Given the situation, I couldn’t confidently say I was coming to the palace, so I mentioned going to the Concium, which was a half-truth. I was rationalizing to myself that it wasn’t a lie since I would indeed go to the Concium.
Intentionally arriving at the palace around the end of the assembly time, Tess wasted no time revealing himself as soon as I sat in the chair.
“Euseniel.”
Tess, calling my name, seemed very excited.
As his black eyes met what was my lap, his excited breath disappeared without a trace.
“Eu-Euseniel.”
“I’m throwing it away.”
“Euseniel! Just a moment!”
Tess, who snatched the dress away from me as if stealing it, urgently shouted.
“I was going to mend it for you.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
Where did he come up with such unbelievable lies?
“I don’t need it mended, give it to me.”
“If you’re just going to throw it away, can’t you give it to me?”
“Why are you so attached to a torn dress anyway?”
“Because Euseniel used to wear it…”
It was more bewildering than the fact that he had a contract with the devil. As I gave him an incredulous look, Tess’s eye corners twitched.
“But Euseniel, I have nothing of you…”
He murmured sadly as he sat at my feet, his small head resting on my lap.
“I’ve thought about you a lot over the past three years. Your appearance, scent, voice—everything. But there’s nothing left of you for me, so it’s been terribly lonely.”
What Tess gave me filled me up and still remained.
His only heart, the sword infused with magic, the entry pass to the Restricted Area, my favorite flower…
In contrast, I was negligent with Tess, never giving him anything. Saying I don’t even know when I will leave. Maybe I supported his strange hobby.
“Throw away this dress. Later…”
I pondered because nothing appropriate came to mind. What do people usually give to their lovers?
“Um, maybe I could learn something like embroidery and make you something properly.”
“Really?”
Tess quickly raised his head with a blush on his cheeks.
“Really, Euseniel?”
“Yes.”
“That’s exciting.”
Tess looked genuinely happy as he buried his face in my lap. I didn’t mention the fact that learning embroidery would probably take about a century. I never had a talent for using needles, so I needed to find something else.
As I gently stroked his black hair, Tess shivered and made a faint moaning sound.
“Have you eaten breakfast?”
“Yes. I’ll have lunch too. Euseniel, are you going to eat before you go?”
“No.”
“Why?”
Tess stood up abruptly and widened his eyes.
“Didn’t you come to be with me?”
He soon made his eyes crescent-shaped.
“Eat lunch first, Euseniel. I’ll tell the chef to make your favorite cake. Would you prefer a tart or eclair?”
I looked into the eyes of the man who was bowing and approaching me seductively. But I shook my head.
“Tess, I can’t come often.”
“Euseniel.”
As he held my hand, Tess bit the tips of my fingers. He licked the knuckles of my fingers with a moist tongue, occasionally releasing a soft sigh at the tingling sensation.
To avoid showing any hesitation, I clenched my other hand into a fist. Tess, already aware of it, chuckled softly.
“Why can’t you come?”
“Well, it’s because my parents got upset because I was upset.”
“No wonder…”
Tess seemed to understand, muttering while continuing to nibble on my fingers.
From the thumb, slowly, one by one. Chewing down from the tip of the finger. Each time my finger disappeared into his mouth, a shiver ran down my spine.
The pleasure I felt earlier seemed to surge back, making my toes curl.
“The Duke glared at me like he was going to kill me. He considered me a rival, but the murderous intent he showed me in the morning was so unexpected that it surprised me.”
I shouldn’t mention that Father tried to cut your throat.
“I have to endure it because I was the one who did wrong.”
Surprisingly, Tess withdrew obediently. However, he continued licking my fingers.
“But Euseniel likes it, it’s sad.”
“Do I like it?”
“The corners of your mouth are up.”
His smooth fingers tapped my mouth.
Affection for Tess, guilt, regret, and anger at the humiliation our family received were all mixed up. Regardless of keeping Tess’s secret, it was quite amusing to see him troubled.
“I’m still not over it.”
Tess’s eyebrows twitched, then relaxed.
Of course, I haven’t always done the right thing, so I should stop teasing Tess.
“What are you doing now, Euseniel?”
“I’m going to the Concium?”
“Going to the Concium? Are you going to meet that damn scholar?”
“That damn scholar is a Senior Wizard.”
“I’m stronger than that. I use magic better. I’m smarter.”
Tess began to create a kiss mark on his arm in frustration.
“Tess!”
He stopped after creating a line of bruises along my arm. Then he looked me in the eyes.
“Euseniel, would you like me to rot inside? Huh?”
“What did I do?”
“If you meet other guys, do you think I’ll be fine? How many guys have there been since childhood…”
Counting on his fingers, Tess let out a deep sigh.
“Do you think I didn’t know you were hanging out with that suspicious green-haired man in Varen?”
Instead of answering, I stretched out my arms and Tess tilted his head.
“Lift me up.”
In an instant, he blushed and put his hands under my arms, lifting me.
“Euseniel, you won’t let me get angry, will you?”
Despite that, he whispered, ‘Come often because I’m lonely’ and kept brushing his lips against my nose.
Thinking about the family that had waited for me without sleeping at dawn, my heart ached again.
The fact that Tess was alone weighed heavily on me.
