I Don't Need the Grand Duke's Regret - Chapter 61
Nasir spoke with a kind tone.
“If there hadn’t been any issues in the grain warehouse, he wouldn’t have come personally to explain. The Master values Lady Armilla a lot.”
“Yes.”
Armilla responded indifferently. She didn’t find much excitement in the obvious words praising the Master.
Ricardo doesn’t value Armilla. He neither likes nor loves her. His obsession with her is simply due to his stubbornness. She dared to defy the will of the Grand Duke, and that irked him, so he refused to let her go.
Armilla sighed lightly
“Have a safe journey. And… thank you. Take care.”
Nasir tilted his head to Armilla’s farewell. At the moment when there was a lingering aftertaste to the farewell, he was about to ask Armilla a question.
“Nasir, have you been here all this time?”
Suddenly, a man flung the door open and entered. The gazes of Nasir and Armilla simultaneously turned to him. Ezio, who caught their attention, interrupted the conversation and raised his chin then bluntly spoke.
“Adalberto is requesting knights to be sent. You have to check before if they can leave tomorrow or not.”
“I was planning to leave soon.”
Nasir nodded to Armilla and left the room.
After Nasir left, Ezio closed the door and looked at Armilla. Armilla raised her head, amused that he didn’t follow Nasir.
“Why aren’t you going with him?”
“Because of a certain someone, I was ordered to stay on probation. I heard complaints from the Master because I couldn’t keep things in order properly.”
Ezio spoke gruffly and wrinkled his face.
“The more I think about it, the more annoying it gets. If you’re going to run away, either succeed or don’t. It’s irritating to act indecisively. It’s not even worth getting put on probation for.”
“Wasn’t the Knight Commander hoping for my death?”
“I want you out of here.”
Ezio clicked his tongue and added, “Looks like you’ll be kicked out soon, though.”
Dragging a chair to the bedside, Ezio sat down.
“You seem like a poisonous woman. Stabbing your own throat?”
Ezio’s gaze shifted towards the bandage wrapped around Armilla’s neck. Armilla looked at him with a calm face.
“Given the one who handed me the dagger, I don’t think you should be saying that.”
“You’re really!”
Ezio stood up abruptly, raising his voice. Then, he ruffled his short hair and sighed as if feeling stifled.
Ezio disliked Armilla. He thought a cunning woman like a fox would try to elevate her status by capturing the Master’s heart. However, Armilla escaped from the mansion on her own. She even rebelled against Ricardo and harmed herself.
Ezio began to realize that he had misunderstood her all along. Perhaps, Armilla really didn’t remember. She might be different from those street women. In a perplexed state of mind, Ezio took a deep breath and spoke.
“What are you going to do? Endure until the Master marries the Count’s daughter? Endure for a while longer and get a few more coins? Or maybe, are you really trying to establish yourself as the mistress?”
“What are you talking about?”
Armilla wrinkled her face at Ezio’s rapid-fire questions. She couldn’t understand what he was talking about at all.
“Marriage to the Count’s daughter?”
“There were rumors that the Master would marry the daughter of Count Adalberto as soon as he returned from the imperial palace. Didn’t you know? Well, maybe you couldn’t have known. Stuck here as you are.”
Armilla quietly brushed off Ezio’s muttered words and was silently shocked.
‘Marriage?’
Armilla remembered Ricardo’s words at the first night. He said he would use Armilla to avoid marriage with the Count’s daughter.
But now, he was really marrying the Count’s daughter.
If Ricardo marries the Count’s daughter, Armilla will truly become a mistress. Her child will become an illegitimate child.
It was not enough to be refused by its father. The realization of her situation drained the strength from her body. Suddenly, her stomach felt throbbing. It felt as if the child knew its fate and was grieving.
“Uht…”
Armilla averted her gaze and hunched over. Cold sweat broke out, and she felt short of breath.
“Ah, haa, huht…!”
“Hey, what’s wrong all of a sudden?”
Armilla, feeling her lower abdomen tensing up, gasped and looked up at Ezio. He was flustered, and she reached out a frail hand towards him.
“Help me.”
“Alright. I’ll call the doctor. Damn it, don’t collapse on me!”
“Don’t go.”
Armilla grabbed Ezio’s clothes as he tried to leave the room. She stopped him and pleaded earnestly.
“Let me leave from here. Help me escape, away from His Grace’s eyes.”
“Why should I do that?”
“The Knight Commander hates me. He probably wishes I’d disappear.”
Faced with Armilla’s request, Ezio responded with silence. She slowly got up and continued speaking.
“I won’t come back again. I won’t even breathe near Renato….”
“You’ll get caught again.”
Ezio replied indifferently. He casually ruffled his short hair, then continued in a gruff tone.
“The Master never lets go of what he sets his sights on. Last time, he couldn’t catch the leader beast because he was too concerned about you.”
Eying Armilla with displeasure, Ezio waved his hand dismissively.
“Anyway, you’ll definitely get caught. Seriously, where would a penniless person like you go? Even if you manage to escape, you’ll end up starving to death.”
Ezio pointed at Armilla’s slender wrist.
“If you sell that bracelet, you might survive for about a year or so.”
