I see a large table, paper, and most of all, familiar black hair.

When I look up, I see your eyes widening as you look at me, and it makes me smile.

“Euseniel.”

You call my name as you catch me falling from the air.

“Lady!”

“Lady Hardland!”

I reach out to touch your pale cheek, just in case it’s a dream, and feel the familiar lukewarm body temperature.

Ah, my Tess.

“Euseniel.”

The tension melts as I see the face of the person I’ve missed so much after a long time.

The sweet scent I’ve longed for, the black hair and eyes,

“Tess.”

The name that slipped from my lips sounds so lovely. And you, with that name, are so lovely too.

“Tess.”

My Tess.

I blink, and this time, my heavy eyelids give way.

* * *

The long, tedious war had made no progress since Euseniel was captured.

The Southern Empire’s plan to push over the mountain once again ended in failure, causing them significant losses. The Kirapt heart that Euseniel destroyed was far more deadly than expected.

Instead, when the Kirapt’s heart exploded, part of the mountain collapsed, but our army seized the position.

The dragon, which had appeared unexpectedly, never showed up again, and a tedious battle, wasting supplies on both sides, continued.

When the Southern Empire sent a large force, we responded using our powerful weapons and terrain.

“Euseniel.”

I held the Kirapt heart, which was the only thing she had successfully imbued with her mana.

Euseniel, the moment I saw you being captured, I surely went wild.

But surprisingly, I was able to regain control.

I broke a lot of things. The ground was deeply scarred, and suddenly a downpour started. Thunder and lightning struck.

I could still faintly hear General Panet’s distant voice giving orders, but once I regained my senses, I was perfectly fine.

The refreshing yet sweet scent surrounding me made me realize something.

The mana you left inside me was holding me together, and I wanted to tell you that.

The reason I could maintain my composure was because your mana was still with me.

This mana suppresses the power of the devil, and when the enemy dies, it will disappear too.

Euseniel is alive. Safe.

I strained my ears, but I couldn’t feel your presence across the river. It was not my land, and I couldn’t hear anything.

“Your Majesty, may we use more of the Kirapt heart?”

“How much is left?”

“About one-third.”

“Leave that as a last resort. I forbid it.”

Euseniel had shattered an astonishing amount of Kirapt’s heart, enough to fill a chest. It became one of the most powerful weapons.

It was developed into a more useful weapon by Weathering Blest.

It was unnecessarily useful.

I had planned to make it look like he died from a blind stone hit during the war, but that wasn’t going to work.

“How do you plan to proceed with the plan to rescue Lady Hardland?”

“Have you received any messages from within the Southern Empire?”

“We did get word from an infiltrator, but there was no mention of Lady Hardland.”

I barely managed to keep my composure, but that was all I could do.

In the end, I picked up my sword and went to the battlefield, and damn it, the Southern Empire’s Emperor showed up too.

“Euel is of noble birth, so I should make her my Empress!”

The idiot from the Southern Empire laughed, scratching his outfit.

“A half-elf with high status—how perfect for me!”

The audacity of him saying he would claim my Euseniel only fueled my anger, but it also meant the news of Euseniel’s safety.

I feigned anger, swinging my sword harder, hoping he wouldn’t notice my relief.

“Haha, you lowly devil contractor!”

The battle between the Southern Empire’s Emperor and me was evenly matched. Every time our swords clashed, the ground around us would sink, and no one dared approach.

The terrain had shifted after days of fighting, but neither of us cared.

Generations of rampaging devil contractors had been suppressed by the divine envoy of the Southern Empire’s Emperor. They ultimately died, but I had seen the scenes from the devil’s memories.

The Southern Empire’s Emperor was somewhat affected by the madness of the Northern Empire’s Emperor. He may have been less insane than me, but he was still mad in his own way.

How dare he pretend to be normal.

“Did you kill the former Emperor because you’re so noble?”

I sneered as I twisted my lips, and the Emperor’s pale skin turned a sickly blue.

“How!”

It had taken quite a bit of effort to discover that fact, but just seeing him flustered was enough to make it meaningful.

“You call yourself a holy priest of light but killed your father. You must have paid the price to Lux.”

“Shut up!”

“Noble birth? Hilarious, your mother was a commoner, wasn’t she?”

“You bastard!”

The Southern Empire’s Emperor, with veins bulging as he glared, charged at me, but he was almost laughable.

Born as the lowest servant’s child in the palace, he had contracted with the devil, and his divinity had manifested. He dramatically became the Crown Prince.

It was no secret that he had killed many people to hide his origins.

Was that why he had become so obsessed with noble Euseniel?

Ugh, this is disgusting.

No matter the reason, anyone who loves Euseniel must die.

This fight lasted for several weeks.

“Your Majesty, it seems you need a rest.”

“I’m fine.”

Leaving aside the situation of the war, the fact that Euseniel was not by my side made me uneasy.

“It seems difficult to bypass Duchy Flora and strike at the Southern Empire. They’ve shown strong resistance to clearing the way.”

“I expected as much, so it’s not surprising. Since most of the Southern Empire’s army is gathered here, it would be quicker to crush them first.”

Panet bowed deeply, looking apologetic.
