I Picked Up the Trash Others Threw Away - Chapter 23.2
Chapter 23.2
On the other hand, he seemed to glow even more after his hair was combed more neatly than usual. It was undoubtedly the appearance of a newlywed groom.
The usually disheveled hair that matched his bad attitude gave him a more playboy-like atmosphere, but he looked more handsome with his hair swept back while wearing a neat suit.
Just as drawing a line on a pumpkin didn’t turn it into a watermelon, an already handsome person would look even more handsome if they were well-dressed.
“… Well, you didn’t change that much,” Trish muttered calmly, gently withdrawing his hand from the veil.
I still thought I was pretty in my own way, but as someone who once went after the heroine, he seemed to have pretty high standards.
“Because I look plain by nature.”
“Young Master, would you please step aside for a while so that I can finish getting the lady ready.”
Since he had done what he had come to do, Trish left the room without any hesitation.
While the servants sighed in relief and put their hands to work again, the ceremony time approached.
As I finished dressing up and headed for the hallway, Trish, who was waiting for me, reached out his hand.
It was refreshing to be a married couple now, even if it was for contractual reasons and we had no relationship with each other, but on the other hand, it was also true that we were nervous.
“Are you nervous?”
“It doesn’t say anywhere that I can’t be,” I replied calmly to Trish’s question. He laughed lightly.
I had never been married before my possession.
Considering that the groom was not a person I loved and that everyone here was a figure in a romance fantasy worldview, I thought that even if a ceremony was actually held, it would have a low sense of reality.
However, when the door opened wide and everyone’s eyes turned to us, my expression hardened, and I could not hide my tension and trembling.
My dress was pretty simple, so why was walking so uncomfortable? I squished Trish’s hand, which I had been barely holding.
“You will break my hand before you even put on the ring,” he muttered, frowning slightly.
The majority of the guests glancing around were people I didn’t even know, but Baron and Baroness Delphonie, who were also attending, had their eyes fixed on me.
They should at least look like a harmonious family in other people’s eyes, so I could see that they had also taken care of their appearance.
I managed to arrive in front of the officiant and read the formal wedding vows.
Now, we had to put the wedding rings on each other.
Trish reached out his hand first, and I grabbed it so that I could fit the ring well over the white ceremony gloves. I could vividly feel his firm hand wrapped in the thin cloth.
As I quickly put the ring on and held out my left hand, Trish gently separated my fourth finger and inserted the golden ring as if he was used to doing that.
“I hereby declare you husband and wife.”
I sighed quietly at the formal applause that announced the end of the ceremony.
It was a relief that it wasn’t followed by something useless like a kiss to seal the vows.
The guests all came to congratulate us one by one, but I didn’t have exactly anyone to talk to, so I just smiled at them.
Trish also looked bored from start to finish as this situation was just boring.
“Try not to show that you were forced to get married,” I whispered, poking him on the side with my elbow.
“You have also been reacting like this since a while ago.”
“What kind of conversation can I have with people whose names I don’t even know?”
As if that were the case for him too, Trish only shrugged.
After the reception began and I changed into an evening dress that was a little more comfortable than a wedding dress, I was able to move more freely.
I couldn’t believe freedom was something so hard to attain.
I was relieved to think that I could eat as much as I wanted today, even the food I had restricted to maintain my shape and properly fit the dress.
As such, while I was working hard to finish my portion of the meal while the grown-ups of both families were talking, an aristocratic young lady, who seemed to be my age, approached me.
“Greetings, Lady Audrey.”
‘Who?’
The Delphonies had few relationships close enough to send out wedding invitations, and my connections were even narrower because I wasn’t particularly active in the social world.
Thanks to this, there was no one in particular that I wanted to invite, so I just asked them to take care of it. However, seeing someone pretending to know me, I was embarrassed about how to treat her.
