It’s a color I’ve never seen before.

The golden fragments floating in Euseniel’s eyes resembled the color of sunlight.

“Your Majesty?”

“Ah, speak.”

Euseniel’s figure disappeared, and I turned my steps towards the palace. The Chancellor followed, starting the report on state affairs.

“The monsters are running rampant beyond our control.”

“Request priests for support from the temples, including holy water. Make it clear that no refusal will be accepted. After that, organize a reinforcement unit. Are the Southern Empire’s troops gathering at the border?”

“Yes.”

The Chancellor wasn’t surprised by my reaction.

“We can’t predict how they’ll act. Keep the forces needed to deal with monsters to a minimum and prepare for the movements of the Southern Empire’s army. Recruit as many forces as the temples can provide.”

If necessary, they will seek assistance from the main temple of the Southern Empire on their own. In doing so, we’ll be using the resources of the Southern Empire while expelling the monsters—a win-win situation.

Although it’s not always the case, those who worship Lux in the North Empire love their country. Surprisingly, even when the emperor made a pact with the devil, they did not side with the Southern Empire.

“Next.”

“And…”

The Chancellor’s word continued, and the chief attendant also appeared, greeting me.

“Well then, Your Majesty, how would you like to proceed with today’s assembly?”

“I’ll attend, so be prepared accordingly.”

I stamped the urgent documents and dismissed the Chancellor. The chief attendant left the room for a while, saying he would prepare for breakfast. Euseniel asked him to make sure I have breakfast on his way back.

Cute Euseniel.

Alone in the monochrome room, I felt an intense loneliness.

The warmth that was just holding me has vanished like an illusion.

I buried my face in the clothes that Euseniel had forgotten, and a fragrant scent wafted up. The chill that covered my body disappeared.

Tattered parts of the clothing where I ripped it was visible. At that moment, it seemed like I had lost most of my composure, but I remember that she comforted me.

Although the unstable state subsided, in the distance, the monsters seemed to be escalating. It was the kind of situation I couldn’t handle.

They would continue destruction and slaughter until they die. And they would keep increasing their numbers.

If they increased further here, it would be troublesome.

Now that I’ve revealed all the secrets to Euseniel, there’s no need to worry about being hated.

“Euseniel….”

I picked up the torn dress and underwear. Would I be scolded if I kept them?

The dress might be okay. I wanted to keep the underwear, but fearing Euseniel’s reaction, I decided to throw them away. However, I licked them once in regret.

As soon as I threw the small piece of cloth into the fireplace, I regretted it.

“I shouldn’t have thrown it away.”

I must keep the dress. As long as Euseniel doesn’t find out, it should be fine, right?

I’ll ask Euseniel for something better later. Something that everyone can see and understand that we have a special relationship.

Or maybe it would be nice if Euseniel spends the night here and changes into different clothes the next day. Then I could acquire the dress that still bears Euseniel’s traces.

Soon, the chief attendant knocked and asked if I was ready.

“I’ll be out soon.”

I neatly folded Euseniel’s clothes and placed them in the wardrobe, then hurriedly left the room.

This was my mistake.

* * *

“Tess, this rascal.”

I returned to the palace out of concern, as the dress that I had left behind came to mind. Since it wasn’t in the room, I asked the chief attendant, but he claimed not to know.

Just to be sure, I opened the wardrobe with the peculiar collection, and as expected, there was the dress. My childhood friend always had some strange aspects, but doing something beyond imagination when he had grown up?

I decided to sit in the chair until the owner of the room returned.

“I hope Father is okay.”

Upon seeing the changed clothes, Father clutched his chest and collapsed. It wasn’t a metaphor.

If a man and a woman disappeared from the party hall and reappeared with only the woman’s clothes changed, it meant the two had engaged in an intimate act.

In wealthy households, it used to be a common practice to have spare clothes in the room, but these days such families are rare. Nevertheless, Father foamed at the mouth.

As there were too many things happening to say nothing had happened, I tried to cover up the situation with silence.

Father, instead of crying, tried to grab a sword and go to the palace. Only when I say nothing happened did he calm down. Then a messenger sent by the Chancellor arrived, urging him to come to the palace, and Father skipped breakfast for some reason.

“Euel, Father is against your marriage after all!”

He left a tearful word mixed with a whimper.

“I’m against it too.”

Gael added, then went to the academy.

Mother seemed to be smiling but shook her head with a non-smiling expression.

“Mom is also against it, Euel. Leaving aside everything else, I can’t send you to the one who made you cry.”

There was an attempt to explain that there was a misunderstanding, but Mother struck first before I could speak.

“Didn’t Euel say that you won’t listen to your parents one last time? So, this time, will you listen?”

“Well, Mother.”

“Oh, Euel. If you keep saying no, this mother will be cursed.”

Suddenly, Mother pretended to cover her face with both hands and shed tears. It was hard to resist when it was my own mother, even if it was a threat.

She, who used to allow anything I did, has changed.

“…Yes.”

For now, I had to agree.

Whether it was about Tess having a contract with the devil, or the fact that he could see souls in his eyes, it might just be an extension of something unusual, just like how I was reincarnated. But for other people, it wasn’t highly likely.

Of course, I wouldn’t reveal these secrets, but at least it seemed that Mother was aware of Tess having a contract with the devil. Perhaps Father might know as well.
