I made it here.

Before I could relax, I ripped the hem of my dress and scattered it around. I was hoping to confuse any tracking dogs, in case they were brought in.

I even used one of my shoes as bait to mislead the enemy, then walked barefoot on the island.

The thick grass cut my feet, but I wrapped them with my dress to prevent the smell of blood from giving away my position. If the enemy picked up the scent, it could be troublesome.

“Which way is up?”

The island was quite large, and I had no idea where I was. My plan was to climb to the top to get a better view of the surroundings.

I wished I could use teleportation, but the magic that had been suppressed by the shackles was now swirling around inside me like a dam that had burst.

Breaking the shackles meant that the magic I could immediately use was all exhausted, including teleportation.

I was now in a state where I couldn’t use magic until the flow of my mana stabilized. Until then, I would have to rely solely on my physical abilities to handle the situation.

“Let’s head up first.”

I said aloud to motivate myself. As I kept repeating my goal in my mind while climbing, the sun set.

“Hoo, hoo.”

I had forgotten that even though the Northern Empire was warm, it was still the Northern Empire. When I first arrived here, it felt like spring, but as the sun set, the temperature quickly dropped.

Thankfully, being half-elf, I didn’t mind the cold.

With my mana circulation still unstable, my physical strength began to wane quickly. I had no choice but to sit down between the trees to rest. To stabilize my mana, I meditated, enduring the weight of my eyelids.

Owoooo.

As I tried to close my eyes for a moment, I heard the sound of dogs barking in the distance.

“Damn it.”

Had he not used a wizard? It would have been better if a wizard was after me.

Typically, wizards use their magic to track targets, but I’ve always been good at controlling my mana, and most importantly, being part elf means I have a magical affinity with nature itself.

So, tracking an elf in a place like this should be difficult.

The problem was the dogs chasing me by scent.

I took a brief moment to calm myself and felt a little better. I still couldn’t use high-level magic, which consumes a lot of mana, but I could manage a bit of magic now.

I used the small amount of mana I had to sense the area. With no sign of anyone nearby, I stood up.

“Heave-ho.”

This island is quite large.

The island I was on was one of two in the Sen river, situated between the North and South Empires. The island closer to the South Empire was used by them as a base, and I had suspected this island was also a military encampment.

So, I expected a chase, but it seemed to be going relatively well.

The island was a mountain.

Since I needed to keep moving to avoid being tracked, I decided to head upward, hoping to spot the edge of the Prete Castle. If I could see the castle, I could head in that direction.

Once my mana was fully restored, escaping would be quick. I just needed to hold on a little longer.

I pressed my wrist firmly, fearing I might fall asleep.

“Ugh.”

The burned part rubbed against the fabric, causing a sharp cry of pain. Thanks to that, the sleep that was creeping up on me quickly vanished.

However, my exhausted body moved on its own. How long has it been since I felt my body wobble with fatigue?

Tess.

My Tess.

I kept muttering his name as I dragged my stiff legs and moved forward.

The problem was that the island was much larger than expected, and the path upwards was nowhere to be found.

I followed a downward slope and soon began to see a lit area in the distance, where someone had deliberately lit a fire. I immediately lowered my body.

“Stay alert!”

It was a military base. About ten soldiers in white armor were transporting something.

“Careful, careful!”

The large oval-shaped object looked incredibly familiar. As I carefully observed the ancient language written on the edges, a few soldiers brought in military dogs.

“Woof!”

“Woof, woof!”

Hearing the loud barking of the dogs, the officer seemed confused, and I backed away, trying my best to memorize the magical energy of the area.

I tiptoed, trying not to leave a trace.

“Woof! Wooff!”

The barking of the dogs grew louder, and at the order to check the surroundings, I used teleportation.

Splash.

The sound of water made me jump. I quickly looked down and saw that my legs were submerged in water. I must have ended up somewhere random, as I hadn’t set a destination.

Still, I was lucky it wasn’t worse.

“That way!”

“Search the opposite side!”

“It’s just one woman!”

I immediately recognized where I was from the shouts and barking dogs. I forced myself to stand up despite my trembling body.

“Haah, haah.”

I sent one of my shoes and some of the dress fabric floating in the river.

Please, let them be fooled. At least give me some time.

Even in this situation, the calmly flowing river was vast and dignified, as if human conflicts had no effect on it.

The pursuers were getting closer, and though I tried to use the river as a barrier, there was no large body of water near where I needed to go, making it impossible.

I only had one option left.

As I tried to use magic again, mana flowed back in the opposite direction, and I coughed up a mouthful of blood. The pain felt like all the tendons in my body were snapping, and I nearly lost consciousness.

But then, something within me stirred and gripped me tightly.

– Euseniel.

It felt sweet and familiar, almost like Tess’s scent.

Now that I was in this situation, I could clearly feel its presence. It was Tess’s mana.

I spat the blood from my mouth.

“The place I want to go.”

It was difficult to visualize an unfamiliar place, so instead of thinking of a location, I focused on the person I wanted to see.

Tess, I want to be by your side.

With the sound of wind brushing past me, I moved somewhere.

Whoosh, the background of my surroundings changed as my vision shifted.
