I Didn't Lull You to Sleep Only for You to Be Obsessed With Me - Chapter 51

Chapter 26.2
April, who was quietly watching the two people, approached Asher.
“Asher, you need to greet her. Miss Turner is waiting for you.”
Only then did Asher loosen his stern expression and sheepishly smiled.
“I don’t know how to say hello.”
April was deceived by the angelic expression on the child’s face.
‘Well, he’s still clumsy.’
After nodding her head, she whispered in the child’s ear.
“Repeat after me. ‘Nice to meet you. As you probably know, I’m Asher’.”
To respond in a noble manner, he would have to use the phrase, ‘It’s a pleasure to meet you,’ but since he was only five years old, it seemed okay to use a more casual tone.
Asher nodded and repeated like a parrot.
“Nice to meet you. As you probably know, I’m Asher. You can stand up now.”
Only then did Hannah straighten her back. The battle between the two, unknown to April, ended in Asher’s victory. In the meanwhile, she thought as she looked at the child’s childlike expression, which was completely different from before.
‘Didn’t they say that he lived as a commoner until not so long ago?’
That attitude was undeniably aristocratic, wasn’t it? It seemed that the blood of the Winterville family couldn’t be fooled after all. Hannah thought, sitting back down.
April looked at Hannah, who stiffened, and spoke to soothe Asher.
“Asher, sister needs to talk to Mr. Turner. Would you like to go to your room for a moment?”
“I see.”
Only after Asher hurriedly ran out did April finally sit across from her. Hannah, who had breathed a sigh of relief, smoothed out her expression.
“So, why did you call me?”
“First of all, I’m curious about how Mr. Lloyd conveyed the message.”
“He said that there’s a cafe that Winterville is investing in, and they wanted me to make items needed for that cafe.”
Listening to Hannah’s words, it seemed like she had heard the message correctly. However, why was the woman in front of her coming off so harsh?
The answer to her question came quickly.
Hannah scoffed, crossing her arms defensively.
“Oh, my God. A cafe? Coffee from the Winterville family? That’s nonsense.”
“Ah…”
Now, it seemed like she finally understood.
‘It happens, aristocrats who think coffee is inferior to tea.’
The long history of tea culture compared to the relatively short history of coffee culture. Just by looking at the fact that there were espresso machines but still a limited variety of coffee menus, it could be understood how short the history of coffee was in comparison. In any culture, there tend to be people who dismiss those with a shorter history. Even among the nobility, there were those who revered tea culture and looked down upon coffee culture from time to time.
It seemed like Hannah Turner belonged to that category.
April asked with a voice tinged with disappointment.
“Do you have no intention of helping them? Even though the Duke asked you to?”
Hannah remained obstinate.
“Although I’m sponsored by the Duke, I’m not an employee of his. I can consider fulfilling the Duke’s request, but it doesn’t mean I am obligated to follow his orders.”
“….”
“So, why should I help you make coffee when I have no interest in it?”
April asked again, just in case.
“Have you ever tried coffee?”
“Yes, I have.”
“How did it taste?”
“It was bitter and not to my liking. It’s rough compared to delicate tea. I don’t understand why everyone makes such a fuss about how good coffee is.”
Coffee was delicate enough, and the slightest change in the way it was brewed could change the flavor!
While she wanted to argue, April tried to calm down.
‘I’m the one who’s going to be disappointed, so I shouldn’t be fighting.’
In her heart, she wanted to say, ‘I feel sorry for you for not realizing how wonderful coffee is.’ Nevertheless, she couldn’t be that disparaging. Coffee was ultimately a matter of personal preference. There was no right or wrong. If Hannah didn’t feel the charm of coffee, she should respect her opinion rather than accuse her of being wrong.
“It’s a bit better with milk. Have you tried a cafe latte?”
“I’ve tried it. It’s milder than an Americano, but it’s still bitter.”
“Have you tried it with sugar?”
“Goodness, do people really put syrup in it? That sounds even more terrible. I do like sweet things, but coffee with sugar… I can’t even imagine it. It’s not worth trying.”
“Mmm.”
There was nothing more to say.
‘Still, it’s a shame to let her go like this.’
The fact that Claude was so confident in recommending Hannah likely meant that she was among the best alchemists in the Empire, and April didn’t want to miss out on such a skilled alchemist.
Moreover,
‘…I want to let her know that coffee is delicious, too.’
An unnecessary pride emerged.
After a brief hesitation, April made a proposal to her.
“What if I were to make coffee for you, Miss Turner?”
“Yes?”
“What would you do if I were to make Miss Turner the coffee that suits your taste?”
Hannah thought for a moment before she responded calmly.
“Well, that’s not very likely, but if you manage to bring me coffee to my liking, I’ll gladly cooperate with the lady.”
“Great!”
April smiled brightly.
“I’ll come back soon, so look forward to it!”
