Chapter 48.2
“Why not? If someone blocked the mana intentionally, shouldn’t it be possible to unblock it too?”
“It’s not that simple… I could do it, but I don’t know what side effects there might be if I force it.”
April caught the subtle implication in his words and responded.
“Wait a moment. If forcing the unblock could cause side effects, wouldn’t blocking it also potentially cause side effects?”
The wizard hesitated, glancing at Claude before finally answering, prompted by April’s persistence.
“There might be some side effects.”
“Oh no…”
“Was it that b*stard, Zenon Olson, who did this?”
Before she could voice her suspicions, Claude beat her to it, his anger erupting first. April chose to stay silent. While she had her doubts about Zenon, she couldn’t be entirely sure. Yet, it seemed that Claude had already pieced it together from her expression.
“Zenon Olson… tell that b*stard to come here right now.”
“No, you can’t!”
“Why not?”
“What are you going to say to him if you call him?”
“I’ll ask him if he dared to lay a hand on my employee.”
“That’s exactly why we can’t do that!”
April gestured animatedly as she tried to explain to Claude, who was clearly displeased.
“Zenon Olson will try to exploit the Duke’s weaknesses. He probably knows that I’m of assistance to you, which is why he did this.”
Claude remained silent, waiting for her to continue.
“But if you react, Zenon Olson will think his plan is working just as he intended, right? Then we’re falling into his trap.”
“So, we should just pretend we don’t know anything?”
“Yes. We need to act as we usually do and catch him off guard.”
The wizard chimed in with agreement.
“I also think Miss April is right.”
Claude didn’t seem thrilled about the idea, but he didn’t say anything more about confronting Zenon Olson. Instead, he shifted the conversation.
“So, what kind of side effects are we talking about?”
“It varies from person to person, so it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly. Some may experience fevers, others might suffer from headaches—the symptoms can vary widely.”
“It seems the pain manifests as physical discomfort.”
“That’s generally the case.”
“How about you, Lily? Are you feeling any pain?”
April clenched her fists tightly.
“As you can see, I’m perfectly fine.”
“That’s a relief.”
“However, side effects can appear later, so we should keep an eye on it for a bit longer.”
“I see.”
“I’ll make sure to pay attention.”
Uncertain of what Claude might say next, April quickly changed the subject.
“By the way, what do we do now? If my coffee doesn’t work, won’t the Duke be unable to sleep?”
“I think we’ll need to rely on the temple’s assistance for a while.”
“That’s not an option.”
Claude objected.
“I brought April here to distance myself from the temple, and now you’re suggesting I crawl back to them?”
Though his anger wasn’t directed at her, April couldn’t help but shiver. Fearing he might turn his frustration toward her, she spoke quickly.
“Of course not! We can’t do that.”
She turned to the wizard, pleading as earnestly as she could.
“There must be a way, right? What can we do?”
“Well, first, Miss April needs to learn how to control her mana. How about taking this opportunity to officially learn magic?”
“Magic…”
“Yes. Learning healing magic would be quite useful, so this could be a great chance to learn it.”
April considered the benefits of learning magic.
‘That would definitely be a great idea.’
It would be better to have as many skills as possible when she stood on her own in the future.
“Okay. I’ll learn.”
The wizard looked to Claude for approval.
“Your Grace, may I teach Miss April?”
“Go ahead.”
“Then, let’s start lessons tomorrow.”
April raised her hand like a diligent student and asked a question.
“But what about you, Your Grace? If I’m learning healing magic, won’t you have trouble sleeping until I clear the blocked flow?”
“Oh, it’s not that there’s no solution at all.”
April’s eyes brightened, but the wizard hesitated for a moment.
“Why? What’s the matter?”
“Well…”
The wizard nervously wiped his forehead as he glanced at Claude. Only after Claude gave him a pointed look, urging him to speak, did he finally part his lips.
“Well… it requires physical contact.”
“Physical contact?”
April’s voice involuntarily rose.
‘I’ve read about this in romance novels.’
The female lead cured the male lead’s issues through skinship—naturally, the more intense the physical contact, the better the effect.
Without thinking, April crossed her arms over her chest.
“Are you saying we need to hug, kiss, and… and…”
She couldn’t bring herself to say anything more explicit, but the wizard quickly waved his hands.
“No! Just holding hands is enough.”
