any case, there was no obligation to respect my husband in terms of contract marriage, so I decided not to care.
As I drew the curtains that had been closed the night before, I noticed the movements of the people outside the window as they busily greeted the day.
The knights training while yelling loudly, the clothes hanging on the clothesline while the servants hung more recently washed laundry, the gardener tending to the garden…
‘I can’t believe I can now live in the real world of romance fantasies.’
Let’s enjoy the luxury of being treated by people.
“Hihihi.”
“… Why are you laughing like that?”
“I’m just feeling good.”
“I understand that much since you succeeded in the marriage you had been hoping for, but laughing like that makes you look inadequate,” Trish spoke in a provoking manner, but I just smiled instead of answering. I was feeling so good that I thought I would just forgive him with generosity no matter what he did.
Trish, who was drinking black tea, put down his cup with a grin, perhaps amused by how my expression seemed to change every moment.
“Are you that happy?”
“Yes. This is all a sight I couldn’t even dream of in the barony. I’ll enjoy it while I can.”
“Didn’t you receive a lot of money from the owner of the Moonlake casino? You should at least be able to get away from that shabby abandoned house.”
“What do you mean abandoned, people live there.”
Though I said that, I laughed. The result of struggling to somehow live like a human being was that I was now seeing the light.
