Chapter 49.2
Claude had assured her he wouldn’t ask her to do anything ‘strange,’ and she didn’t actually think he would. Still, the idea of going to a man’s bedroom so late at night felt undeniably odd.
‘No, this is part of the treatment.’
April adjusted her mindset. Thinking of it simply as treating someone with insomnia made her feel a bit more at ease. However, the moment she entered the bedroom and saw Claude, her composure vanished.
“Duke, your clothes…!”
As soon as she saw him, she shut her eyes tightly and blurted out.
He was dressed in a light shirt and pants, but his shirt was halfway unbuttoned. Through the open fabric, she could see his firm chest, and beneath that, though she only caught a glimpse, were the well-defined abs she’d only ever heard of, chocolate abs…
‘No, wait, this isn’t right!’
April tried to shake off the vivid images now floating in her mind.
Although it was only partially visible, it was her first time seeing a man’s bare torso, and she couldn’t help but feel flustered. She not only closed her eyes but also covered her face with both hands.
Claude chuckled softly as he finished buttoning up his shirt.
“You can come over now.”
Peeking at him through her fingers, she could still see his collarbone.
“Please button it all the way up.”
“It’s uncomfortable.”
“But still…”
“Lily, why don’t you just come over here?”
“Yes.”
April walked over, stiff and awkward, like a creaky machine that hadn’t been properly oiled. Claude lay back with his hands clasped behind his head, one leg casually crossed over the other.
Trying not to look at his exposed skin, she perched on the edge of the bed.
“I’ll need your hand.”
“Oh, here.”
April muttered as she took his left hand.
“And… could you close your eyes?”
He complied obediently, like a gentle lamb. April closed her eyes as well and began channeling her mana into him, just as they had practiced earlier.
At first, Claude’s mana resisted, pushing hers away, but soon it calmed down.
“Does this feel strange at all?”
Claude, still with his eyes closed, replied.
“Not at all.”
“That’s odd. I felt so dizzy and everything.”
“Are you okay now?”
“Yes.”
April wiped the beads of sweat from her forehead and muttered.
“I’ll work hard to learn magic so I can cast spells on my own.”
“You can take your time.”
“Pardon?”
“Well, this isn’t so bad either.”
Claude narrowed his eyes and glanced at the hand April was holding before closing his eyes again.
“That…”
‘…Does he mean that holding hands with me isn’t so bad?’
April swallowed back the words that almost escaped.
She wasn’t sure how much time had passed, but Claude’s once uneven breaths had grown calm. When she peeked at him with one eye, she noticed that the usual slight frown on his face had softened.
“Duke, are you asleep?”
There was no response.
‘Is he actually asleep?’
April waved a hand in front of his closed eyes. Claude, who was normally sensitive to even the slightest movement, showed no reaction.
His breathing was steady. He was truly asleep.
She looked at him a moment longer before standing up.
“Well then, sleep well.”
And with that, she quickly slipped out of his room as if she were fleeing.
8. Cafe, Lilies of April.
Asher’s birthday party took the capital’s social scene by storm.
Everyone, whether they attended the party or not, gathered to talk about Asher. In no time, the child had become the star of the capital’s social circles.
A few days later…
“Miss April!”
Sophia approached April excitedly, waving that day’s newspaper in her hand.
“What’s going on?”
“Look at this!”
Sophia spread the newspaper open in front of her, revealing a large image of Asher Winterville on the front page. April smiled happily as she looked at the large picture of the child on the cover.
‘The Successful Debut of the Winterville Heir,’ huh? I like the headline. I should save this.
However, before she could finish reading, Sophia flipped to the next page. April’s smile faltered as she took in the second page, surprised for a different reason.
“W-What is this?”
“What do you mean, ‘What is it?’ Our café is getting popular!”
On the second page of the newspaper, there was an article titled ‘Lilies of April: A Successful Opening with Dalgona Latte?’
The article went on to describe how the soon-to-open café, backed by the Winterville family’s investment, had drawn attention at Asher’s recent birthday party by introducing the unique “Dalgona Latte.” It even mentioned the endless praise from those who had tried it.
From the article alone, it was practically a glowing review.
Sophia grinned widely as she spoke.
“And on top of that, the cafe’s name is ‘Lilies of April’! It’s so romantic!”
April clutched her head.
“Isn’t it kind of tacky? Or childish?”
