While the dragon and I exchanged casual greetings, the green dragon reverted to its human form. Remarkably, his torn clothes seemed to have repaired themselves.

Tess looked at Ber, the dark magic still cloaking him like armor.

“What’s this now?”

His tone was languid, ill-fitting for the tense situation.

“An interruption has come… Should I just kill them both?”

Black smoke swirled around Tess’s sword that seemed to have been crafted from shadows.

“That one!”

Hills, the dragon, got angry, but Ber extended an arm to halt him.

“Why are you stopping me!”

“Why are you trying to harm innocent lives? You didn’t even properly listen to why they entered your territory before attempting to kill them.”

The mountain’s master avoided Ber’s gaze.

“I’ve told you for decades, these mountains aren’t your creation but merely lent to you. Don’t act as if you own them.”

Wow, Ber is really angry.

“Immature people like you are the reason why there are bizarre rumors about dragons having nasty personalities.”

Ber, believing himself to be exceptionally cheerful, emphasized the part about ‘nasty personalities’.

“Had it been anyone other than this one, they’d have been dead instantly.”

“What is that, anyway? She’s just a half-elf but she won’t die.”

“She’s my disciple.”

At Ber’s declaration, Hills’s face contorted grotesquely.

“You… You’re training a disciple? Are you insane?”

Whack!

“You’re lucky you didn’t have your paw flying. I never train them weakly. In fact, you should be grateful I intervened.”

Ber smacked Hills’s head with enough force to make a light sound, though his tone was anything but pleasant.

“You, I’ll be reporting today’s incident to the elders.”

“Bernaldi!”

“If you create any more trouble here, and I’ll drag you away myself.”

It seemed Ber had greater power, as the dragon fell silent.

Meanwhile, Tess’s murderous intent hadn’t eased, and I eventually tapped him lightly.

“Shh, Tess. You can sheathe your sword now.”

“The enemy is in front?”

“No, not an enemy. That’s my swordsmanship teacher. The, pers, no, dragon, who helped me back in Baren.”

“Ah, the rascal who was attached to Euseniel…”

Tess’s aura of hostility remained, seemingly out of sorts.

“Hey, Euel, looks like your guy is about to throw a fit. Do something.”

Ber must have sensed the tension too and pointed towards Tess while issuing a caution.

“Tess.”

Having finally found an ally, it was best not to start another fight, so I hugged my lover. It was a bit embarrassing, but physical contact always worked wonders.

“Euseniel…?”

As expected, Tess blinked slowly as if awakening from hypnosis. His cheeks were flushing with color.

“Let’s put the sword down, Tess.”

“Okay.”

Tess compliantly put away his sword and intertwined his fingers with mine as I attempted to pull away.

“Is that guy your childhood friend?”

“Yes.”

“Did you talk about me to him?”

Tess leaned his head against mine, his hair softly tickling my forehead.

“Yes, she did a lot. So much that her lips turned swollen—”

“—When did I ever?”

“—Every day you did. ‘I have a friend in the capital, and he, you know—’ Who was that again?”

I couldn’t bring myself to talk about Tess in front of my parents, so I often confided in Ber, but now I became the joke.

Tess’s surprised look at me made my face heat up.

Well, letting Tess know I had liked him from the past—though differently from now—was comforting, but my ears still burned. It felt like a deeply buried secret had been exposed.

As I was mortified by my past reliance on Ber, he casually added.

“I heard you visited the fairy realm. Glad you made it back safely, Euel.”

“Thank you.”

I sincerely thanked the always friendly dragon.

“Right. But, you know, you didn’t seem surprised that I’m a dragon.”

“Ber gave away so many hints, it would’ve been weirder not to notice.”

“Fair enough.”

The dragon was easily convinced and promised to send us back.

“I’ll apologize on behalf of this rude one here. I’ll send you outside the barrier, and you can be on your way.”

“I have something to ask, Ber.”

Amidst our encounter, a question I’d long harbored surfaced.

“What is it?”

You know why I’m considered my parents’ precious child, don’t you?

Since returning here, I’ve been curious. The story that even the Chancellor knew about me. But, despite my questions, the information seemed as if it didn’t exist in the world. Like information about devil that I only knew because someone gave it to me

Given my parents’ secrecy, it surely wasn’t anything pleasant.

The question I’d long pondered approached the tip of my tongue, but Tess was behind me. I didn’t want to reveal ‘some truth’ to him, unpredictable as he was, without any preparation.

Swallowing my disappointment, I decided to take a detour.

“Where is Calisis? How can I meet him?”

“You! How dare you casually use Lord Calisis’ name!”

As the dragon fumed, Ber extended an arm in restraint and replied with a calm tone.

“I don’t know where he is. Even if I did, I couldn’t tell you. But if I happen to meet him, I’ll pass on your regards.”

“Alright.”

“Anything else?”

“Why haven’t you visited Alin as you said you would? I even prepared a guest room.”

We had exchanged letters, but seeing him in person would be much more pleasing. Of course, my eagerness wasn’t solely for a reunion. I had a purpose.

“Really? It must be the finest room, then?”

“Of course.”

“I’ll come, then. Wait for me.”
